the new guy (now 8 weeks in) supposedly has about 20 years of experience as a web dev. today, he started noticing some weird behavior in the app, so we told him to confirm it by clearing his cache and trying another browser. we generally dev in chrome, but it's not a rule.
turns out it was just a caching issue, but after he switches to FF, he starts poking around and finds a showstopping bug - extra aggravating as we're literally preparing the final build for a release. if you click a button on this page, the app white screens. it's not a silent javascript or anything.
the button is one he added to the system

"i never tested in firefox" "why the hell didn't you test in firefox?" "i didn't know we had to." "why wouldn't you have to?" "i thought we only use chrome. no one ever talks about firefox." "*we* use chrome. our customers use whatever they want." "well, i didn't know."

went to sushi with some friends. one girl was studying japanese, but just through some online self learning course. we go to sushi, and she proceeds to look at the japanese on the menu and going on about how its all wrong (this is the wrong symbol. this is spelled wrong) . and then she tries to tell it to the waitress who just smiles and nods.
I guess so, I just think it'd help if you tried talking first, rather than immediately tossing flags about? Mainly because flags are judged outside of your culture - what's okay in a chatroom might get nuked if it's flagged

I'm not disagreeing there, it's okay to use flags, but I think that a flag is the strongest tool a user has and you ought to be sure before immediately escalating to the highest level you can escalate to
@Wipqozn we might have to move part of this convo later (it really doesn't belong here), but regular, non-mods, non-RO's, they can only "flag normally", right?
And the conversation does belong here, because I'm letting the folks here now that, despite your advice, they're welcome to use flags when users start tossing insults around.
Now the user being insulted isn't in th eroom, and is causing meta drama, so whatever, I don't really care and the folks who reviewed the flags didn't either, but it's still breaking "be nice"
personal bias: I have gotten 30-minute read-only timeout bans before for cursing at windows updates, etc and would have preferred someone to tell me rather than shooting me

@N3buchadnezzar Got a friend of mine who is all crazy about them. He took me out to the theatre to see The Avengers when it came out. I thought it was pretty boring. I've seen plenty of others too
Been watching the top 250 essential movies, much betetr than 99% of the mediocre mainstream Hollywood movies. However they do require quite a bit more attention to enjoy, and after tought. So sometimes I just put on a braindead movie as a guilty pleasure.
