1:00 PM
Don't correlate "upset" with "booty shorts" but with the talking about them part.

@OrigamiRobot Oh... that makes sense I guess.

@GnomeSlice I was mostly just messing around. <_< I wasn't expecting it to asplode like this.

@Fluttershy What? Which thing.

What did I walk into

@PrivatePansy Booty shorts, apparently

1:05 PM
@BenBrocka What the hell is booty shor- actually, you know what, I don't want to know

It's pretty much what it sounds like

@PrivatePansy Booty Shorts probably nsfw
Okay, it's just after 9 AM. Time to get cracking.
Job and stuff.

@GnomeSlice Now take this lesson and apply what you've learned to every conversation ever.

@OrigamiRobot What lesson?
Wait.
Okay which part

sigh

1:08 PM
@OrigamiRobot ´\î/` Mantis seconds this sigh.

@FEichinger ಠ_ಠಠ_ಠಠ_ಠಠ_ಠಠ_ಠಠ_ಠಠ_ಠ

@GnomeSlice There's really only one part where you might have learned something here.

@GnomeSlice Someone should make a magic eye out of these.

@StrixVaria I don't know what that is.

@GnomeSlice I realize my inability to actually reply via mobile chat can be somewhat confusing, but... What's the only thing I've been talking about this morning? <_<
I could never do magic eyes. =(

1:09 PM
@GnomeSlice Stereogram? The thing where you cross your eyes and it pops out a 3d image.

@StrixVaria Oh, I know what those are. Never heard of Magic Eye though

@StrixVaria Needing to cross eyes always struck me as weird.

You just unfocus your eyes and it usually works

@GraceNote You are weird, too, so where's the problem?

I can't cross my eyes. =(

1:10 PM
Lots of people can't even perform free-fusion (which is the eye-crossing thing that those stereograms use)

@GnomeSlice You are the first person I've actually heard suggest that strategy before I mention it. Hohum.

I could always get the effect of Magic Eye puzzles, but could never tell what they actually were.

@Fluttershy Really? Look at your nose.
@GraceNote ...Really? That's how I always do it.

I don't know that I can actually cross my eyes.

@GraceNote You need to trick your eyes into lining up the image "incorrectly".

1:11 PM
@GnomeSlice It's how I always do it, too.

@GraceNote Try looking at your nose.

@GnomeSlice I'm ~90% blind in my left eye and have rather severe amblyopia. I can't do that.

I don't know why I always think of magiccardswithgooglyeyes.tumblr.com whenever someone mentions "magic eyes"

It's not so much crossing your eyes as it is looking at the image as if it's a different distance away than it actually is.

1:12 PM
@StrixVaria I just choose to lose focus. Something I could always do at any rate, after all. Seeing double randomly for the fun of it.

People who need tools or reference points to cross their eyes are weird.

@Fluttershy Oh, maybe not then. Sorry, I wasn't aware of that.

@GraceNote Seeing double randomly is crossing your eyes.

@StrixVaria Not if your eyes aren't actually crossing.

I can very much cross my eyes without needing to "look at my nose" or that pen trick thingy.

1:12 PM
@GnomeSlice No worries! I wasn't offended or anything. Just informing.

@FEichinger Yeah, me too.
Please nobody be offended by this
4

I am 100% blind in @Fluttershy's left eye.

@GraceNote Seeing double is the act of forcing yourself to look at something but not orienting your eyes for the correct distance. Crossing your eyes is doing the same exact thing, except the distance you choose is really close to your face. It's the same act, but crossing your eyes is just a more extreme version of it. Think of seeing double as just "crossing your eyes a little bit".

@OrigamiRobot Weird! I'm 100% blind in both your eyes!

@Fluttershy Implants.
The robot placed one in your right eye.

1:14 PM
@StrixVaria I always took crossing eyes to refer to the actual movement of eyes.

@GraceNote ... Hold on, what?

@Fluttershy They worked perfectly fine when I mailed them to you. No refunds.
@GnomeSlice I don't get it.

woops wrong link
@OrigamiRobot IT Crowd

@GnomeSlice I still don't get it.

@GnomeSlice 404

1:16 PM
@FEichinger Y'know, the portion in which your eyes actually point inwards.

You telling me the source doesn't explain anything.

@OrigamiRobot I'd have to explain the premise of the episode for you to get it.

@GraceNote Your eyes point inwards if you focus on something really close to your face. Crossing your eyes is just doing this without actually having something that close to your face to focus on.

@StrixVaria Better?

@GraceNote Technically speaking, your eyes are probably always crossed.
@GnomeSlice I have seen every episode.

1:17 PM
@GnomeSlice Creepy pacman with arms and legs.

