@kimholder I quite like the cheap Dell ones that are so plentiful. I use them to destruction then move on to the next one.

2:33 AM
@geoffc truly, is there anything you don't use to destruction?

@kimholder They don't make stuff like they used to. :) I accept the frailty of the things that surround me.

2:57 AM
:]

10 hours later…
12:48 PM
I read something a while back on the KSP subreddit that I think you'll appreciate
Okay, so a liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen motor is called hydrolox
A kerosene and liquid oxygen motor is kerolox
Methane and liquid oxygen is methalox
So here's a new type of engine: smoked salmon and liquid oxygen

1:12 PM
loxlox!
lox-o-lox?

2:05 PM
hey look at that - mystery kim holder got a phone with T-Mobile, and used my email address. And so they duly sent me an email confirming her new account -- and her phone number.
i do believe i'll make a phone call in a whiile. maybe not yet, she seems a bit scattered and may not have it all organized yet.

2:24 PM
@kimholder Looking in a mirror? :)

@geoffc she also tried to change the password on my facebook account yet again. i'm assuming it's her and it's all connected. i hope so.
area code 575 - New Mexico

@kimholder Joy. Calling her to ask her to stop, might be wise.

2:46 PM
@kimholder What if she accuses you of stealing her email address, facebook account, etc?
Or... what if you are actually her and you just don't realize it?

ok. entire conversation: (ring, ring) her: hello? --me: hi, is this kim holder? --her: yes --me: hi, i'm kim holder too. you've been using my email address. kimholder-at-(etc). --her: ok, well i'll just use my other one then. thank you and have a good day (click)
true story. just actually happened.

lol "my other one"

@duzzy i'm starting to wonder
wtf - did i freak her out? really, she had nothing more to say?

By the way, have you changed any of your passwords recently?

yes, all the main ones

2:48 PM
Do you have any kind of credit monitoring or anything like that?

no. i have nothing worth monitoring :]

:P

i wonder if she was embarrassed... just seems odd... i kind of hope she keeps the same number in case i need to call her again.

3:06 PM
I would consider reporting it to the police...

Reporting what? That there's some other Kim Holder that forgets what her email address is?

i have gotten email for a different kim holder - and really, not spam - from businesses in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, and Illinois. now New Mexico

I get email from some namesake of mine all the time. Sometimes they're even interesting LOL

either she really gets around, or there are at least 2 or 3 like this

copyright your name, bill others for using it :))

3:16 PM
would be nice if one of them was at least australian or british or something a bit more interesting.

maybe you could organize a Kim Holder get-together, sounds like you're all over the place LOL

Taking the kids to this place now:
city museum north 16th street saint louis mo
(Google Maps it, look in Satellite view...)

this?

ha! awesome :)

has some cool serpent fence too
and a giant praying mantis

3:25 PM
It could be stolen identity of some kind.
Especially if they are going to use "Another email address"

@PearsonArtPhoto yeah, i did change all my passwords - but it's true, even if i knew which police department to call, what do i tell them? someone keeps trying to change my facebook password and i get her mail sometimes?
@SaintWacko - hey, did you spot the new question? go to town :D
(that james jenkins.... why didn't i think of that?)

i'm in mexico though

I know it's not much, but, say, if 10 different people report that same phone number for some kind of a potential identify theft...
Visiting, or do you live there?

i live here. 13 years. hope to move back home to canada in the next few years.

3:32 PM
Hmmm... I would still call or visit a police station, just in case it might help them with some kind of identity theft. It's up to you, of course.

@TildalWave dang - pinged the wrong person.... sloppy :P

@PearsonArtPhoto That's what I was thinking.

V95.43 Spacecraft collision injuring occupant
V95.43XA is a billable ICD-10-CM diagnosis code V95.43XA …… initial encounter
V95.43XD is a billable ICD-10-CM diagnosis code V95.43XD …… subsequent encounter
V95.43XS is a billable ICD-10-CM diagnosis code V95.43XS …… sequela

Especially considering the contacts from so many different states.

So, there's a diagnostic code for the first time a spacecraft collides with you, another one if the same spacecraft hits you again...
And sequela, no idea what that is.

3:34 PM
@kimholder huh? Who you callin the wrong person?

strike that, who you callin sloppy? or dang?? :))

And now I'm 12 away from the Epic badge.
I was almost 11, just 5 points shy...

@duzzy the phone number i used is in 575 area code, but that is as much as i know. it covers most of the state of new mexico. so who should i call?

Ghostbusters?

3:38 PM
why did i not see that coming...

I'm actually not sure. I guess starting with where you are would be the best place to start.
Even if she has a New Mexico number, it doesn't mean that's where she is if it's an identity theft issue.

