Here is a helpful one . . .NOT. because it seems in this situation it is the laptops motherboard software that is engaging the throttling. forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/… Because it is a bit buggy compared to the way intel throttling occurs, and does not un-throttle as quickly, and was fixed by changing the Bios.
- -The initial problem here is that CPU %usage and even GPU %usage monitors will still be displaying 100% usage when working hard. But stepping or however throttling is done could still mean that either one of them are running at 1/4 the possible available speed. When is 100% not 100%, when it is downclocked or reduced duty cycle.

12:33 AM
Ahh, i found a marker for the win7 system, built in even. ""On closer inspection within the Windows 7 Resource Monitor the "CPU Usage" is actually near 0% with the CPU "Maximum Frequency" at around 7%! "" at the top of the processes list for the CPU section of the resource monitor. Mine doesnt read correct, but close enough.

1 hour later…
GPU-Z now (experimentally) is supporting the PerfCap for nvida gpus. Performance caps shown being in play, for voltage, temperature, and power.
@JourneymanGeek ohh noo , there really IS a skynet :-)

2:20 AM
Reject -> Custom: "very obvious review audit ;P"

@tapped-out I would skip that in reviewing hoping somone knew what it was for? What do you mean review audit? Like bump?

lol
@Psycogeek: they have fake review items to catch people who're just in it for badgefarming
2

@JourneymanGeek ohhh, somone trying to catch me reviewing badly :-)
well the next one sucks too IMO. why are editors removing thanks for the heck of it.
a little "Thanks in advance" never hurt nobody, compared to spam

lol
I'd have approved it as part of another fix
or if its a new question
/me will usually approve minor edits within an hour or two of posting

/me rejected 8 tag cleanup edits when he first unlocked that queue
xP

2:34 AM
I am just not good at reviewing at all yet. people start messing with somone elses words, and it takes me forever to see if they "changed" thier words or intent. Added code items, code changes, can be Very bad, when the answer says "you screwed up your code" and some editor fixes it??
Skip, skip skip, and hope somebody knows what these editors are doing.

the two queues i "skip" the most on are Suggested Edits and LQ
LQ is particularly difficult, i've only reviewed 61 items
compared to 664 in First Posts

105 lq, 69 late answers

@tapped-out What do you think of the "quality" of anon editors in general?

@Psycogeek 50/50, at least in the items i've reviewed
87 late answers, 190 suggested edits

@tapped-out and how many times have you wanted to put dumass in the comments :-)

2:42 AM
@Psycogeek never, almost always use canned responses

Nobody has answered me on 100% useless edits yet? Does anyone get Rep for edit? Is anyone being paid behind the scenes to edit at the SE office? Ok they get a "badge" i get that,

@Psycogeek nobody is paid to edit. You only get rep for editing if you're under 2000 total rep and suggest an edit that gets approved.

@nhinkle oh thanks, so they could be going for rep?

@Psycogeek who are "they"? Is there a particular incident you're referring to?

@nhinkle Useless edits, that change nothing usefull. Taking off the thanks, removing a users simple but unnessisary background info, other changes that do nothing for content , or readability.
and sometimes within that useless edit, are missed items in spelling and grammer.

2:52 AM
@Psycogeek there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. It's better to only do those sorts of fixes if you're also improving the content, and if you're being thorough and getting all of the issues (that you can see), not just targeting one specific issue and ignoring everything else. But if you see a post that's got a signature and bad formatting and some mispellings and maybe some rambling that's not relevant to the question, editing that post into good shape is definitely good.

"they" well its usually not the pros, it just feels like they are doing it "to Edit anything" not to assist anything.

As long as the edit makes the post better, I tend to approve it. Unless they're obviously just blasting through posts looking for one specific thing to edit (like the people who take it upon themselves to edit every single keyboard shortcut in every question to use the <kbd> formatting)

Give some people a hammer, and you got holes all the way down the walls , but the nail is still sticking out :-) that kind of editing.
@nhinkle good example.
I can example everyday , but skippig works good. Like this superuser.com/review/suggested-edits#suggested-edits/…
Adding [Bloatware] tag. Now i Hate bloatware, and the edit is fun :-) but there are people who (even) like bloatware. and what was the point anyway, when the OS is missing , that being a usable tag item for following, and for knowing.
That for me is a useless unnessisary edit, and a waste of time.

