Q: SHAKE-128/256 or SHA3-256/512

Alejandro MartinezWould it be better to use SHAKE-128/256 or SHA3-256/512? In what situation should I chose one over the other?

@bdegnan That's exactly what someone only cleared to utter official NSA talking points would say!

Haha. Yeah, that would be true.
My peace lily is named NSA, so that way I had an official NSA plant.
Their mathematicians were very interesting because outside of academia, they were the only people who I have met who truly loved mathematics.
We are only servants to mathematics, and people who respect that are excellent at their craft.

Q: Are there any symmetric cryptosystems based on computational complexity assumptions?

ChrisAre there any symmetric cryptosystems which are provably secure in the sense that there exists a reduction from their security to the hardness of some underlying hard problem such as integer factorisation? If not, why not?

@forest Hey Forest, nice to see this topic discussed. The getRandomValues command that you referenced on line 503 and 504) is part of the W3C crypto api w3.org/TR/WebCryptoAPI/#RandomSource-method-getRandomValues
(in disclosure, I'm a contributor github.com/w3c/webcrypto/graphs/contributors) and it sources local entropy through the browser as it is a javascript-based command.
but can be used in an offline setting if the program code using it is inline or from a progressive web app that works in offline mode (i.e. all processes can be localized in a cold environment for reducing attack vectors). I host that version of the same AES tool that I modified here (for educational purposes) which works offline (.html file can be saved locally) and sources entropy securely as per the W3C spec: bcaventures.com/AES.html

btw, if anyone wants to make a fortune, the money is in wet-mateable connectors. I just paid $2k for a cable just because I can plug it in underwater.

Ouch, eat your heart out monster cables.
What's the interesting project that you need it for? Or is that clasified or something?
