Q: AES and perfect ciphers

solI'm taking a crypto class this semester and after learning the definition of a perfect cipher I started wondering how this definition applies to AES. Obviously AES isn't a perfect cipher since the key length is only 256bit at the maximum but when talking about blocks of sizes 128bits-256bits can...

@Ninefingers, @ThomasPornin: I'm going to put up a banner to announce our chat meeting tomorrow. Any objections?

Q: Chatcast event #1 - meet the moderators

NinefingersUs moderators have colluded and found a time we can all make for the first chatcast event (see the link for the proposed idea). The first chatcast thing will be on (Monday) the 28th of November at 19:00 UTC for one hour. Of course, the event can overrun if demand is there. The topics will be: ...

@PaŭloEbermann I think the main notification banner gets set on the main site too... might be wrong about that though? In any case I don't mind at all

@Ninefingers I'm not sure about the automatic notification
I'm waiting a bit longer to see how it looks like, but if it does not appear by itself (or is only somehow hidden on the side), I'll add a similar banner like the one now on meta.

@PaŭloEbermann Sounds good to me; I don't think anyone will object to it and I think we need it, really.

Q: Algorythm to encode two values together wich is reversible

QqwyI am searching for an algorithm that, if you have values A and B(wich are both saved in the same fixed block length, i.e. 8bits), can encode them in such a way that the encoded value is just one block length(i.e. 8bits) long, and in such a way that it is possible to decode this encoded value so t...

@PaŭloEbermann I edited that Q ^^^, approve? Should I edit fgrieu's comment to match? Or do you think I went a bit far texifying the formal description?
Ah - you're going for off topic?

@Ninefingers Yes, actually. I should not have answered it ...

@PaŭloEbermann Should we ask the maths mods if they'd want it?

I don't think it is a good question in its current form ... might need some edits to fit. Doesn't hurt to ask, though.
