@TheSimpliFire Do non-moderators have any tools to address this outside of flagging for mods? Not sure I've seen something like this before.

8:28 AM
@KReiser I'm not aware of anything non-mods can directly do about it, the answer can't be deleted as it's accepted.

9:25 AM
@TheSimpliFire I just flagged that post. I am relatively sure the moderators will not approve. That was a clear violation of the rules around bounties. Nothing else we need to do, I think.

@TheSimpliFire From the same author: math.stackexchange.com/a/3678418/42969 “This is an answer to receive my bounty back.”

9:46 AM
@MartinR ... awarded by the author of this (deleted) answer math.stackexchange.com/a/3674752/42969 “An answer to save the bounty..”

That is not good, seems like a bunch of users doing the same thing
I wonder what will happen to this bounty next week.

I proposed a duplicate target for this question (“Trouble to understand infinite series ... it doesn't make sense to me because we can't continue adding terms until infinity”) – There might be other/better targets.

12:38 PM
@MartinR What about this one? Note that I find your suggested target a good one.

@JoséCarlosSantos Yes that is a good target, it has also been suggested in a comment in the meantime.

@MartinR I used my dupehammer to close it as a duplicate of both of them.

1:39 PM
@TheSimpliFire @JyrkiLahtonen @KReiser Indeed. Please raise flags when you see this kind of thing. For those of you that did, thank you.

2:17 PM
FWIW, while we were busy pointing at the bounty shenanigans, The Poor Jew received 5 upvotes to 5 different posts in a span of 13 seconds. I flagged it, of course. Looks like the mods are investigating it. More recently, the other party put up a bounty on the same question. Leaving the rest to the mods.

Marina was similarly rewarded by four upvotes in the span of a few seconds. Looks like someone is not aware of what data is viewable by all and sundry. :-)

2 hours later…
@Peter Why can't you vote to delete?

@MattSamuel It's a horrible PSQ but other posts have it as their dupe target. If other posts have been closed as dupes of post X, post X cannot be deleted. Best bet would be to find a better dupe target.

A great idea to shield questions from being deleted with duplicate-links (be careful, irony!). The other method is bountys.

4:31 PM
@Peter In the past, we identify a better duplicate target, even if previously closed as a dupe of this one, reopen, then find the dupes to change their target, so a post like this awful post can be closed. It takes a concerted effort. @MartinR and @MartinSleziak have some experience of this sort.

Then, we should delete this first

@Peter Only one more delete vote needed.

@Peter Gone.

Close. Also, sorry, but I am out of close votes!

@amWhy Open for deletion
@Xander If you have the time, please help me to delete this question. It will also obliterate the need to handle my half dozen flags on sophomoric comments between two users.

8:25 PM
Thanks @MartinR and @Shaun for the added delete votes math.stackexchange.com/q/4003666/9003. I can't believe someone has voted to reopen it already!
One more close vote needed here.

@amWhy Ugh... Thanks for the heads up. It seems that it was deleted before I got the chance to purge the comments.

@XanderHenderson No problem on the purging! Glad to see it "go away!" The deletion simplified everything!

@amWhy I agree that deletion simplifies everything. I wish my students wouldn't get so annoyed when I make a similar suggestion regarding their grades. "Giving everyone an F sure simplifies everything!"

@XanderHenderson Hah! ;D

Honestly, I really like teaching, but there were days in graduate school when I really thought that the university would be a better place without any undergraduates. :D

9:42 PM
@XanderHenderson Don't I know such days and such thoughts! :D

@amWhy M'kay... I have some downvoting to do. :P

@XanderHenderson Yikes!! ;D

Heh.
At my current rate, I'll hit 100k in about 13 years. :D
Then another 17 years to hit 200k.

10:35 PM
@amWhy congrats! And if you get downvoted, then you can celebrate again later, when you cross 200k again.
@XanderHenderson you could accelerate that with some rep-hunting! (just kidding)

@supinf i like your approach!

11:07 PM
@Xander You need to speak in the Cafe soon! You're not pingable there! @Jyrki, you too: there's another word search, but despite my ping, it couldn't reach you :(
You too, @JoséCarlosSantos. You need to join us in some recreation in the Cafe and Tavern: see the new word search! ;D

Oh, crimminy. I just spent an hour writing an answer to this question, because it looked interesting to me, and I didn't find a good dupe target. But, I think, the question should probably be closed as a PSQ. I probably shouldn't answer it.
:\
meh
I answered it anyway.
The question is (to me) mathematically interesting, and the asker engaged in chat. If the question is closed and deleted, I shall cry exactly one small tear.