Oh, initial encounter is the first visit to hospital after the incident, subsequent encounter is things directly related to the first encounter (Removing cast, for instance), and sequela is things tangentially related to the encounter.

but the prexix of the number can help narrow down where it is specifically.
prefix*

yes, but if she is actually an identity thief, she cunningly chose someone in mexico. trust me, there is absolutely no point in going to the mexican police with something like this.

But also, getting a credit report can help.
see if there is anything on it that you don't recognize.

3:40 PM
i'm canadian
wouldn't i have to go to a canadian agency for something like this?

International law, ahh...

and actually pay?

Umm...
I'm not really sure.

You should file a report, which I don't think costs anything anywhere, but I could be wrong...

But, those three credit companies in the US have to give people a few report every year if it's requested.

3:42 PM
If with Canada or Mexico, it's up to you.

If you have a bank account or something, check with them to see if there is a way to get a credit report.

you know, she could have been at work, or in a place where the conversation would be awkward. perhaps i'll try calling her again this evening.

I bet there is a SE site for stuff like this.
There you go! Use that.

3:45 PM
I bet the finance one might be able to help with credit reports, etc...

That's where I would try.
So far you have 3 countries involved, US, Canada, and Mexico.

@PearsonArtPhoto ooo, that's a good one

What a mess...

actually, t-mobile sent her account activation email to me.

Have you ever used t-mobile before?

3:46 PM
So she had your name and email address.

i can go in, set up her MyT-mobile account, and track all her phone usage

I don't think that's a good idea.

Agreed.

no, but what i mean is, i don't think she did this on purpose

I think you are probably right, but there's still something a bit odd to it.

3:47 PM
that would not be helpful to an identity thief

Well, not every identity theft is a perfectly organized mastermind of their craft.
Mistakes happen.
And it's certainly worth looking into.

If I had sequence of events, I would at least talk to a police station. It might not be much, but it would be something...

yeah... jeez, i hate things like this

Definitely get a credit report.
This isn't the type of thing that a single person filing would cause any suspicion.
Only if they get multiple people with similar reports will it mean anything.

ok... now i must both thank you for your advice, and grudgingly follow it. how bothersome.

3:50 PM
I understand, hopefully it turns out to just be an honest mistake.

@kimholder it's not identity theft related, there's no signs of that whatsoever

how would you distinguish that?

but it's worth checking.

And if it is, it's the best one I've ever seen, I mean they even bought a mobile plan and had a woman answer the number as Kim Holder?

Well, she didn't answer as that, she was asked.

3:57 PM
OK, that's easy to check
call again, ask for Janis Joplin

but she could probably remember the name she used to open an account.

actually, my credit rating sucks. bad student debt. ahem.

yes, exactly, something that costs and is non-trivial to do with a few clicks

so, not the best target...

they don't need your credit score to be good, they just need it to not be theirs.
I'm not saying you should go accusing someone of something. It's just worth it to take a look at a credit report.

4:00 PM
but the other one isn't even in the same state

Yeah, that's actually what concerned me.
When my mom's identity was stolen, there was stuff bought in several states.

surely that T-Mobile is registered in the state of the billing address no?

well, i'm going to have to shelve it for now, at any rate, until after i return from the conference. getting that credit report is not a 5 minute job.
the area code covers most of the state
and this has been an occasional issue for the past 5 years

because they don't need much in the way of area codes. Nobody lives in that state.

actually, maybe i should have mentioned that
i've gotten emails for a prof at West Georgia University
from a Christian daycare in North Carolina
from a Cadillac dealership in Wisconsin

4:03 PM
The Cadillac dealership is a little worrying.

from an alumni organization for South Illinois University
and from a Volkswagen dealership in Illinois

Another dealership...

yes, but this has been over the course of a few years
also, a reference request for the West Georgia prof from a former student

It's very possible, in fact I would even say likely, that it's an honest mistake.

i specifically told the cadillac dealership it is the wrong email

4:05 PM
But, it's still worth looking into.

and the volkswagen dealership
i've put the TransUnion website in a visible spot on my browser toolbar.
it's been several years, i think i'm okay for a few more weeks. as for calling a police station in New Mexico, well, if i could narrow it down to one, i guess so.
hm. there must be a way to do that with the full number...

Yeah, the prefix will usually narrow it down

@duzzy Dunno, it just fails the principle of the Occam's razor. It's much more plausible that we're simply dealing with the smartest of Kim Holder here :D

Las Cruces, NM. Ha!
yeah - she's giving us a bit of a bad name :P

@TildalWave I agree. :P
but, a credit report won't cost anything, will only take a bit of time... and the consequences of not doing it could be big.
it's worth it just to check.

