I tried to redefine `* ` for use in outer but didn't succeed; any idea why?
The syntax for outer is outer(X, Y, FUN = "*", ...) (default function is *).
So I would have thought that the two following commands would have the same output:
outer(1:2, 3:4, `+ `)
`*`=`+`; outer(1:2, 3:4)
but they don't: the second line uses multiplication, and not addition.
Do you know what might be going on?
