Ah, now that we are in public beta, we have a few questions hitting HNQ:

Q: What is quadratization?

user1271772In the context of discrete optimization, what exactly does it mean to "quadratize" a function? The term seems to be used mainly by operations researchers, in my experience.

Q: Are there any efficient algorithms to solve the longest path problem in networks with cycles?

Evren GuneyI have a directed social network and as a preprocessing step I need to calculate the longest path lengths for each node. Longest path problem is NP-hard as far as I know but I've seen dynamic programming methods for DAGs. Is there such a method for general networks with cycles? All arc weights ar...

Which means more attention to Operations Research! Also, I think these questions are good and non-trivial, which is not always a given for HNQ questions.
I see there are also plenty others. I count around 6-8?
Hmm, are recently public betas somehow boosted in the magic HNQ formula?

@Rob Great -- thanks. I'm going to try to draft that page tomorrow. If I can't, it will probably have to wait a week (unless someone else does it first) since I'll be traveling.
@Discretelizard That's awesome. I only see 1 OR question on HNQ now. I guess it changes often?

@LarrySnyder610 Yes. It is possible that most of them became inactive. Whether a question enters HNQ mostly depends on how much it gets voted, answered and viewed by the Operations Research community. Whether it stays depends on whether people from other sites, of which the bulk is Stack Overflow.
I think the full list is here: stackexchange.com . It seems all of them are off the list again.
They recently changed their algorithm to favour questions from smaller sites more, although it seems that only holds for getting in the HNQ, not for staying there.

@Discretelizard got it.

@LarrySnyder610 Thanks. Don't rush it in one day. If it takes a few weeks that's unfortunate but that's what it takes. --- @Discretelizard Thanks for the HNQ posts. -- Both: BTW, Our Newsletter Subscriptions are apparently working but there's some breakage on the NL page in general (still possible to subscribe from your profile, and my Starred Link (on the StarBoard) for the preview works fine).

@LarrySnyder610 I think it is also possible to add a feed of the HNQ questions to this chatroom.

@Discretelizard a site has up to 5 questions in HNQ, no?

@double-beep Yes, I think so. Which means that those definitely weren't active at the same time.

@LarrySnyder610 Our main Meta has a feature request for Customizing the How to Ask which might be worth a vote. It also links to ELL's Meta where Coleen describes the process (when there is a Moderator) for getting boilerplate altered (so having a Help Page that relies on links to our Meta, which can easily be updated, seems better than trying to put everything on the Help Page you are writing; and baking it in).