Good morning, Bridge

@GnomeSlice Except the image in the stereogram has a nose.

@GraceNote I don't see one.
Are you sure?

@GnomeSlice It definitely has a nose.

1:19 PM
Something quite profound is sticking out in the middle, above what I parse as a mouth and what I parse as the eyes. I can only assume a nose, as it also sticks out farther than the other components.

Oh I see the face now. Weird, before I just saw the circle of the body. Yeah the nose is pushed in. weird.

Ooh, TF2 update.

@GnomeSlice Maybe it's a skull, not a face.

@Ullallulloo I haven't played TF2 in like a year, oh wow, I don't even have it downloaded.
Okay, maybe not quite a year, but in 3 days it will be.

1:25 PM
@OrigamiRobot I was very hit or miss before I realized that tiny animation at the start was not the full extent of the video and thus hitting play was actually pretty necessary.

@OrigamiRobot 14

Strange hats?!? What madness is this?

So I picked up a copy of MLP issue #10 and the cover gallery from the local comic book store
The cover gallery has glitter on it :D

@OrigamiRobot Fake, all of them. Who would genuinely smile at a camera?

If you want to smile at a camera, just imagine killing the person holding the camera

1:34 PM
@MartinSojka Maybe the amount they got paid was just doubled?

Not advisable for selfies

@MartinSojka Some of us who aren't perpetually grumpy to have our pictures taken? :P

@fbueckert Smiling for camera = fake smile. Smiling for something funny or from happiness is real

@3ventic What if you really like cameras?

Funny, just answering "fake" to all of them without looking gets you 10/20.

1:41 PM
@GraceNote I didn't even see the tiny animation until like halfway through at which point I started over.

@MartinSojka Really? I never would have guessed that!!

I guess they have just those 20 clips and can't vary what's shown depending on the answers.
@RonanForman Really. And I would have never set it up that way.

@MartinSojka Why would they changed the test depending on how you answer?

@BenBrocka I just say "Fuzzy Pickles", myself.

1:43 PM
@GraceNote I just think of @spugsley's reaction to any number of stupid pictures. Always good for a laugh.

@RonanForman To mess up your expectations. If all you see so far are fake smiles, even in genuine ones, display just genuine ones from that point on. This way your "chance to spot a genuine smile as such" can be more precisely determined.

@OrigamiRobot I thought about starting over but after seeing the end results, I imagine my end score would probably still be around 15-16/20.

@GnomeSlice Huh. I'll stick with my Das

@OrigamiRobot Hah

No numpad option is nice though

1:45 PM
On another topic, why is there a "Not ever" answer to Skype's "Would you like to update?" dialogue box?

@GraceNote I practically cheated because I've seen the TED where the lady talks about fake smiles.

@GnomeSlice Five years and TC still can't spell "Stack Overflow" correctly

@PrivatePansy Seems right to me. "Stack Overflow"

@PrivatePansy How was your first day?

Although in the title they wrote it as one word.

1:46 PM
@GnomeSlice That's the point.

Oh.

@OrigamiRobot Hey, knowing things is exactly how we get where we are in life. That's not cheating, that's a legitimate advantage.

@badp Still undergoing training. Apparently to pass this stage of the training you have to clock a certain number of kilometers, which means for the next three days I'll be taking a truck and literally driving it to the end of the island on the expressway, make a U-turn and go back again

@PrivatePansy I thought that was the easy part of driving trucks. Also the boring one.

It's... completely pointless. A waste of fuel and time.

1:48 PM
I mean, you are on a straight street and you just kind of press on the accelerator - or put the pedal to the metal and rely on the automatic built in speed limiter
(I dunno, truck regulations in Europe are rather strict)

@badp These trucks don't have automatic engine cutoffs. Instead you get a speed warning device which starts beeping when you go over the limit

@PrivatePansy ow.
Well at least those keep you company.

Truck driving is hard according to Top Gear

Do you also have a black box in your steering wheel recording speed, time and whatnot?

1:49 PM
@PrivatePansy Do you at least have like, deliveries or anything you could be doing so that the miles aren't completely wasted?

@badp There's also an instructor, but half the time they're either sleeping or fiddling with their phones

I get the need for training but if you have some requisite amount of kilometers to travel, might as well have something to get done in that time, no?

@badp Yes, but it's only used if there's an accident. Actually, I'm not sure if these old trucks have them

@PrivatePansy Oh, occasionally here the police checks them to make sure you aren't breaking speed limits
and that you're taking mandatory breaks

1:51 PM
@GraceNote Nope. We literally get to within two kilometers of the expressway end, get off, do a U-turn under the expressway, and go back the exact same route

Wherein badp drives a truck over 180 km, a guardrail and a couple cars.