Some edits are just bad. It's OK to reject them.

3:08 AM
ok

isn't a bloatware tag a meta tag?
yay, hit 1000 suggested edit reviews

4:15 AM
hi @JourneymanGeek
just got a package from singapore...
most overpacked thing I've ever received
it was that Lamy converter
inside a small plastic bag
inside a grey PVC tube, about 2cm wide
packed with styrofoam wads, ends taped shut
inside half a metre of bubble wrap, all seams taped, including ends
inside an a3 size postage bag, wrapped, glued and taped
the tube was probably the most unusual part :P

@JourneymanGeek you live in singapore, right?

5:07 AM
yup
o0

hello
@JourneymanGeek I thought it was killed.

Hey

@Sathya: apparently not killed enough

@Notionwork sup

@Sathya Not much mate
@Doing some coding / configuration / thinking a lot lol
@Sathya Oh and just chillin' in general

5:13 AM
neat

@Sathya And drinkin' some brews
:D
How abouchu?

@Notionwork what kind?
@Notionwork being on the otherside of the world means I'm at work

@nhinkle here is an example of "putting words in another mouth" superuser.com/review/suggested-edits#suggested-edits/… Adds greatly to the post, but is slhck going to enjoy people dropping their tests into his answer. Makes a wonderful comment. But I would want slhck to be the one adding it to his post, if he thinks that is appropriate. Not a Drive-by Descision maker?

@Sathya A Dead Guy Ale and some Heineken (not my fav) that my roommate's friends abandoned before they went to a music fest.
Lol

@Psycogeek not too common for such to get rejected
@Notionwork well you seem to be having a good evening

5:23 AM
@Sathya Oh hell yes!

@Sathya ok thanks, that is what i wanted to know. Any way to get the "data" to a comment after that?

@Psycogeek nothing automated, must be a manual task
@Notionwork sweet. enjoy!

@Sathya thanks, I moved it to comment manuel. Hope that isnt worse.

@Psycogeek na, that's good. thanks

@Sathya good to know, because if that does work, I will apply it for those very specific cases.

1 hour later…
6:52 AM
Am I the only one who doesn't like it when someone says "that's not possible" for an answer? I mean, if it's something that's really not possible like reading a floppy disk with a CD-Rom drive or something (idk, all I could think of) that's one thing, but most issues that people ask about like that can be solved, albeit in a roundabout way

@ekaj Did you need a cd-device to read a floppy, I am sure given enough effort , i could get it rigged up :-) Nothing is impossible, it might be pure hell, stupid as can be, insane, and foolish, but some nutjob will do it anyway.

lol
@ekaj: sometimes its true tho

So.....
@JourneymanGeek You studied physics in school?
@Psycogeek How are ye doing?

7:07 AM
@Boris_yo I be quite fine today.

Probably did

@Psycogeek Cool.
@JourneymanGeek Hmm let's talk mathematics. Know those formulas which you got to use to find unknown? Where you need to know what each variable means and replace unknown variables with known. My question is, in school did you learn those formulas just got the sake of leaning them to pass tests or did you try to actually logically understand them too? Remembering the formulas and using them like robot to pass the tests is one thing, but logically understanding them is another.

@Psycogeek Do you play games man? Video games? Mind telling me your age?
@JourneymanGeek Yes to which?

@Boris_yo: yes to both!
or either one

7:16 AM
@Boris_yo storytime I remember "factoring" in high school. I told the teacher,I dont understand what is going on, teacher said just continue and you will get it. Nope didnt get it, I actually had to Plug data into multiple choice answers , calculate it all to find the correct answer.
About 5 years later, i was trying to do specific programming. and what did i find, I had to make up these crasy x-2 (y/2) -5 *22 kinda stuff up to do the work. That day, in application, i finnaly figured out how to reduce an algebraic expression stuff. and the point of factoring

@JourneymanGeek You know that there are people who do not understand logically but due to perseverance and persistence still reach the end?