4:14 PM
Look what you did, all those John Smith's in a queue at the teller now! LOL

@duzzy actually, i have to mail in a completed request form including copy of a valid id, so it will cost a little bit.
especially if i want it to arrive in less than 2 months

@TildalWave good answer on the ICD-10 question, I marked it accepted then remembered I try not do that on new questions. So I unchecked it... I will accept an answer in couple of days.

hmmm most common given name in US according to 1990 census is actually James
speak of the devil, erm,.... hey @JamesJenkins :))
@JamesJenkins ah sure, no problem
yeah, I also tend to give them a couple of days not to discourage additional answers
some of those ICD-10 codes are rather amusing
was also shared by @MichaelT yesterday :)

i'd thought that was actually the inspiration, by some back channel

gotta go, so I'll just drop a link to Progress launch...

@TildalWave These are great

4:35 PM
@kimholder If they think there is something, they can track the phone and find out where it is and send it to the appropriate location.
I'm pretty sure it's nothing, just a little weird, but...

4:53 PM
Ah, that was a good launch
Stream seemed fairly low quality, but maybe that was just something on my end

hey @SaintWacko . i pinged you in error a while ago, i was thinking of MichaelT. my mistake, sorry.

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft captured this high-resolution enhanced color view of Charon just before closest approach on July 14, 2015. The image combines blue, red and infrared images taken by the spacecraft’s Ralph/Multispectral Visual Imaging Camera (MVIC); the colors are processed to best highlight the variation of surface properties.

@SaintWacko Nope, it's low quality from the source at Baikonur. NASA streams in 720p but that doesn't help at all if the source is low quality.

@TildalWave Ah, alright. It seemed like it was higher quality before, but that may have just been because it was a daytime launch

5:08 PM
possible yes

Oh, also, the message about the Ariane launch can probably be unpinned :P
That was a nice launch

First ariane launch I've watched

Q: Should Fuel and Propellant be merged

PearsonArtPhotoI'm trying to decide if there is any meaningful difference between fuel and propellants. They both seem to cover the same thing, namely the fuel of a spacecraft. I suppose fuel is slightly more generic, as it could include reactive mass for ion drives and the like, but I would rather see propella...

SPAM!!!
:))

5:55 PM
So if you are in favor of merging, then what does this sentence mean?
> I would still keep tags fuel and propellant separate

@PearsonArtPhoto that I'd keep but it will probably only have a couple of questions left
like those asking about fuel cells, internal combustion engines,...
and we need a better description for it
merge is a good tool to retag all of them fast without changing the order on the front page, then we retag manually back to fuel those that don't ask about reaction mass
(are there any? LOL)

Let's just leave it as fuel, I think.

6:15 PM

internal combustion engines on an alien planet. so wrong. and fuel cells - that should be 'fuel cells'
then again... methane on mars...

@kimholder why the quotes?
Fuel can be used for energy storage, how about RTGs?

um, because i couldn't be bothered to look up the syntax to make it look like a tag

I definitely wouldn't want some fuels like for RTGs to be used as reaction mass propellants. At least not in the same star system I'm currently in :P

yeah, alright, RTGs.
speaking of which, projectrho gave me a plug :D

6:28 PM
yeah? do show

So, I'm signed up to do a 10k race on Saturday morning.

The weather is predicting several inches of water in the 24 hours prior, and likely including during, the race.
Sigh...

@PearsonArtPhoto keep you nice and cool :]
i get the feeling what he really liked was the thorium in the area

@kimholder ah cool!

6:30 PM
RTGs!

I'm hoping, so long as the ground isn't full of puddles...
Might get to practice some hurdling as well;-)

Sounds like a good time.

and atomic rockets! of course!
@PearsonArtPhoto when did you say you first started running? it was recently wasn't it?

To some extend about 18 months ago.
More seriously for the last 9 months or so.

So... before that you ran as a joke?

6:35 PM
I'm pleased to see that The Martian is going to play in more theaters than I previously saw:-)
Well, I wasn't that faithful in it...

The local astronomical society got 75 free tickets to The Martian, but I did not get in on it in time. :(

I would run whenever I felt like it, sometimes several times in a week, and sometimes not very much.
I was hoping to get one from HiRISE, but no luck.
The HiRISE team should have gotten free tickets... And they could surely find a free ticket to give a former student on the project, right?

That doesn't seem unreasonable.

My daughter actually wants to see The Martian, I'll probably take her tomorrow.
I mean, it's only been, what, 8 years since I worked for HiRISE, that's not that long, right?

I don't even really remember what I was doing 8 years ago.
Do you stay in touch with them?