@badp I was there when you were spamming it.

@GraceNote Because to actually drive to a camp and back will take planning and coordination and stuff, and they can't be bothered to do that

I was live blogging that, not spamming. ;P

@badp ;)
@badp I feel like you would really appreciate this:

1:52 PM
It's far easier to just take a truck, drive it down a pre-planned route and come back, doing nothing but raking up exp points for the driver
I have two more days before I level up

That was the best comic.

@PrivatePansy Oh, you actually have a fixed route you have to go? That's even dumber.

@GraceNote Yeah, and tomorrow it will be the same route again

The whole purpose of training is to get you prepped for what actual things y'need to do, yes?

95% of which is driven on an expressway
Because that's the fastest way to clock miles
In a normal 100 minute session (back when we were preparing for the test) we usually drive less than 20km. Here it's 55km
@GraceNote It's sort of useful, since we never went on expressways previously
But having to drive the exact same route over and over again is dumb

1:57 PM
It is, especially when it's that long.

@GnomeSlice easily one of the best things you've shared

@badp Isn't it amazing.
That's one of my favourite episodes.
Part 3 doesn't appear to be on youtube =[

@GnomeSlice "I didn't wanna do what I just did" - the whole episode

@BenBrocka Amazing.
Oh wait, there's part 4

@GnomeSlice lol, Jeremy Clarkson doesn't know how to use the handbrake?

1:59 PM
the hill start

We were taught that in... circuit driving lesson 3

@PrivatePansy I would have known if he's not the biggest prick ever and actually paid attention.

CC @badp above video ^

Dear me, Stop putting paperclips in your mouth. It's one of the most disgusting things you could do.

@OrigamiRobot I agree.

2:04 PM
@GnomeSlice Gotta be edited to death but still funny

@BenBrocka Oh absolutely. They obviously script a lot of it too.

How the heck did he get set on fire?

@Ullallulloo ...

@OrigamiRobot Well at least you're not shoving pennies and dollar bills in your mouth, those ARE the most disgusting things

@BenBrocka His cargo was a bale of hay at one end with an electric heater at the other
The joke was that they all had fragile cargo on board.
James had a giant wedding cake, and Richard had a car.
They obviously ruined all of them.

2:06 PM
@BenBrocka I put so many things in my mouth.
I'm like a baby or a dog.

I'm chewing on my earbud but I still think that sounds gross
well not literally chewing
Just literally

I chew on pens all the time.

@OrigamiRobot Resist the influence of @AshleyNunn. Don't eat people.

@OrigamiRobot Augh no

2:08 PM
@BenBrocka I don't loan them to people afterward.

@OrigamiRobot Ditto. I just managed to snap the clip on mine yesterday.

OF course he could have done it himself and how he's playing the "how did THAT get there" for all we know

Or I tap them on my teeth.

Pretty accurate results for me.

I don't like the chewable kind of pends anyway, I just use a couple nice ones

2:09 PM
@StrixVaria Server overloaded. What have you done?

@StrixVaria YOU OVERLOADED THE SERVER WHAT DID YOU DO

It's not my server what do you want from me?

how could this possible be considered a good idea

@StrixVaria Hush money.

Car on the bottom has no steering, car on the top has no throttle.

2:11 PM
@StrixVaria Stop overloading other peoples server obviously.

@GnomeSlice I remember that! It was great!

It gives a heatmap of where you're most likely to be from.

@BenBrocka I don't chew on them and smush up the caps or anything

@GnomeSlice Why would the car on top need throttle?

2:11 PM
@GnomeSlice What have they done

3 mins ago, by GnomeSlice

I could have sworn they put the top Australian car upside down though

'Double Decker Racing'

@StrixVaria I resent that this doesn't have a Canadian version.

@Sconibulus That's not a screencap from top gear

2:12 PM
@GnomeSlice ...oh...

@Sconibulus The video I just posted is, though

Of course, we just add, "eh?" to the end of stuff, and the heatmap would automatically be all of Canada.

@fbueckert How many different ways can you say "Eh sorry about the maple syrup"
5

@BenBrocka seerup vs sirup

@BenBrocka Surprisingly, quite a few.

2:13 PM
soary vs sarry

wait yes it is a screencap from topgear
I guess they're all rightside up.

Morning, Bridge

> " To use Annie WCG players must adjust the headset volume if possible"

@SaintWacko G'morning.

2:23 PM
I like the animated 3D HUD model.

Apparently I'm still reasonably good at tf2.
26 points in like half a match, and I pushed my team to the last point (with help from @Ullallulloo)

@StrixVaria So you're most likely from the places where more people live. Makes sense.

