I respectfully disagree. In the stack exchange community, the expertise to answer this question is most likely to be on SO. As you point out CV is for fundamental statistical questions which this is not. This is also not a code review. I include the code mostly to give a clear example of what I am looking for. The good news is that Roslyn updates significantly improved VB.NET code generation.
Previously, if you had someStr & someInt it would have been equivalent to: Conversions.ToString(Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Operators.Concatena‌​teObject((object) someStr, someInt));
Now, it's actually String.Concat(someStr, Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToString(someInt)).
(Most of the time.)
The difference is the casting of the string to object and boxing of someInt to object don't happen anymore, now someInt is converted to a string first, then we use regular string-concatenation.
 
I knew that vb.net does some black magic around the type system, but still... this is just as bad as javascript
 
It really is.
VB.NET has very limited type-inference, and it's not always consistent.
Dim thing = True will turn thing into a Boolean, but Dim thing : thing = True will turn thing into an Object and box the True.
And that's language dependent.
I think it's 12+.

One of the reasons I really like F# is type-inference, it does a great job at it.
 
my gripes with c++ type inference are mostly some edge cases (type of {0}? different deduced return types for return something; and return (something); for a decltype(auto) return type)

It's hard to know at this point. There was a group of scientists that have reviewed nutrition science published in the last couple of decades and they found that the sugar industry has been running the same plan that the tobacco companies did - promoting junk science showing that sugar is not harmful.

Also, there was a study of the metabolism of cancer cells. Apparently, they are not able to metabolize fats and protein, and so are pretty much completely dependent on glucose. Also, fructose is a critical element in their reproduction. This would suggest that if a cancer patient drastically reduced their sugar and starch consumption, the cancer cells would starve.

@Hosch250 I generally look for existing questions on SO. There is so much attitude when I ask a question. My answer generally stay at zero on SO.

Simply because if I hit a problem, someone else has already for sure.
Or if they haven't, I need to take it up with the group writing the software.
Like my last SO question--resulted in a bug patch in .NET Core.

In an email war between my boss and another owner who runs Operations. They both hate each other so they're bastardizing an enhancement that Operations wants us to make because neither person's idea is good enough for the other. I thought I went into IT to avoid politics?

This enhancement started as "can we combine all the alert emails we send daily between 0300 and 0600 into one?" and now it's "well we should text the user if they meet certain [arbitrary] criteria instead, and perhaps do a login-redirect on the website."

@pacmaninbw I find your camelCase naming of database objects a bit strange, that's definitely not typical. May I suggest using snake_case or TitleCase?
