I have Civic Duty, and Electorate, and Reviewer for First Answer.
I'm going on 200 edits, too, but the other queues are pretty slow.

I'm going for SO badges. I'm seeing if I might be able to cap out my moderator status score before next election.
I have 77/1000 in Suggested Edits... that's the closest I am to [Steward]...

Oh, OK.

But I have 362/500 for Marshall... I don't think that will be too tough to get if I focus on it.

You have a whole year, don't you?

Yeah.

12:47 AM
Lol, I was almost capping out on flags every day when I was active in the queues...

I need [Marshall][Steward][Reviewer][Constituent]

Oh, being active in the queues will get you the review badges too.

Won't be able to get [Constituent] until there's another election...
but those are the only four badges that count toward your moderator election score that I don't already have

Won't there be an election when we "graduate"?
"graduate".

spiking upward:

12:50 AM
Nice.

We have graduated, we're just waiting on SE's team to design the new site (from what I understand)

@nhgrif While I have considerably less rep than you, I like how mine makes a nice logarithmic curve.

I have less than 1k.
I was trying for a while, but I kept getting out-gunned.

It'd be funny if it only takes a week or two to design a site, but the design teams are just procrastinating by giving the excuse "CSS".

Here on CR, I can take my time and research things for the answer if something doesn't seem right.

12:56 AM
@Hosch250 Oh, that's my rep chart for CR.

@EthanBierlein Now, if you could make a SEDE query to provide the rep as xls, you could match it against a logarithmic growth formula.
Sounds enjoyable.

Maybe...
@Quill I just say it looks logarithmic because of images like this:
Truth be told, I actually don't know much about logarithms...
That is, of course, because I'm still learning Algebra.
Geometry begins next year though!

Just lets you map the growth or decay of something

Q: Better options for waiting in a background thread?

Leon ZhouI have a method RefreshCustomersInternal that refreshes customer data from a server and returns a Task. Since this process is very costly, I want to prevent this method from being called too many times in a short time or prevent the process from running if there's another refresh process running ...

I have a funny story. So, I participate in a program which helps teach people programming, and the language taught is Python. So, today, I had a kid come in who doesn't know anything about programming, and so I started off teaching him the basics of Python, and after a while he said this: "Python is too hard. I want to learn an easy language, like C++".

@EthanBierlein Lol.

ikr
I had to say to him:
#include <iostream>

class myClass
{
public:
 myClass(int);

private:
 int i;
};

myClass::myClass(int x) : i(x) {}

int main()
{
  myClass my_class(5);

  // dynamic
  myClass* my_class_ptr = new myClass(5);
  delete my_class_ptr;

  return 0;
}
To be honest, I don't know C++, this is just the program I showed to him, to which he then said, "Oh, well, nevermind.".

@Hosch250 I recommend still making the effort. When I first started at SO, I often times felt this way. I kept setting myself reachable goals. But in the end, you learn a lot by posting answers, even to SO. Eventually, you will get lucky and you get one of those slow-burning long-time score rep answers.
One of my top 5 scoring answers was posted December 2013. Two of my top 5 scoring answers were posted in January 2014. One was posted in November 2014 and was about an at-the-time brand-new-ish feature. And the last was posted January this year and earned me the [Populist] badge over Jon Skeet.

I'm on the fence about this question; it's really more of a design and concept "review" than a code review where you would have actual functionality implemented, i.e. code that actually does something. My POV is that entities belong in the data access layer, and contain things that the view doesn't need to be bothered with (like the internal ID). If "might take some time and processing effort" isn't a proven performance issue, then I see no reason to "leak" data entities all the way into the views. — Mat's Mug 1 min ago
tempted to VTC as opinion-based, given absence of context

@Kikit. Consider posting this on the Code Review stack exchange. That site is better suited to have people look at your existing working code and give the feedback that you're looking for. — matrixugly just now

Oh. I think you are right about the design and concept review. I thought here might be a good place to ask, but if you think this question deserves to be elsewhere, please tell me where. — hsim 56 secs ago

Hey, both mugs are here!

2:26 PM
I think a problem is that there really is no better place to ask the question.
@Mat'sMug Is the problem lack of context or opinion based? How about asking for more context?