How do we handle questions that we can't do anything about? I'm referring to this question.

I dislike tech support questions.

@MartinSojka I am from the place with the deepest, darkest red. I imagine that if I lived in bumfuck North Dakota then bumfuck North Dakota would be red.

2:29 PM
that said, sometimes "There's nothing you can do other than upgrade your computer" is a valid answer.
Answers shouldn't determine if a question should be closed, blah blah blah, etc etc etc

@StrixVaria Hey! North Dakota is the closest state to me!

@StrixVaria Did you try it? Because that "heat map" looks suspiciously like "population distribution", and that's never a good sign.

@Sterno I don't think that's really a valid answer. And it doesn't help anyone else, either.

@MartinSojka What a shock that I happen to live in an area with a high population. Who would have thought that people live in populated areas?

@fbueckert I believe it is a completely valid answer. Some questions don't have the answer the user wants. I do pretty much agree with your second point though, which is why I don't like most tech support questions

2:30 PM
It's like you intentionally misinterpret everything.
It's ridiculous.

;_;
@BenBrocka

@Sterno Personally, I don't really like many tech support questions, either.

@BenBrocka 'aboot'

@Mana Hey newfie

@fbueckert The problem is once in a while there's one that's so common it applies to a lot of people and is truly useful, and separating the two is highly subjective

2:32 PM
@StrixVaria I would be slightly surprised if the dialect between the west and the east coast are extremely alike. As the heatmap seems to suggest.

@StrixVaria No, that's not what I mean. When doing statistical displays for non-uniformly distributed items (in this case, humans) over an area (or time, for that matter), you have to display the results in values relative to the local density, not in absolute terms. If your result "heat map" looks like the population density ... you might be doing it wrong. Just need to check that.

Hooray for downvotes, I guess!

@Arperum I'm not surprised that there's a lot of similarity. It's also not the deepest darkest red, so there are some differences too.

@Sterno Yeah, I agree with that. It's hard to tell, sometimes, whether a problem will be extremely common or not.

2:34 PM
This one, though, is, "I barely meet the system requirements for this game, but I want it to run better!". The only real answer is, "You're SOL for your current hardware, dude."

@StrixVaria But I would expect that the dialect of a place that is only half as far away would be closer to yours then the variant of a place a whole continent away.

I think I have carpal tunnel...

@StrixVaria "What is 'the City'?"

@Arperum I'd say it's more to do with the fact that people from California are more likely to associate with people from New York City than they are with people in Arkansas, due to more similar lifestyles and interests. Geographical distance barely matters anymore.

I always hate this question.

2:36 PM
@OrigamiRobot Yeah, that question is stupid.

If I say "the city" I just mean the closest city.

@StrixVaria I'm not sure how that explains the similarity to southern Florida though. On the other hand, I'm not an expert in US languages by far.

Like "in town"

@MartinSojka Tons of people from the NYC area retire to southern Florida when they get old because houses are cheaper and taxes are lower and weather is nicer.

"What do you call an easy course?"
I have no idea what this is asking

2:38 PM
@OrigamiRobot I have no fucking idea what this question meant.

@StrixVaria Really? I didn't know that. Good to know in case I ever find a relative who lived in the north-eastern US and I can't find a grave for him or her.

@OrigamiRobot Easy golf course? Easy food course?

@StrixVaria I'm trying to look at the answer to figure it out, but that just leads to more confusion.

@OrigamiRobot Yep.

Not enough context to answer the question.

2:39 PM
@fbueckert I have no idea.

@OrigamiRobot Yeah, I got nothing.

@OrigamiRobot I did the 140 question version.

@OrigamiRobot other

@StrixVaria I didn't know there was a different version

2:41 PM
I say "ant" when talking about the general, but "aint" when referring to a specific family member.

@OrigamiRobot Oh, pronunciation. Ok, it was trying to determine local slang.

@MartinSojka In any case, it tried to narrow it down to specific towns aside from the heat map, and got a bunch that are really close to me. So maybe the heat map isn't the best representation of the data, but it's still a fun experiment.

Q: Xbox 360 plays DVD without audio

Scuba KaySince a few days ago my Xbox 360 wouldn't play sound anymore. I looked on the internet and found some solutions to the problem. I should turn Display Discovery off and manually change my settings for the display. This would have solved my problem if I didn't want to watch movies on my Xbox, becau...

2:47 PM
I need to buy two tickets.

@StrixVaria Why is it called Dorb? I would have called it Dodorb or something.

@RonanForman It matches vowels that hit each other, so it's Do + orb becomes Dorb.

This one is really badass:
@RonanForman That's part of the charm of Dorb.
