12:02 AM
Hola, Español-parlars! Estás aquí?

12:22 AM
Hola!
@JeroenVannevel ¿Qué pasa?

Es ok, problemo fixo

Ya veo.
BTW, the only part I remembered was "hola."

I'm fairly certain it's "yo"
unless it's slang-spanish
I don't know about that

Well, Bing says "Ya veo" and Google says "Veo".

Yeah, you can omit the "yo" and "tú", "usted" and all others
Spaniards don't care about that

12:27 AM
"Ya" is probably the feminine form or something.

OK.

@JeroenVannevel Is that Spanish or pseudo-Spanish?
"fixo" seems a little bit... foreign :)

yo no knowo what you-os talkos about-os
olé
I'm still in the process of learning. Some words might not be authentic Spanish
Consider it a Belgian dialect
ah god
I sent some recordings on new years eve while I was.. not very conscious
2
Now I have to start explaining them
I didn't even know I sent those

@JeroenVannevel New years does that to yo

12:41 AM
Not when you don't drink.
And don't stay up really late, like I did.

"Be as clothes-off-able as you can be"
Why, high me, why.

@JeroenVannevel What the...?

Of course people save the recordings I send them. Of course they do.

What were you recording that for anyway?

@Phrancis Yeah.. I had the same reaction
@Hosch250 Well don't ask me, I lost 6 hours from that night
2

12:45 AM
^that

I woke up to text messages from a guy called Walter telling me he'd bring 65€ and lube.
I don't know anyone called Walter

LMFAO
3

but apparently he knew the address I was at at the time
and he was saved in my phone under the name "Pauloo", for some reason

And the moral is don't drink or whatever you were doing to get like that.

Sounds like it was a fun new year's @JeroenVannevel :D

12:47 AM
oh yeah definitely
in a few weeks the exams are done, I'll get to do it all over again

Why do you? You know it causes problems.
I'm sure it doesn't feel good.

@JeroenVannevel Will Walter/Pauloo be there? :)

I wouldn't say it doesn't feel good. I like beer, we had a lot of fun and I like other substances
I don't have any hangover-related problems so I was fairly fresh the next day
@Phrancis Haven't heard from him since I told him he had the wrong person, I think I'll be fine ;)

@JeroenVannevel Beer feels good. Especially Belgian beer. Best damn beer I've ever had. American beer tastes like .... horse piss.

@Phrancis Exactly! (I think, never had American beer)
So you can't really blame me for drinking our beer
If American beer is like Heineken then yes: exactly

12:52 AM
It's worse

huh
A few years ago I was outside of Belgium, I forgot what country

You don't know what tasteless beer is until you've had a Bud Light™.

When I ordered a beer I took one sip and immediately recognized it as Heineken
I couldn't finish it
It's so tasteless.

I can't do Heineken either. And it's so ridiculously expensive in the USA, like it's some kind of fancy import.

12:55 AM
Pfft
You know what's ironic?

Do tell

Swedes going to germany to buy Carlsberg

I wonder how many starred messages are just various forms of LOL.
4

Well, when I think of it... It's also pretty ironic that a virgin soft drink costs just as much as a cheep beer
At the bars here
€3 euros for 250ml

@JeroenVannevel I'm actually surprised they would have Heineken in a non-Heineken™ brand glass. I think they have to do that here, to preserve the fancy brand.
Heineken tastes only sightly better than Bud Light, AFAIK.

1:03 AM
I don't really pay attention to glasses outside of Belgium, anything can be in it
Inside of Belgium every beer has its own glass guaranteed so I can just assume what I get there

Every beer?

@JeroenVannevel You mean that the glass you drink from has the brand logo on it?
That sounds... expensive O.O

No, every beer has its own glass
not just the brand logo

@JeroenVannevel every beer as in every brand?

1:07 AM
@JeroenVannevel I should immigrate to Belgium

I don't think a Westmalle Dubbel and Westmalle Tripel have a different glass
or a Brown vs blond
Here at home we have an entire closet full of beer glasses
3
It's considered very bad form to pour a beer in the glass of a different one

Insulting to the company, or something?
Or deceitful to the guests?

insulting to Belgians
We're pretty proud of our beer

I can't even find a Hoegaarden glass on the front page. Is it the Heineken of Belgium?

What if you pour Belgian A in a glass of Belgian B?
It would still be Belgian.

1:11 AM
I see hoegaarden on the frontpage
4th row of the grey pictures, 1st from left

Oh, didn't look very hard. (what she said)

Definitely not heineken!
@Hosch250 part of the different-glass tradition is that the shape of the glass accentuates certain parts of the taste

I see.

I don't know how much of that is true and how much is just custom, but it's one of the reasons given

Or should I say I taste?
(Which I don't as a non-drinker.)
@JeroenVannevel If I post another question, would you have time to review it to make sure I am doing everything you suggested?

