@Beofett on the main site: "The real influences in science by science fiction are so widespread that limiting it to "main" or any other artificial qualifier would still result in a massive list. Everything from organ transplants to computers, modern weapons, space travel, etc... A whole series of books could probably be written on the topic"

So I suggest the moderators to reopen this issue, to authorize only short answers, and to close it when it's enough. @Beofett do a good start: 1.organ transplants, 2.computers, 3.modern weapons, 4.space travel. We can cite the first books and also the

@SébastienPalcoux Opening a question for short, incomplete answers, and then arbitrarily closing it when "enough" have been received is just not what this site is about.
It's right in the FAQ: "To prevent your question from being flagged and possibly removed, avoid asking subjective questions where …

every answer is equally valid: "
Also from the FAQ: "You should only ask practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face. Chatty, open-ended questions diminish the usefulness of our site and push other questions off the front page.

Your questions should be reasonably scoped. If you can imagine an entire book that answers your question, you’re asking too much."
and: "If your motivation for asking the question is “I would like to participate in a discussion about ______”, then you should not be asking here.

It's the reason why I edit: <<I limit the answers to discoveries and researches that have received a Nobel Prize or a Fields Medal>>, and I don't edit about "short answer".
So now, I see no rational reason why this issue can't be reopen.

@Beofett, I'm now agree with you. I prefer of course complete answers, and for so I choose to limit the subjects to Nobel Prize and Medal Fields. It's not an arbitrary limitation, it's a rational way to choose the main subjects. Are you agree now ? Can we reopen the issue ?

If you are still not satisfied (are you?), there is also the solution to pass to a community wiki issue, is it correct ?
