@geoffc I think, after the raptors / starships / SHs become enough stable, a lighter hull material, maybe carbon fiber or some titanium-aluminium alloy, will be considered. Even a little empty mass reduction hugely increases the delta v capability of the craft. I think, the main reason to use steel was the cost of the prototyping.

@uhoh I'd heard of the gimmick reservations, and I think I saw an image of it once, but it wasn't anything like the sketches in that article.
It was far more fanciful. I find it very intriguing that the design in article is so conservative. It makes me feel like it was indeed a little more that just PR.