1:14 AM
@JeroenVannevel That's what I meant by expensive, for the bar.

It'd be interesting to conduct a double-blind test to see if different beers in different glasses actually taste different

yeah sure, just post it and I'll look at it when I have time.

OK. Thanks.

@Gemtastic Typically bars focus on a few brands. I'd say every bar has.. 20? 30? beers?
It kind of depends

@Phrancis Interestingly enough, the visuals of what we consume plays a big part of the perceived taste.

1:15 AM
Some beers are traditionally more popular than others as well: Jupiler is what you'll get when you ask for a "pintje" (aka: a beer), Duvel and Hoegaarden are the tougher ones which you'll often see with older men
I love Duvel, very strong

Cola without the dye that makes it black. Now there's an interesting taste-ride

For example, the glasses we have downstairs:

Q: Whats better: Storing data in memory or open the file every loop

MERoseI have a large text file of 9000 rows. The first column contains names and my python code looks up a string in this column to get the entire row. The string comes from another textfile. 1:17 AM
@JeroenVannevel Holy carp. That's impressive

@rolfl Just doing my part in putting Belgium on the map
Wait until we get to the fries, chocolate and waffles.
There's a long night ahead of us

And I thought I had a lot of free-bee coca-cola glass @_@

@JeroenVannevel I know a few of the good things from Belgium

Over here most bars carry Budweiser, Miller, and Coors. And their "Light" variety. And sometimes a couple micros. And some "imports", like Heineken and Corona.

What's the deal with the light beers?
We don't have them here so I know nothing about them

1:22 AM
They're marketed as lower calorie versions. Which they are. Also lower flavor
They are truly awful.

Some things really shouldn't have a light version

@Phrancis That's why we don't have them here
Well, there are beers with fewer calories, but noone really drinks them...

pricelist of a really awesome beercafé in Ghent
only light stuff are soft drinks :p

@JeroenVannevel 2% alc./vol. beer sits great with rednecks watching football and NASCAR.

@JeroenVannevel Here it is, when you have time: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/75603/…
Don't rush over it.

Alright, let's have a look

@JeroenVannevel What does 't stand for?

@Phrancis It's a shortening for "het" which means "the"
so what it really says is "het dreupelkot" -> "the.. dropcabin", something like that

Ahh ok thank you

1:31 AM
"dreupel" is a bastardized word of "druppel" which means a "drop"
you can buy Jenever there, the Dutch/Flemish predecessor of Gin
strong liquor, very yummy

Sounds like it

You'll find that there is a lot of French interweaved in the Flemish language

1:34 AM
@JeroenVannevel Sounds delicious!
I've heard that French is spoken in a few parts of Europe besides France. I think the proliferation of languages there sounds interesting
Over in the USA you're given a weird look if you speak another language than English in public...

Yeah, the Southern part of Belgium (Wallonia) speaks French
And the Swiss speak a mumbojumbo of German and French

Q: Knight's Tour with Backtracking

Manny MengWhen someone suggested me to solve Knight's Tour, I did so with backtracking and recursion. It takes a lot of time to solve even a 8x8 board: N-A1 N-C2 N-E1 ... N-E6 N-F4 Time used to solve: 5417011 nanoseconds That seems quite a lot, but the most interesting part of my al...

Q: Sync Eye Movements with External Events (Python ØMQ ZeroMQ)

carlitusThis solution was used to synchronize events between two applications: An eye tracking software, python, and a stimulus control software, object free pascal/delphi. I tried to avoid a rewrite of the stimulus control app from objfpc/delphi to python. Hence, I was happy when I found that zeromq al...

For solve(8), I see that NH8 is followed by ND8, which doesn't look like a legal move to me. I'm putting the question on hold to get that issue sorted out. — 200_success ♦ 11 hours ago

Q: Re-implementation of Caolan McMahon's parallel and map functions

ForbesmyesterI have wrote my first reasonably complete piece of ClojureScript code and would like feedback. It is basically a re-implementation of Caolan McMahon's parallel and map functions from async in ClojureScript. This may be a completely useless exercise because Library X already does this or Feature ...

@Jamal About the , I think it makes perfect sense for such a tag, and I hope it will become more and more popular in the future. In the future, it could possibly be merged with other human-computer interaction tags.

Or we could have a general human-computer interaction tag.

@Vogel612 I fixed it.
@Vogel612 It was my question.

@Jamal if we find other types of questions where that would be applicable, sure.

Q: Pairwise combinations of an array in Javascript

patI wrote a Javascript function that seems to successfully generate the unique pairwise combinations of a list: function pairwise(list) { var pairs = []; list .slice(0, list.length - 1) .forEach(function (first, n) { var tail = list.slice(n + 1, list.length); tail.forEach(f...

