4:42 PM
@NobodyNada you're around?

@AJ Yep

A J
So, I have opened Event Viewer

@quartata they also could have asked SOBotics...we've been doing pretty much that that for a couple years now with HD

A J
@NobodyNada I should look at critical events?

@AJ yeah, go to the "System" category in the left pane, sort by date, and scroll to the time of the blue screen
the blue screen itself will have a "critical" status

A J
4:46 PM
@NobodyNada So, there are total 7 events, 3 of which I am not aware about.

@AJ screenshot?

A J
Wait
I am actually taking a picture. Can't risk of crash at this time.
@NobodyNada ^

@AJ on the left pane, go to Windows Logs -> System, and scroll to 20-06-2018 22:07:30 (the time of the latest critical event)

A J
It says "the previous system shutdown was unexpected"
@NobodyNada another screenshot. And it got crashed again.

5:03 PM
@AJ hmm, can you post the details section for the errors preceding the critical event?
@AJ when it comes back up, can you see if there's a way to get crash details from the dialog that informs you of the crash?

A J
@NobodyNada sure. There was a warning one. Will it help?

@AJ Possibly

A J
Wait a minute.
Here you go. The blue screen with crash message. @NobodyNada

awesome!

A J
Huh?

5:13 PM
@AJ Useful information

A J
Ok

@AJ I'll do some googling and get back to you soon

A J
Ok. Thanks.

The parameters are supposed to be pointers to more information, but the RAM dump failed so we can't get that information. I'll keep looking...

A J
@NobodyNada the warning

5:21 PM
@AJ can you post the Application Popup and Event Log errors?

A J
@NobodyNada How do I get this?

@AJ Click on them to see their details in the bottom

A J
Ok.

37 messages moved from Charcoal HQ

A J
Should XML view be sufficient?

5:27 PM
I think so

It crashed again with kernel_data_inpage_error

@AJ that's from the warning or one of the errors?

A J
@NobodyNada warning.

anyway, it looks like you very likely have a failing hard disk or failing RAM

A J
Can't we find which one it is?

5:36 PM
@AJ I think I'd try using the CrystalDiskInfo tool from the article Angus linked

A J
Ok. But it's late now and I will not be on my laptop tomorrow, so I will try it on Saturday.

@AJ That's alright.

A J
Thanks for your help and time. :)

@AJ if I were you, I'd run memtest86+ overnight
Up to you though

A J
Ok.

5:40 PM
install it on a USB drive using this program, boot from the USB drive, and let it run overnight

A J
My pc must not be shut down during that, should it?

@AJ nothing bad will happen, besides the test being stopped
Your PC won't automatically shut down while running memtest; it'll keep running tests forever until you power it off manually

A J
So how do I get the results?

@AJ Check in the morning and see if it's displaying any errors

A J
Ok.

5:49 PM
You can just take a picture, power the computer off, and deal with it later

A J
6:02 PM
@NobodyNada How do I run it?

@AJ did you install it on a USB drive?

A J
Yes but it's not showing anything.

@AJ hold down F12 while you reboot the laptop, what do you see?

A J
Ok.

(and just to be sure: you ran the installer program and selected the USB drive in the installer, rather than just copying the installer onto the USB drive or something, right? Just double-checking)

A J
6:06 PM
Yes

👍
are you able to bring up the boot menu by holding F12? is the USB drive present in the boot menu options?

A J
Yes. It seems that the test has been started.

@AJ awesome! I'd just leave it running overnight then

A J
Should it look like this?

yep, looks right!

A J
6:10 PM
Ok. Then I will leave it. I also suppose it will take less battery power than a normally running laptop would.

@AJ maybe, but I wouldn't necessarily expect that
Best to plug it in if you can; if the battery runs out during the night you won't be able to see the test results

A J
I will keep it plugged in but I can't say when the power goes out. Because weather is not good and there is a sandstorm coming.

ooh, hopefully you'll be fine then

A J
Anyway I gotta go to bed. See you later!

goodnight, see you later!