6:39 PM
A little.
I haven't seen any of them in about 4 years, but I still talk to several via Facebook, for instance.

that would be a pretty cool experience, taking your daughter to see a movie like that, when she knows you worked on a project that was used to design the CGI and even influenced the script

Yeah, that would be really cool.

I had two claims to fame on that project.
The first was that I wrote a blog article about the image processing.
I was actually one of the more active bloggers on the team for a while...

heh, i'll have to look those up sometime

The second claim to fame was that I examined every pixel of an image devoted to trying to find MGS when it died.
The blog isn't on the internet anymore.

6:44 PM
aw

I also was quoted in the newspaper in an article or two.
> "Our preliminary analysis so far has not yielded any definitive sighting of MGS," Li said.
That was me, I believe. I know others on the team looked as well, but I think I was the only person who looked pixel by pixel through the entire image. And HiRISE images are huge...

heheheh
well, a noble mission
and hey, you can listen to podcasts and stuff at the same time

7:05 PM
I might actually have done that...
That was in the day when I listened to podcasts...

7:52 PM
@duzzy auto-duzzy: I + [negative] + [action on previous line]

8:13 PM
I am not automated.
:P

8:31 PM
We could probably even verify that. You've met @geoffc, and @kimholder met @geoffc, and we just learned today there's several Kim Holder persons. Your Bacon number might be pretty low :D

8:54 PM
@duzzy i had to get back at you for questioning whether i'm real or just a figment of another kim holder's imagination

@PearsonArtPhoto 10K is a fun distance. You can pace a bit better than a 5K. They say that at the end of a 5K you should feel like throwing up, if you did it right.

9:19 PM
@geoffc so a bit like going to Oktoberfest :)

@geoffc I'll keep that in mind the next 5K.
My 10K was just cancelled, due to inclement weather. Hopefully they can re-schedule it...
I remember that my 5k I hit a point at about 2 miles in that I just felt weak everywhere, it wasn't a particularly good feeling...

@TildalWave Sure. Every heard of the Hash House HArriers? (Indians might be more familiar with them historically). They are a drinking group with a running problem. They meet at a bar, do a hunting kind of running. (Hare presets a route with chalk or flour that hints at the route, you have to discover aspects of it). The hounds chase the hare (I have been to 2 with live hares. They get a 5 min head start and have to mark the course as they run!)
Usually stop at a bar midway for a drink, finish at a bar.
Lots of fun. Even if you do not drink. It is fun running.
@TildalWave It is really a Geoffc #, none of this non-kosher bacon nonsense. :)

10:01 PM
ISS Progress 61 Docking Coverage to the aft port of the Zvezda Service Module is now webcast live on NASA TV. Also available via YouTube or USTREAM
well it should be, I guess they're gonna cut into it a bit later
ah yes, in about 10 minutes
> ISS Progress 61 Docking Coverage to the aft port of the Zvezda Service Module (Docking scheduled at 6:54 p.m. ET) (starts at 6:15 p.m.)

nasa tv has been just a black screen for me last 2 times i've tried. i only get ustream
190 watching. wow, now i see the difference with the water announcement

@kimholder If you're on Firefox you will have to enable mixed contents, or disable HTTPS Everywhere and load the HTTP only page, or click on that shield icon in the address bar and allow mixed contents there
that might be similar for some other browsers too, but out of those I use only FF changed this policy recently enough
oh, and I think Safari too but 1) I wouldn't use that and 2) I'm pretty sure you don't either :D

no, usually i use chrome. i disabled https everywhere and tried loading it again
though it is coming in fine on ustream. just to test

load the HTTP only page then, it might still have the HTTPS address that's reloading

yeah, i did notice that. it is indeed loading now

10:16 PM
@kimholder you could always press F12, go to console, and reload the page then see what it's complaining about and solve it through that

ok, i've got it. just deleted the s from the address and enter

yeah but now anyone in the position to know but not also competent enough to simply read it here will know what you're watching :P

i don't think i even understand that so i'm not going to worry about it "P

then you wonder why google ads are offering you space exploration paraphernalia ... :))

oh - i like that. i can't avoid ads, they might as well be more interesting

10:20 PM
you can avoid ads

and i have https on 99% of the time
@TildalWave but that would be wrong =D

I use Ad Blocker Plus, Ghostery, and about 1 MB long HOSTS file with shady domains redirected to Valhalla
that does include Facebook LOL

you know, i kind of mean it. ads pay for a lot of services i like. i don't block them, and only very occasionally find them annoying

oh I do have them enabled on some sites, but I like the ability to disable them when needed, and not display them by default when just browsing random sites