I'm sure Programmers.SE already has answers for that

I'm not so sure.

On code review we review code that you already have, not code that you think you may want. No stack exchange sites are designed to handle the "what should I do" type of question that you have. Code review is for "how have I done" type questions - for after you've done the work. This question is off topic because it's asking for opinions on code that has not been run yet, and does not work (yet). — rolfl ♦ 15 secs ago

thanks @rolfl
@SimonAndréForsberg what I meant is that, given that there's no code that uses these classes, and no information about the number of instances involved, one can only emit opinions about whether such or such avenue should be preferred.
I think

@rolfl the code in the question isn't hypothetical, it's not pseudo-code, anonymized code. The problem is that he's showing one piece of code, but wants a review on a part of code he doesn't show...
> So I am developing an MVC app with EntityFramework and I have this call that retrieves a list of Book which are directly items from my database.

It is hypothetical: Projected BookModel
> or should I create a BookModel class that I will manipulate in my view?

@rolfl I read that as a projection, as in entities.Select(e => new BookModel { ... })
the result of a .Select call is called a projection

Oh, interesting.... I read it as "anticipated".

2:34 PM
> Projects each element of a sequence into a new form.

You have working code you are looking to improve. That's a code review. This site is for getting help with code that doesn't work. At least that's my overly simplified take. There's a good meta post about this (and using programmers SE). I'll see if I can find it. — rmaddy just now

I want to string the programs' input/output through pipes such that the first program's input will be std.i...

Obviously ,none of question provide what you really want to achieve? and if you have a messy code then provide your code in this site codereview.stackexchange.com, so that people can analyse and suggest what wrong in it or a smarter way to achieve it. — Vizllx 35 secs ago

Hello @RubberDuck

@EthanBierlein yo

@StackOverflow What are you doing here?

@JeroenVannevel look at the tags

oh I see, on that question
Why on earth isn't that tag removed yet

I don't know. I asked a question about it on meta

Q: Why, why is there a [code-review] tag?

Ethan BierleinThere is Codereview site. Why on earth does Stackoverflow need a code-review tag? I think it should be burninated. There is another question on this, but as far as I can tell, nothing has been done.

5:17 PM
FYI, the tag wiki excerpt for the code-review tag reads DO NOT USE THIS TAG. *Code reviews are off-topic on Stack Overflow, please use codereview.stackexchange.com to request a code review of otherwise working code.Mat's Mug 6 secs ago

There's already a pending edit on that question, I removed the CR tag.

oops

That's okay :)
At least it's gone
now
What's the name of that one programming webcomic again? It's not thecodelesscode or xkcd...

commitstrip?

Ah, yes

5:38 PM
@Mat'sMug "As you can see, I'm struggling with the pipe implementation. Also, is there a way to test if this program works?" indicates that it does not belong on Code Review. Please read Be careful when recommending Code Review to askers :) — Simon André Forsberg just now

@Mat'sMug ^^

no shit
where does my comment recommend CR?

Sorry, I read your comment as a recommendation. Because of the "please use codereview.stackexchange.com to request a code review of otherwise working code." I guess

I was quoting the tag wiki excerpt ;-)
@SimonAndréForsberg I wasn't recommending CR, merely pointing out that the tags were misused. — Mat's Mug 1 min ago

@SimonAndréForsberg muddied @Mat'sMug's good name

5:42 PM
either way, I think it's important to point out that the question is not suitable for CR

Death to the infidel

uh

@JeroenVannevel Which of us? Me or Mug?

euh
both, to be sure

5:44 PM
On second thought, I'd prefer neither of us, actually.

probably me
(not showing today's because SO ranks in at +5 above CR ....)

Q: A Note class which plays a note and stops it after specific period of time

user2136963Uses c# and NAudio.dll 1.3.8.0 I am new to threading and the constructor seems too complex to me. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading.Tasks; using NAudio.Midi; using System.Threading; namespace SoundVision { class Note...

a Note class that plays and stops itself? SRP beat-up?