And how does that matter to me? ;p

@Psycogeek You program in mathematics? Programming? What kind of programming is that?

"YES THERE'RE CHILDREN IN INDIA WHO HAVE NO BRAINS!"

lol

7:23 AM
@JourneymanGeek "There are many paths to reach same goal"

I'm not seeing the point of this conversation

@JourneymanGeek No not India specifically. I know people who did not understand some things but due to their perseverance graduated and became professors.

and build a new generation of people who can't think?

@Boris_yo I was attempting to talk to a video switcher thing that did wipes and fades, and blocks between 2 video sources. The original design was not good, and the programming looked easy (ha ha). I finished it , but then the device was 99% obsolete by then.

@JourneymanGeek Heh... You take it to literally man. I said some things people do not understand.
@Psycogeek What do you mean talk?
I think today's is my 5 year "No video games!" anniversary.

7:28 AM
@Boris_yo Simple basic serial communications, from an odd looking simple base computer thing , to a box that does the actual video. the programming was probably also in a basic type of programming.
My first program i made was a full video titler :-) on a vic20. Took me days to make, and literally consisted of only entering text and scrolling it all in a "filmstrip" look. because there was only 3pixels of resolution :-) it was soo simple.
Back when things were simple :-) they had mabey 45 commands you could do. not like today where there are 45 development platforms , each of which you can do 500 different commands.

@Psycogeek 3 pixels of resolution? For title of video?

@Boris_yo not a real 3 pixels. i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii552/TheBladejunker/VIC-20/… that is what it looked like

@Psycogeek 15 colors only. And I thought 256-bit is the minimum...

but we only needed 16 colors then :-)

@Psycogeek How many colors are in 256-bit?

7:45 AM
@Boris_yo I would not know, there is 16million in just 24bit. but that is just how this world arranges things :-) some alien might be able to do better.

@Psycogeek How weird is that? The more bits, the less are colors?

I dont know what your saying here? i think 256color was 8bit? if i remember right

@Psycogeek I termed it wrong then. 256 color is 8-bit color then and not 256-bit.
Let's divide 256 colors by 8 bits to find out how many there are in 1-bit?

Pluss the way that the Bit color thing is used by different things can complicate it some. because when they refer to 8or10Bit video processing, they can mean 8or10 FOR each of the channels R G n B
or it could be 8Bit luma (the brightness or grey scale) with 8Bit Chroma (the color plopped on top of the B/W luma image. Sooo same referance to how many different things can be stored in the bits used, but different ways that things were done.

@Psycogeek You seems like expert in video editing.

7:58 AM
@Boris_yo i hate editing :-) way back in time tape editing was fast, easy and uncomplicated, done with dedicated machines.

@Psycogeek Tape editing? What's that?

@Boris_yo tape to tape. very similar to recording from one audio cassette to another, and cutting out what you dont want.

@Psycogeek This was back circa....?

Then it was tape to computer to tape, which is 3 times the process, then chip to computer, which is 2x the process.
@Boris_yo when was that, lets see diansours, adam and eve, jesus, must have been 1978 ?

@Psycogeek You must be familiar with lots of techniques then.

8:04 AM
@Boris_yo not really. you know me, find the laziest fastest method that is simple and gets the job done well.

Do you offer your video services to people on fiverr.com?

@Boris_yo no, all our work started pouring in from "just working hard", but i got a big decline during economy bust.
there was a time when I would go to other states 2000mi was the max, to work. but as word got out , all the work became local. err I mean i wasnt going to waste money and time to go across the country to work.
If i started webvertising, i would keep it tight and local. So i did not even get stupid calls from thousands of miles away.

@Psycogeek Was Google AdWords available then?

@Boris_yo 1978? the web didnt exist :-) at least it being 80% advertising and fraud didnt exist.
for a long time the way to communicate with computers was BBS en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletin_board_system very simple very basic, and was clung to for a long time by people who used it.

Bob
8:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek I need to start wearing gloves when experimenting with inks.
My hands are still coloured.

8:58 AM
lol

9:28 AM
Penny Dane, a Daytona Beach Police Sergeant, resigned after she admitted posting nude pictures of herself online while on-duty, CBS affiliate WKMG reports.