Th0masR0ssI'm writing a class called TextRenderer to render text with OpenGL. Here's my header file: class TextRenderer { public: void renderText(std::string text, int x, int y); private: void setup(); GLuint program; }; Notice how I have a private GLuint, program. To do this I have to #incl...

If you paste an image link that does not have a 'image type', like:
https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/8415294208/h664DFE50/
then the one-box will not happen, like:
But, if you prepend an ! to it, then it will happen:

@rolfl What is that thing?

Hairless cat, with makeup

that's a really obscure formatting shortcut then..

9:28 PM
The Sphynx is a breed of cat developed through selective breeding starting in the 1960s, known for its lack of a coat (fur), though it is not truly hairless. The skin should have the texture of chamois, as it has a fine layer of down. Whiskers may be present, either whole or broken, or may be totally absent. The skin is the color their fur would be, and all the usual cat marking patterns (solid, point, van, tabby, tortie, etc.) may be found on Sphynx skin. Because they have no coat, they lose more body heat than coated cats. This makes them warm to the touch as well as heat-seeking. == Breed... ==

Anyone good at brute force? This question still lacks a performance review.

10:00 PM
The invalidation here may need to be removed. I'll be switching to my phone soon.

@MannyMeng Technically, a question can remain open as long as you are unaware that is is broken. However, in this case, since the solution was easily demonstrably incorrect, I figured that it would be better to give you a chance to fix the bug so that we don't waste time reviewing buggy code.
I don't mind you introducing a tag. However, if you do, then please find half a dozen old questions that such a tag should be applied to, and also suggest text for a tag wiki.

@rolfl thank you

I should build a passive income app.
I'll continue on my moviepicker idea, I've got a part of the backend for that already anyway. And I'll write the frontend in Java for Android, that way I'm practicing for my exam coming up soon
great idea
Time for a break

@JeroenVannevel I already have one, but about 5-10 euros a month ain't much.

Can you ask to be paid out in Rubles?

don't think so, and considering how the Rubles is going (and my opinion about the Russian Government), I definitely don't want to.

Well it's not like the Ruble will keep falling
Either someone will cave or WW3 happens
in the first scenario the ruble goes up, in the second everything else goes down as well
You can only win
Right?
I've failed my economics exam 8 times in a row so far so I might not be an authority on the subject

it just seems logical

@JeroenVannevel That sounds dreadful... I know someone who's had Statistics class... They call it Sadistics class.

Yeah, it's horrible

@JeroenVannevel economics, logical? What economics have you been studying?

Although this year they let me do both economics of the 1st year and the 2nd year
I've failed for the 1st one 8 times and the 2nd one 2 times
I like my school.
Fingers crossed for this year!

@JeroenVannevel Have you considered looking into a different field of study?

@Phrancis I study Applied Informatics
They just give us economics classes so we can start our own company

10:43 PM
Ah

even though I already have a certificate for that from highschool that allows me to

you need a certificate to start your own company?

All my IT related classes are awesome: 19/20 for Java II, 16/20 for OO design, upcoming 20/20 for WinPhone, etc
but then I have economics 3/20 or some maths 6/20
@SimonAndréForsberg yeah
it means you have basic knowledge on how to maintain a company
lol, as if I'll be doing my own bookkeeping

I am.
and I don't have a getuigschrift.

I like the American way. You lose your ass all your money twice before doing something successful. =;)-

Well, I earned my certificate by doing a little presentation on bankruptcy in high school
5 slides or something like that
apparently that's the equivalent of 3 years economics in college

might as well find it in a Corn Flakes carton.

yeah, the original idea was to have us set up an entire mock company and everything
but the teachers had some poor organization
and by the end of the year it still wasn't done
so they just gave it to us like this
I don't really care since I'm never planning on doing my own bookkeeping. And if I would, then I'd have to retake the course for it anyway

@JeroenVannevel that seems to be way too common

I'm not going to touch bookkeeping with my current knowledge
Everyone does what they do best and this isn't it for me

I strongly believe that everyone can learn though.

10:51 PM
That's one of the most important things an old mentor of mine taught me. Stick to what you're good at. Pay someone else to do the rest.

@RubberDuck exactly my philosophy as well

@ducky That deserves a star, at least.

Holidays are officially over.... let's code :D
Hope everybody is doing great :D

@Mehrad What on earth are you doing on your holidays??

Trying to learn how to write Android apps :) @SimonAndréForsberg and eating :D

Q: Variadic template for concisely defining a tuple whose components are all the same type

WyzardC++11 provides a std::tuple template, but it requires the types of all the fields to be listed individually, which is inconvenient if there are many fields and they're all the same type. If I want a tuple of, say, 10 integers, instead of writing std::tuple<int, int, int, int, int, int, int, int,...
