I'm not sure if the next scheduled lecture "Images of the Infant Universe" on latest results from the Planck telescope will be webcast live, but if it will be, it should be here youtube.com/user/SVAstronomyLectures .... I won't have the time for updates, that's all I've got on it

Nature vs. nurture in the evolution of galaxies is not completely understood. Where a galaxy is found, its environment, can play an important role in determining the properties of that galaxy. This may not always be true, however.

Philea did what anyone who's first tried to land on a small gravitational body in KSP does, bounced;-)
And tipped it sideways.

12:14 PM
well it's not hooked or screwed in obviously so all that happened is (that bit of) gravity
it would be interesting to know what's the centrifugal force at its current landing site wrt the gravity
and if there's whales :)

12:30 PM
anyway, we shall see in 30 minutes
wow the media briefing will last 2 hours ... that means there's a lot to say / explain

12:46 PM
I think I just fixed a bug that's been vexing me for a long time...

Rosetta Philae landing / Media Briefing on 1st day on a comet is now webcast live from ESOC via Livestream.

Stu

so the lander is lost...
is that what they are getting at?

@Stu No... just not exactly located yet. They have said it's almost certainly in that area on the head of the duck

Stu
ah okay thanks
i was listening on and off

There was a nice image showing the possible location region, but I didn't get a chance to capture it
This site is being pretty quick with images
Blue is the landing area. Red was landing site 1

Stu
ah cool! thank you

So, I got accepted in this. nasa.gov/social-orion-multicenter

Which center will you be at?

Goddard.
So that means I can probably see the JWST.

Woo Hoo! Do not drop a Junior Mint into it! :) (Bad Seinfeld reference!)

I haven't RSVPed yet, but I'll get there.
I hear most big telescope mirrors have dings from people dropping screwdrivers and the like on them.

Beryllium ones too? :)
I am not a US citizen, on a green card, not sure if that would suffice, per their rules.

Don't know.
It sounds like you can go, but might be limited to where you can go.

The Philae lander of the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission is safely on the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, as these first two images from the lander's CIVA camera confirm. One of the lander’s three feet can be seen in the foreground. The view is a two-image mosaic taken on Nov. 12, 2014. The lander separated from the orbiter at 09:03 UTC (1:03 a.m. PST) for touch down on com

Yes! My first silver badge, i am unreasonably pleased. All for an answer to a moon hoax question. Such a big draw, on this site? sigh...

Nice.
It takes a certain type of question to hit the hot topic list, and those tend to be on it...

I guess for a true SEx.SE fan, it's a bit like insulting your mother :)

Atlantic Council's talk w/ ULA's Tory Bruno: Endless Possibilities for the Future of Space Launch is now webcast live via YouTube. More info here
