@EdmundReed Of course people get paid to write code. That's why the term code monkey exists. It's unfortunate, but some people really are paid for that.

I find it remarkable with this massive thread no one bothered to mention that sickness can spread to other coworkers, or impact the entire day and not JUST coding. That means transportation, interaction with other coworkers, group discussions, office tasks, handling items at the office, etc.
This depends on company culture, but in my last job, if I was sick, the last place my boss wanted me to be was at work making other people sick. He also understood that it would be a pain in the ass to actually drive my car to and from work while sick. Why no one else has bothered to consider this, I am not sure. If you're working somewhere and your employer is treating you like a child at school that has two days out of the year that they get to use the bathroom during class, you should leave.
I'd much rather work for someone who understood the entire scope and dynamic of a work day, and not just what code I'm writing.
