@Namoshek To John, frontend technologies are "completely new frameworks". It's completely reasonable that someone trained in Java does not know a thing about front-end development at all, let alone the internals of specific frameworks. Furthermore, it has not been established that John (or even the hiring manager who hired John) knew that the job John was interviewing for required those skills.