Dane, who worked in law enforcement for approximately 18 years, admitted to accessing and sending sexually explicit pictures as part of an online game called "Red Light Center," the station reports.
Wow, what has this world come to that a person cant send a few nakid pictures of themsleves to an online porn site when working in a police station?

Bob
9:47 AM
@Psycogeek while on duty is the key part
when working, as you said

10:11 AM
The real question is where to find those pictures though

lol
or if you WANT to find those pictures.

Sure. Just to verify the authenticity of the report of course

10:33 AM
@Psycogeek As why did she do that? She probably wanted another job in porn industry that pays very well...

10:52 AM
@OliverSalzburg Only to verify? ;)
If client asks me why I charge him 40$ for antivirus installation and 60$ for memory module installation, what should I tell him?

@Boris_yo That he should pay or have his legs broken

Because it's my policy or because memory module installation takes 10 more minutes?

You should know why you charge what you charge

@OliverSalzburg I don't know. I just saw prices on leading PC retailer's website and charge same - 20% because I don't find it fair to charge client same price as leading PC retailer. Otherwise why would he come to me? I must have an edge somehow?

@Boris_yo you could tell em, house calls are $100, and I just knocked $100 off you bill by not charging you for the Av and the mem install.
they will be so happy for saving $100 , they wont realise you picked thier pocket :-)

11:00 AM
@Psycogeek You mean you only supposed to charge 100$ for only visit?

@Boris_yo yes housecalls gotta have a fee. You dont see doctors making housecalls, and what do they charge for 10min of effort?

Hmmm, this tablet seems like phantom. It goes back to previous screen/website for no reason.
@Psycogeek Family doctor? I thought you are supposed to visit them. But private doctors sure charge for visit.

@Boris_yo How much do you think a skilled doctor would charge to show up at your house and use a popcicle stick to your throat? Plus they will charge you $5 for the popcicle stick (tounge depressor)

@Psycogeek Private skilled doctor will charge much. But it's his profession, he's got experience and certifications. I on the other hand have what except experience?

And what Would they accomplish? will they Fix you? no Will they increase your memory? no what do they do? make you feel like sombody gives a crap :-) Dont forget to do that part, via thier plight with the viruses and thier crappy computer
And always scrawl something on a piece of paper before you go. Like take 2 antiviruses and call me in the morning
. . . Then bill them for the call in the morning

11:11 AM
@Psycogeek Not charge him as I leave but charge him next morning?

@Boris_yo Experience and certifications? For what, watching peoples bodies heal themselves? honestly what CAN they do? tell you all the latin names for your body parts.
Suggest the latest drug that some trillion doller pharmasudical corporation, pushed on them like a street dealer, that has more side effects than sniffing ether

@Psycogeek You seem to believe as though nobody needs experience and certifications. If it was so, what would happen to our world?

@Boris_yo It is happening
:-)

@Psycogeek I heard the stories where doctors get their share of medicines they push so this is great area for me.
@Psycogeek What? That people are hired without experience and certifications?

I think you should make sure you go to college and get drunk for 8 years, because that makes people think you know something :-)
@Boris_yo In america they cannot be fired anymore. which is just about as bad. Now AFTER you know they are ineffective you gotta keep paying them.

11:18 AM
@Psycogeek Certifications are what makes people think I know something. I think colleges have stereotype about getting drunk and laid. Like you go to college for chicks and fun...
@Psycogeek Doctors cannot be fired? How come? What if they get complaints from patients?

@Boris_yo Certificates pay the people who issue the certificates.

@Psycogeek Education is big business too?

@Boris_yo Yes that too, it is that bad. Hospitals can have a doc that gets malpractice lawsuit that costs the insurance company over and over again. and only when it gets really bad can they do something. Back a few decades you could fire people just because they didnt like you grabbing thier ass.
@Boris_yo No people run colleges for fun, and the goverment pours money into them because . . . . just like you said, the piece of paper is everything.

@Psycogeek Why they can't fire easily now? Is it workers union that prohibits? Some kind of workers protection law that sets monetary penalty for firing worker after he reached certain employment period?
@Psycogeek So I need "fun paper" in order to be respected?

