Q: I am unable to save files from LibreOffice and Web Browser

Satya PrakashUpdate: It has been marked duplicate of another fstab question which I have checked. There it is about external drive but for me, write permission from Browsers and LibreOffice is not working on any places of my hard drive. Also, I write using touch at any places and partition I want. In /dev/sda...

Could you add the contents of your fstab file to the question? (cat /etc/fstab)

Added content of fstab
I have checked. Mine is not duplicate as in my case write from Libreoffice and browsers is not working in any places on my disk and pen drive. I can write using touch to all places.
I can save changed to existing file in Libreoffice. Just mentioned if this is useful. I am unable to find suitable answer anywhere.

I have retracted my close vote. Your last comment seems to imply that there are problems with the permissions of the directories and not the files, though it is extremely strange if it is related to only three applications and all file systems.

Yes, I can save even new file from gEdit. I just checked default browser. From there, I cannot save page too. I thought to check more app. Notepad++ is installed as I can see from list but it dont open.

In Folder, I see progress bar at top which is just strange. It stays there. You know that round-round wheel!

Use pathlld. github.com/waltinator/pathlld.git - Bash script to answer "Why can't I read/write that file?"

@waltinator But I can write file using command-line or gedit.
@Bruni I think because of info at top that this may be a duplicate of ..., I am not receiving answers. Please remove that as you are convinced that this is not a duplicate.

Hi could you please add some information - edit/paste the output of those commands - cat '$USER/.config/user-dirs.dirs' - cat /etc/mtab | grep '/dev/sd' - df -Th | grep -v fs

@cmak.fr Added the output. First one was not working with $USER so dropped that part. and started with ".config/...". I think that you wanted.

If you have not done it, please try to purge LibreOffice, sudo apt purge libreoffice and after that install it with sudo apt install libreoffice. The advantage with purge is that all files should be removed (let us hope also the files that create problems for you).

Thanks for edit - about the $USER it was $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dirs
A TRY : Backup then delete the LibreOffice profile - Close all LibreOffice apps - Backp cd ~/.config/ ; tar cvfz ~/bck-libreoffice-profile.tar.gz libreoffice - Delete profile rm -rf ~/.config/libreoffice - Then open LibreOffice and try again to save a file. - If needed, here is how to restore the backuped profile tar xvfz ~/bck-libreoffice-profile.tar.gz -C ~/.config/ - If this newProfileCreation is a workaround for LibreOffice, there could be the same for Chrome

@sudodus I have tried this: sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove firefox. And this: sudo apt-get install firefox. I have not restarted the system. But, nothing has changed. If you still want me to try your solution?
@cmak.fr I tried your solution till 3rd step. I has not helped in saving.
@cmak.fr I thought to restore after restarting the system. After restart, I saw I cannot even change folder from the left side. Just to show how my save dialog looks. drive.google.com/file/d/… ( I think, I have saved it after restart) Now, I have restored using your command (4th step)
Other than gEdit and touch, screenshot-tool can also save file as usual. Browser cannot even upload. I cannot upload to photo.google then tried to gmail using browser. Did not worked then drag and drop has worked. Dropped the image into body of gmail inbox.
I have removed FF using this ` sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove firefox` . I saw this has not helped. Did not restarted the system. After that installed using this sudo apt-get install firefox. NO benefit.

Please download if necessary ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso, check with md5sum and create a USB boot drive. Boot from it and check if you can save files from LibreOffice and Firefox. If you can, I think you should consider to make a fresh installation. Before you start installing, you should backup all files that you cannot afford to lose, probably all personal files (documents, photos, video clips, music files ...).

@sudodus, your solution is basically re-installation which is always a solution in these case. But here application specific problem is troubling me. OS is running without any problem so I was looking for a solution here.

You are right about that, but at some point you must decide if it is worth more effort to solve the problem in the current system, or if it will actually be easier/faster to make a fresh installation.

At my place and location, internet is very slow. It takes hours to download such files.

1. Which was your previous version of Ubuntu, the version from which you upgraded? 2. Have you still got the iso file or a DVD or USB pendrive made from that iso file?

ANOTHER TRY : due to upgrade from previous Ubuntu version apparmor could be source of the issue. First, stop the apparmor service and try to save a file from LibreOffice sudo systemctl stop apparmor. If I had a good guess, send me a beer :)

@cmak.fr, No, apparmor has not helped. Thank you for your effort.
@cmak.fr, I saw that libreoffice profile is in complain mode in AppArmor anyway to which I understood that it is not enforcing. FF profile is not enabled which is the default.
Possibly I need to download new Ubuntu early morning.
I Installed Abiword. It was not there earlier in my system. But, still same problem. It cannot even pick older libreoffice writer file. Possibly fresh install is the only solution left.

I forgot to inform here that my setting is not working. When I want to go to setting through Show Application then I do not receive anything.