@EthanBierlein Oh... I was for a moment thinking that we had a tag

I hate TFS
I blame Git

a while back, my team used TFS for all of two weeks, hated it, and switched to git

Q: How can I reduce the size of my Web API service method?

user74206This is the code I'm using to GET the definition of a word from Worknik's REST api. I don't want to ignore any error but this is causing the code to be ridiculously long. I'm new to Swift so i'd appreciate it if someone could explain how best to trim it down. Thanks: class func define(params: D...

What is it about questions? Almost every one of them uses function calls as GOTOs.

Q: Ticker feeds in Chat

Hosch250The ticker feeds in chat are interesting, but also annoying. One feature that would make them very nice is a face feature, where they fade away after displaying for N seconds (perhaps even user adjustable). As an example of this, I didn't clear my ticker for a while, and this is what I got:

@EthanBierlein did this get closed as a dup yet?

@Hosch250 I am not in the screenshot, -1!

I think it is like a duplicate of a duplicate. there are several meta questions surrounding that tag on SO

@Duga That's no reason for a -1.

6:19 PM
@Lyle'sMug Click first, ask later.

ain't nobody got time fer dat

would have been faster than asking and then me posting the screenshot :)

@Duga you're on the starwall...

@Duga I see a message posted by you, but the ticker covered up your name.
2
You are the one that says: Get RemoveParameter working off a Declaration again

@Mat'sMug and my Brainfuck on rails message is too, lol
@Mat'sMug Is there any point that @Duga is not on the star-wall in that room?

Q: Finding the right RESTful endpoint

Himanshu YadavI have a use case which says: Your REST service will consume a JSON object that contains a list of emails for subscribers at the start of the subscription period, and a list of subscribers at the end of the subscription period. Your service must return a list of subscribers who are new, subscribe...

@SimonAndréForsberg nope. @Duga is a star :)

@DanLyons Was afk for a bit, haven't noticed that yet :P

BD-J, or Blu-ray Disc Java, is a specification supporting Java ME (specifically the Personal Basis Profile of the Connected Device Configuration or CDC) Xlets for advanced content on Blu-ray Disc and the Packaged Media profile of Globally Executable MHP (GEM). BD-J allows bonus content on Blu-ray Disc titles to be far more sophisticated than bonus content provided by standard DVD, including network access, picture-in-picture and access to expanded local storage. Collectively, these features (other than internet access) are referred to as "Bonus View", and the addition of internet access is called...
Didn't know Blu-ray uses Java?

Q: How should this code be unit tested?

Nathan JonesI have some code that I have some end-to-end tests written for, but am unsure if this code needs to be unit tested and what those tests should look like. Please see this repo for the code I'm referring to.

@RubberDuck yup, I noticed, a bit late
monkvening btw

hi!

hey Mug

@janos I figured. That was more for OP than you.

If your code works and you think it needs review/refactoring suggestion, please, next time post it on codereview.stackexchange.com. — Vohuman 22 secs ago

@janos How's the commute going?

it's been a little over a month. So... it's starting to get boring
I lost a lot of code review time

when I lived 5 minutes from work, I used to answer 1-3 before breakfast

I notied your slow-down, on one hand I'm disappointed, but on the other hand, it's more for me to answer, and also, just pleased you're still active ;-)
we worried for a bit ;-)

now sometimes I can get in 1 text-only, poorly formatted answer with many typos from the train :)

@janos Don't have a laptop computer eh?

I do... but the trains here are dodgy. I'd get mugged man

@rolfl I should congratulate you on retaking the top spot.

my inactive period was really unusual: my moving was a huge mess, I had no internet at home for a month
@rolfl @200_success your competition at the top is really unfortunate for me: impossible to catch up

@200_success Thanks .... it's certainly not an intended consequence, and I doubt my position there is at all "stable".....

Well, we both got a head start.

I am just so close to legendary that I have been capping a bit recently...
2

@rolfl Damn straight. It's only a matter of years before I catch up

once that gold comes through...... I will probably slack off again, and lose #1 ....
but, it is a whole lot easier to stay ahead, than catch up ....

I reviewed the monthly reps from about 2014 summer. the closest I ever got to you guys was -15k. And now I'm down to -20k
