As you sleep, you hear the sound of horse hooves, pattering along the ground once again.

Tifer has finished sketching and has turned in for the night

It sounds like it's getting closer. You hear faint jingling and clinking of metal, as though the rider is armed and armored

Rio is fast asleep in his easy chair, oblivious.

Tifer wakes up and tip-toes over to Rio, tapping him on the shoulder

He stirs, blinking groggily. "Mmmf?"

The horse hooves get even closer, almost deafening. And then, silence.

"listen"

You hear a horse neigh and armor clanking

It sounds... like its approaching your door

Rio stares at the outside, bewildered and still half-asleep. "What's a horse doin' here?"

Tifer has moved into a corner, closing eyes for the concentration required to prepare spells

You hear a loud knock and banging on your door. An unfamiliar voice yells out "OPEN UP!"

It's definitely feminine

Rio jerks awake and fumbles for his rapier. He leaps to his feet with a swashbuckler's dexterity. "Ti-Ti, hide."

"I SAID OPEN UP!"

"No' gonna get 15 minutes, am I." Tifer sighs and scurries back to his room

"Si, si, it's the middle of the night!" Rio shouts back at the voice, annoyed. He plods to the door, grumbling and rubbing sleep out of his eyes, and opens it.

"OPEN - UP" there is a faint break in the voice

You see a soldier, in solid plate armor, with the helmet covering her face. You see an insignia on her shoulder which looks vaguely familiar

(what's valerio's last name?)

Rio stares flatly. "It's late and it's been a bad day, señora. What the hell do you want?"

(Montoya...)

(right, I forgot)

"ARE YOU VALERIO MONTOYA? IS TIFER MONTOYA, YOUR ADOPTED SON, ALSO PRESENT?"

Valerio drums his fingers on his rapier. "Who's asking?"

"YOU ARE BY HERE ARRESTED FOR THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF HIS ROYAL LINEAGE LYNN HIKARI. DO NOT RESIST YOUR ARREST." She takes out shackles and moves towards you.

???

Valerio sidesteps away at once. "Are you joking?" he says, disbelievingly.

She closes in on you, faster than you can react. "Just go on with it, please," she whispers. You recognize the voice this time. It's Saffra.

(North, please, what is happening)

"I am done playing royal games, señora," he says, angrily, and shoos her off. "Good night. Whatever this is."

Rio hovers his hand over his rapier. "Explain yourself, chica. We're trying to have a break from noble nonsense."

Her voice breaks, crying. "Lynn's been stabbed. His family is dead."

She drops to her knees and removes her helmet

Rio stares, completely taken aback. "....What."

(????)

(hold on)

"An assassin disguised as a noble tried to kill him. His family was also murdered. I don't know why, but you guys are being blamed for it, after rumors spread that you were last seen with him."

(I'm getting rid of Lynn's parents and his credit card before adventure begins)

(..........so we're being accused of murder to start the campaign.....)

"You guys need to hide, just for a day or two, until they get this mess cleared up. It shouldn't take long before they catch the real killers, but right now, you're in danger."