@Boris_yo It is ramifications. See the last one a few decades ago, people were treated like dogs, slaves to work. So they progressivly "fix" that aspect of it, and the worker is treated very well. And the ramifications of it , you have to have a really damn good reason to fire someone.
That means really bad employees stay in jobs that , that might even be better for themselves if they left them.

11:30 AM
@Psycogeek Well complaints from patience should be enough to consider fire malpractician. Otherwise give freedom to someone until he abuses it.

@Boris_yo Thats it exactally. The drunk papers have greater meaning , and significance than real world experience.

Q: Can I upgrade the processor in my Pavilion G6?

fraser heatonI have a HP Pavilion G6 series laptop with an AMD A6-3400M APU and 8 GB of RAM. Is it possible to upgrade my processor to get a bit better performance? If so, how do I pick one to upgrade to?

that was fast :o
from the time i started editing to the time i finished, it got -3 and put on hold

@Psycogeek lol "drunk papers" I like that!

@Boris_yo Putting "helped mommy, daddy and sisters, neighbors and friends, to have perfect computers systems with zero problems" isnt going to work on a Resume

11:34 AM
@Psycogeek This is another reason why it is now harder than ever to be considered for position. They adhere to law and don't want to risk it with bad employees because it will be hard to get rid of them later.

owowowow
@tapped-out: thats PRETTY bad

@Psycogeek That's because experience is not type of "work experience" and more like personal experience?

greetings from Assembly Summer 2013

@Boris_yo yes, the weeding process is much longer. Most of them hire for "trial period" and Part time, so they can toss you easier. Add to that, instead of firing you, they will "cause you to quit".
@Boris_yo The certs and education are at the top of the paperwork, work experience next, and some stuff you did that doesnt fit well in a resume, is just trash. Also the interview process is a good location to find out thier skills.

'lo @Leathe

11:42 AM
@Psycogeek What do you mean "toss me easier"?

@Boris_yo An older person (assuming your not older) will benifit more from work experience.

@Leathe What's it about?

i just failed a review audit because i thought i remembered seeing a dupe of it. >_>

@Psycogeek This all seems like a game we ought to play...

@Boris_yo If they tell you your just being Tried out, a 30-90 day trial in the workplace. they can stop needing your services :-) without actually "firing" you. Plus your not going to run off to a lawyer , when you knew up front what the deal was.

11:44 AM
@tapped-out What do you lose when fail review audit?
@Psycogeek This just lets you hope you will be needed?

@Boris_yo nothing if you only fail occasionally; if it's a consistent pattern of failure i think you're locked out of the review queue for a while

@Boris_yo Game,,, yes i am trying to indicate that how the rules are set at the time, how things are percieved by people, how people see certian things, will be of assistance when trying to get a job. Even stupid "workshops" that would cover the info correctally , vrses what i am saying, have value for understanding the game.

@Psycogeek Workshops like Wal-Mart, Best Buy nd Amazon?

@Boris_yo After you get a position, the only thing left to do, is be minimally valuable to the company. You make the CEO $1 every week, and dont cause probems and whine , and work with other people. chances are good you will keep the job.
@Boris_yo Workshop, Job workshops. they are usually run by people who couldnt get a job :-) and charge to much for what they offer. But they will give you good tips for getting IN.

12:02 PM
@Psycogeek 1$ to CEO? That's the least?

What kind of salary do you expect when you make the company $4 a month? O_o

@Psycogeek These people who previously couldn't get a job are now small business owners?
@OliverSalzburg Minimum?
And I guess it's those people working at McDonald's who make CEO $1 per week?

@Boris_yo As in minimum wage?

@Boris_yo yup $1, because its all about Profit. They have a million idiots that are willing to work, that is 1Million dollers :-)

If we're talking about $1 just for the CEO himself, then that really only applies to companies with 15000+ employees I guess :P

12:08 PM
@OliverSalzburg Yes.
@OliverSalzburg There's profit for company and there's profit for CEO so if one makes CEO 1$ per week, it is safe to assume it makes more to company's budget.

@Boris_yo it's a LAN party

@Psycogeek Does that assume that all workers are lazy that do minimum for company? What if there are those who work their butts off? Don't they deserve higher pay?

