@kortuk This seems like a consumer electronics question to me but has gotten a lot of attention so I feel like I am the only one who has that opinion.

Q: Are AA-to-USB Direct Chargers Safe?

NoBugsI've found some Do-it-yourself guides to making a 4-AA battery usb charger, which are basically four AA batteries connected to a cut up usb cable: http://robotification.com/2007/09/15/diy-usb-travel-charger/ http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-4-x-AA-USB-Altoids-Battery/ It looks like a us...

just because he is building it himself doesn't seem to make it any more of a design question to me

@Kellenjb - IMO, he's asking about a design problem. You're right, connecting 4 AA batteries with a USB cable isn't exactly the kind of question we want here, but the answers are good.
That's one way we evaluate questions: If they garner good, on-topic answers, they're probably OK. If the result of this question was answers to the tune of "Here's a premade battery pack with USB output", I'd be more concerned.

Q: There is a way to use notebook batteries on a desktop?

Diogo_RochaI have an old notebook battery at home that became useless when my old notebook dies (RIP). I was wondering if I can use it on some way to implement something like a no-break for my father's desktop. I know that I could have a really low break-energy safe time, but it would be really usefull in t...

User on the above question requested a migration, is it on topic for the hack nature of hooking up the laptop battery as some kind of deadman? @KevinVermeer @Kortuk
