Q: How can I increase efficiency of this Palindrome check algorithm in Java?

YaMiNI'm trying to solve this which is basically a Palindrome check with some minor extra steps (Special characters and whitespace can be ignored), the problem is that the test inputs' length can be 100000 characters. I don't have access to the inputs but between 5 datasets my code fails in one of the...

Q: Using another class's methods without inheritance but type hinted otherwise

InSyncI have a class which "inherits" str's methods using the __getattr__ dunder method instead of true inheritance. For full explanation, see this question on SO. This is how I define my class in Text.py: from functools import cache class Text: def __init__(self, content: str): self.content =...

Q: Transcoding UTF-8 to UTF-16-LE in VBA

GWDVBA is a language that's lacking a lot of basic functionality. (Pun intended) Most libraries, if they exist in the first place, are OS-specific, and even some of the inbuilt functions don't work on MacOS or have bugs in any environment. Recently I've found that the StrConv(s, vbUnicode) function ...

Q: Bellman-Ford optimisation in C with Shortest Path Algorithm (SPFA) and Small Label first (SLF)

c.leblancI am trying to code an optimized version of Bellman-Ford algorithm. This post is a continuation of the following post Bellman-Ford optimisation in C in which I posted a first version of the classic Bellman-Ford algorithm (without the SPFA and SLF optimizations): Descriptions of the variation I'm ...

"Regarding my code, I am not going in the easiest way to achieve that!" If it reliably gets the right answer, then you need a much more precise question in order for it to be valid on Stack Overflow. We do not do code review - there is a separate Code Review for that. For example, is it too slow, or use too much memory? — Karl Knechtel 18 secs ago

Have a "move-reference parameter" (one with &&) and doing a std::move does not actually move anything. It merely allows a move to take place. In my own projects, the team convention strongly prefers B, and A (passing a unique_ptr by move-reference) would be called out on a code review. Also, there is a strong distinction (in our code reviews) for pass-for-use versus passing-ownership; a unique_ptr would never be a parameter unless it was to pass ownership. If you ask this over on Code Review, you should get an answer to your question. — jmarkmurphy 53 secs ago
@jmarkmurphy, if this were on Code Review, it would be closed immediately as it's completely lacking context. We have no idea what Ipl9039L or wIdx are, for a start, nor why the constant 2021-31-01 is important. And the comment //do something seems completely wrong, as the code does nothing there. — Toby Speight 29 secs ago
Before you post at Code Review, be sure to read A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users, as some things are done differently over there - e.g. question titles should simply say what the code is for, as the question is always, "How can I improve this?". Be sure that the code works correctly; include your unit tests if possible. You'll likely get some suggestions on making it more efficient, easier to read, and better tested. — Toby Speight 14 secs ago

Q: Python: Best way to define and re-use an object for tests

Álvaro A. Gutiérrez-VargasI have some tests running on my Python package using . However, I am noticing that I am re-writing a lot of times the same dictionary that is an input for several functions I am testing. For the sake of the example, consider the following function foo() def foo(dictionary:dict, key:str): """ ...

If people would actually read the scope of the site, we wouldn't have to disappoint them :(

Myth #1: People read on the web
People only read word-by-word on the web when they are really interested in the content. They usually skim the pages looking for highlighted keywords, meaningful headings, short paragraphs and scannable list. Since they’re in a hurry to find the very piece of information they’re looking for, they’ll skip what’s irrelevant for them.

So don’t expect people to read content that seems neither easily scannable nor relevant for them, therefore long text blocks, unnecessary instructions, promotional writing and “smalltalk” should be avoided on the web.

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ No, really?
I'm a little slow today, the problem that caused my heart attack (SVT) 3 years ago acted up yesterday. I was in the emergency room for 5 hours. Home now.

I considered posting the whole page but figured it might not be worth the effort 😏

LOL!

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ As if anyone would read it :-)

@Mast Rather than scanning through it?

@pacmaninbw Sounds awful. Is that going to keep happening?

Possibly, it is the first time in 3 years. They can do a procedure called ablation that is supposed to fix it, but I know 3 people it didn't work for. One of my daily meds (a calcium blocker called diltiazem) was increased yesterday. That does help.
It was not painful yesterday, just scary.

I upvoted Jon, but I also upvoted your answer. You are actually raising another issue altogether re using char vs codepoint. Of course you are right about this. Fortunately, this is not code I would try to sneak past a code review :-) — hughj 58 secs ago

possible answer invalidation by zwoolli on question by zwoolli: codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/284084/revisions

@Duga I had encouraged OP to remove ellipses shortly after it was posted, and OP finally updated the post to add the full code 😏 ... I don't believe it invalidates the one answer
Per the on-topic Help page "It is fine to post supplementary code on a third-party site, but the most important parts of the code must be embedded directly in the question." so as long as the essential parts of the code are present that is fine. Be aware that reviewers might attempt to run the code so it might be wise to ensure the ellipses are in comments so as to avoid run-time errors. — Sᴀᴍ Onᴇᴌᴀ ♦ 23 hours ago

if you post on Code Review please read the help center pages like How do I ask a good question? - the title is about CR goals instead of describing what the code does, which is not congruent with the site convention — Sᴀᴍ Onᴇᴌᴀ 43 secs ago