@Boris_yo The people running workshops. Yea that is a joke I read, on one of the web-sites giving placement advice. A competing placement group was saying the other group "couldnt get a job" and that is why they went into business for themselves. The other person had "worked quite a few jobs" which doesnt say much for their ability to hold them either.

Is most McDonald's savings made from saving on workers?

@Boris_yo I was trying to indicate, that when the bean counters count the beans, you are very likely to keep your job, even in downsizing, if you are "profit" not loss.

12:13 PM
@Psycogeek So if McDonald's a workshop does it make it charge unreasonable prices?

Any additional work you do, may or may not be rewarding to your own self, Or gain reward from the company. I worked my butt off in stupid jobs, and they always pushed me hard into management. (I didnt want management at that time).

@Psycogeek Seems it also depends on position worker holds? If position is directly related to profits like cash registering person then he is considered one that brings most profits?
@Psycogeek That's how they wanted to reward you?

@Boris_yo The man who holds the cash. nope. while cachiers are known and trusted employees who have higher wage for experience and time, . . hmmm i would have to think on that, because good cachiers are higher up on the chain.

@Psycogeek Same with sales people compared to customer support people. It's seemed it's all about sales. The age of deceit.

@Boris_yo I dont think they cared about reward, because the money was not that much more. They just want better employees in the more difficult and more responcible positions . There are lots of people who can flip burgers, managment flips burgers cleans toilets And does the paperwork :-)

Q: Standby (Sleep) CMD

selnomeria-myopenidI wanted to know how to standby (sleep) from command prompt for Windows XP. Using this CMD command C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0 didnt work alone. The only way i have found- i make a .bat file, then insert this code: powercfg -h off start /min "" C:\WINDOW...

> i dont want external programs, just from cmd ...
just... what?

@Psycogeek That's exploitation.

@Boris_yo yes thats profit

@Psycogeek They just want people who have experience in all possible positions so they can explore them when needed.

@Bob that's a low quality dupe of another question anyway :P
25
Q: How can I put the computer to sleep from Command Prompt/Run menu?

LazerI know that almost everything on Windows, like opening any sort of application, can be done from the command prompt or from the Run menu. How can I put my computer to sleep or shut it down? What is the command for that?

12:28 PM
i'm pretty darn sure i've seen this question before, too...

Q: Access Internet on android phone by connecting it to laptop?

MohitMy latop is connected to a wired modem for internet. I want to access internet on my android phone. Can i do it by connecting my Android to laptop via usb cable and then enabling tethering.

not really enough info for an answer ;p

@Boris_yo sure, it is not like the people running chains, and large establishments are going to do it themselves. Honestly i do not think that higher-ups visited workplaces enough. I think they would observe more productivity and less whining if they got down in the dirt with the employees more often. That worked surprisingly well for Me when I hired people for a span of time.
If the suit monkey is willing to do it, then I guess I should just shuddap and do my job.

@Gowtham Free TV? It's not TV.
@Psycogeek You think higher-ups take things for granted and are more whinier people?

@Boris_yo TV like UI ;p

Bob
@tapped-out The requirement is still stupid.

12:44 PM

Which one is better ?
Radeon HD 7790 VS Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost

@Boris_yo Sales VS Techs Lets say a "electronics store that sells and repairs computers".| Many sales jobs include commision, a tech might only get a commision in the same location if a part was required, and sold (paperworked) by the tech. Locations where electronics tech was the Only thing going on, the techs were paid very well, but that was full electronics type tech, much higher skill.
If you define a tech as a computer geek who can put a grafics card in, that doesnt take 4 years on college.

@Psycogeek I guess it requires degree to qualify for full electronics type?

On the other hand, a tech that knows a Lot about what they are selling, because they know how to apply it, and all the specs, and all the faults and features. Turn that guy into a salesman , give him great confidence because he knows his stuff. he could potentially pull a much better comission than the idiot sale people.

@Psycogeek Yeah that's the problem of most sales people - lack of knowledge or potential experience with product.
Same is with car salesmen?

