For the record, I personally believe such deletions were an abuse of the privilege, particularly since you don't, in the update to your answer, include, reference of even try to consider the essence of what was said in body of those deletions - and none of it, to my recollection, was off-topic, or had any other reason to be eradicated (if it wasn't going to be added to the answer in some form.) All you did was essentially mute a user who had legitimate opinions and concerns with your answer.

I don't know if I would consider this a general reference question — Wikipedia has generic lists of animals, not animals that end in -a, and this is definitely not something you can easily find in a dictionary.
