@Barmar If I may argue the native position here...it helped her employer. Even if she had tenure, that arguably indirectly helps her.

Again, I'm not one of the people who thinks this is a huge deal. As a White guy with enough Osage heritage that a case could be made for ticking that box, I totally understand the temptation to do it.

In the end, I came to the decision that I'd rather see those preferences go to Osages who have had to deal with some of the negative aspects of being Osage in a White society. But I've already got more than I like separating me from my father's people, so I could see others being resistant to that, or perhaps waffling on it. Particularly in a situation where it helps other people rather than just yourself.