12:56 PM
So in Tech VS Sales, I would say, chose it yourself, if you want to deal with machines, then you can stay in the backroom , and tech. if you want to deal with people, then apply that skill in sales.
@Boris_yo I dont know. selling a car brings a lot of comission , and repairing them is usually a good hourly wage. On your feet with people, with risks, or down and dirty with the machine and guarenteed pay.
@Boris_yo Did you ever walk into the electronics store , ask the sales people about very specific technical things, and end up with them hanging thier mouth open, and You doing the sale :-0

@Boris_yo I have been dabling in electronics (just like i dabbled in programming) since I was 13 years old. I can fix many of my own things, have designed and built very simple electronics projects. What the video camera and radio and tv techs were doing in the electronics repair shop, would always be way beyond anything i could do. They had proper college cources , plus specialised manufacture training.

@Psycogeek That's why they earn more than average tech person?

@Boris_yo Yes at the repair a single component on a board level. not the replace the whole board level. That is more and more becomming a lost art. When tossing stuff is cheaper than fixing it. And Fixing it is only now done by replacing the Whole part. Like the whole daughterboard of a tv , just to fix a switch on it.

@Psycogeek And this practice of fixing things just impact environment in a bad way. Mother earth gets angrier at people.

@Boris_yo Or china find out its all being tossed, and finds jobs for thier billions of people :-)

1:25 PM
Replacing whole part and not certain component is just an easy way out driven by greed and possibly laziness.
@Psycogeek Jobs like fixing such parts by hiring people for pennies, repairing parts and selling again?

@Boris_yo more laziness across the whole chain of people. If sony provides a "board" to fix something, there is minimal support requirement, no having to sell a 50c part. it is just easy from end to end.
@Boris_yo Yes, even people recycling for themselves, without working for someone. Possibly repairing and reselling whole. or pulling components and re-using or selling them for re-use.
And of course re-cycling any tiny bits of gold or whatever precious stuff that exists.

Precious...
@Psycogeek Does that explain how I got used DeWalt adapter for cordless screwdriver on eBay? Maybe they got it broken, replaced some part and resold it on eBay?

I am also figuring that many of the small recycling operations, might not have the same protection, and enviromental care needed to make it (actually) better for mother nature youtube.com/watch?v=O3yxYYaQQy8

pretty stupid question but how can i get my reputation from 9 to 20?
;o)

i can't talk in StackOverflow chat since myt reputation is only 9

@EinsteinsGrandson Participate in communities?

in what way?
only by answering to questions?

@EinsteinsGrandson I don't know more than this but am interested to know this too. What happened to you reputation? Used it for bounties?

1:47 PM
what reputation do i have when i sign up?

@Psycogeek The downside of profession learned our degree attained is that some day it will no longer be needed. Like electronic components tech.

0 right?
Zero ...
or 100?
;o)

2:06 PM
@EinsteinsGrandson getting a good editing job approved here gets you 2 rep points. I just learned that :-)

@Psycogeek only until you get a certain amount of rep

@somequixotic so its only for 200-2000 ?

So, when I sign up I get 200?
and then I can be taken some points?
or given?
Or I get 0 at the beginning?
Why did you ask what happened to my reputation?
I think I had 0 at the begining and only acquired 9 afterwards...
It's different reputation for different sites of those 105 sites of STACK EXCHANGE , right?
So I can have 120 in SuperUser but 0 at StackOverflow?

•suggested edit is accepted: +2 (up to +1000 total per user)

@EinsteinsGrandson If you can make it to 200 rep on SU you'll get +100 everywhere else.....

2:19 PM
Shite...
;o)
I have 136 here in SuperUser
Can somebody lend me 64 for 5 days?
;o)
I will return them back
;o)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
and give 30 more as an interest
;o)

@EinsteinsGrandson so you only need 2 good answers, 3 edits, 5 good questioins, and a partrige in a pear tree and you be set

partrige in a pear tree ?

the cat is here

/me whistles innocently No, I am not banging on my keyboard randomly; that's just the "license key" of MSComDlg.CommonDialog that you put in the registry to gain access to that DLL in VBScript
it's actually an evil Microsoft incantation :P
next time my cat decides to type randomly on the keyboard, I'm going to put it in the Windows Registry and see if it gives me access to any useful things
