You are using inline link, Prefer the link from to editing tool bar. select, click, and past.
It normally uses [link text][1] .... and at the bottom [1] ...

You are probably right.
It might also be important to know what percentage of readers and editors use one or the other.
I suspect that the one you use is more commonly preferred.
That is an important point.
OK, so I will definitely check http/https, and I will try the new way to make links.
