@user8718165 hi

@JohnRennie Hello sir! WELCOME!

@JohnRennie sir... Is pycharm good?

I've never used PyCharm, but lots of people use it for big Python projects.
If you're just writing short programs then it's probably over the top for you, though I guess it can be useful for debugging.
I believe it's free for educational use

@JohnRennie yeah sir..the community version..
@JohnRennie okay...I'll download it sir... :-)

7:16 AM
@user8718165 it's quite a complicated app. It'll take you a while to get the hang of using it.
To be honest for the sort of programs you need to write for school just using Notepad to write the program and the command line to run it is probably fine.

Hello @JohnRennie sir

@user8718165 hi

@JohnRennie Sir I downloaded python just now....I need your help installing it

@user8718165 what did you download and from where?

@JohnRennie Python 3.7.4 from here

@user8718165 this?

10:09 AM
@JohnRennie yeah sir

So it will have download a file called python-3.7.4.exe that will be in your downloads folder.
You just have to run that file.

@JohnRennie imgur.com/29Z7MS5 this one sir?
@JohnRennie 2 checkbox-es at the bottom....what's that path one?

You probably want to tick both check boxes. Adding Python to the path means you can open a command prompt and just type python to run Python.

@JohnRennie should I check it or not sir...what does it do?
@JohnRennie and if I don't then I won't be able to do that...is it sir?

To run Python you run a file called python.exe, and Windows needs to know where that file is stored.
Adding Python to the path tells Windows where the file is stored.

10:16 AM
@JohnRennie got it...so adding python to path lets windows know it?

If you don't add Python to the path you'd have to use a command like c:\python37\python.exe to run Python.
You can do this of course, but it's extra typing.

@JohnRennie got it sir....

As I recall the install consists of just clicking Next a handful of times. There's nothing else you need to change.

OK, click Close.

10:18 AM
@JohnRennie yeah sir...its done....but what's that disable path length limit?
@JohnRennie okay...

@user8718165 that should unnecessary. Just ignore it.

@JohnRennie done sir...

Now open a command prompt. Click the Start button then Windows System then Command prompt

@JohnRennie sir done it...thank you soo much sir

@user8718165 it works :-)
There are two ways you can use Python.

10:22 AM
@JohnRennie yeah sir...thank you so much for help...

One way is to run python then type in commands at the >>> prompt.
But this is really just for testing

okay sir...I'll try that in the evening sir...

The other way is to use Notepad to create a .py file with your Python program in, then run that .py file.

@JohnRennie I've to run for classes...20 mins left XD

OK. Speak to you later.

10:23 AM
@JohnRennie yeah sir...you told me :-)
@JohnRennie good bye sir...again thank you 😊
