A: Can not boot! Failed to start AppArmor initialization... Computer hanging in booting.. can not start

Scott StenslandWhen you see that crash screen try to get into the console by issuing ctrl + alt + F3 if this gives you a text terminal login prompt then login and issue sudo apt-get install apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu Lets try a new strategy ... reboot box and then immediately start to tap shift key repeate...

when i see the crash screen, the screen is frozen. no key combination changes something.

please read all of the comments in this question askubuntu.com/questions/1006529/…

i tried to hit e and edit the linux line... but its running to the crash screen without stopping or giving me the chance to write/do sth.
Hi Scott, i pressed shift many times, but i can not access gnu grub. Its always going to the crash screen. Is there another key-combi i could try? Thank you soo much for your help!
Now it worked. But my Ubuntu Version is called: " GNU GRUB Version 2.02~beta3-4ubuntu7.3 "? When I press enter on advanced options for ubuntu, my next page looks very different. A list with: Ubuntu, with Linux 4.13.0.39-generic ... sometimes with (recovery mode) ... what shall i do next?
If I take one of the pre-versions .. ie. Ubuntu, with Linux 4.13.0.38-generic//(with or without recovery mode) ... will i lose data?

No it just boots up with a different flavor of system files ... it does not touch your files ... choose the recovery mode for highest number OS which is the broken one

ok. i did it. also issued sudo... now it says a lot of things. its all in german. the last phrase is: you don`
t have enough space in /var/cache/apt/archieves/. so maybe my drive is superfull? its only 120gb ssd.
how can i continue ? or go back? new start?
iam still in the root@myname:~# Modus

2:37 PM
issue sudo apt-get autoremove
this will show you largest dirs sudo du -k / | sort -n | tail -33
another command to display largest dirs issue ... sudo du -k / | sort -n | tail -33

how can i start my notebook

issue this to see file usage df -h however ignore ones like /dev/loop16

is there something like ... boot .. start ubuntu ? i need to get some of my data! i still with the root@...

when you are done working in that root shell issue reboot now

I get the same crash. what can I do with this ? I dont understand."this will show you largest dirs sudo du -k / | sort -n | tail -33 "

to identify what is full issue df -h then especially look at partitions which look like /dev/sda2 yours may say /dev/sda1 or /dev/sda3 or similar ... is one of them 100% full ?

yes its 100%full. how can i make space without deleting my most recent word document. its kind of important. i only need to start ubuntu and copy one document.... after that i can delete everything and reinstall new ubuntu. ... but how can i make a little space to start the computer? Thank you so much scott... i owe you some beers ;-)
dev/sda1 is 100% full

sudo du -k / | sort -n | tail -66
that will display a sorted list of your largest directories ... at bottom are largest ones ... cd into and start deleting ... if you know you can delete /some/big/dir then issue sudo rm -rf /some/big/dir

i get a list, but i can only read some. how can i delete something, and how can i know which one?
cache ,local , do release upgrade ... numbers 4 4 4 8 8 8 12 12 12 ... 40 52 124.

sudo apt-get autoremove
issue that since it only removes unused packages

.... COuldnt record the approved state changes as dpkg selection states

2:37 PM
sudo apt-get clean
sudo dpkg --configure -a
do you have movies you downloaded ?

it gives error (30: The Data System is only readable) problem with removing

sudo du -k /home | sort -n|tail -33

no movies, no downloads.

above command ONLY shows directories you own ... do you recognize them ? cd into one and remove some big files
cd /home/myname/Download ... replace myname with your login ... if you are not sure of your login name issue ... ls -la /home/ ... once there issue ls -laSr ... the bottom most file is largest so zap it rm /home/myname/Download/some_file ... in general you can remove every file in that dir using rm /home/myname/Download/*

i dont recognize them. cd(command?) into them? iam sure you already recognized, but this is my first time abroad with commands and directories. i have no glue what iam doing. :-) I only want my computer again running... do you think its possible to remove my ssd tomorrow and access it via another pc and remove some files and then put it in again and start it at usual? otherwise i think we will need a long time... you explaining and i trying... :-)

2:37 PM
cd /home && ls what does this say ?
in the terminal type in the following exactly as :
cd /home && ls
then hit enter and tell me what is output of above command

mrgreen this is my name

super now issue this cd /home/mrgreen/Download

if i type cd/download/mrgreen/movies ... can i delete my two movies on the laptop? that would be easy

yes exactly please do then issue ... df -h ... to see if its now less than 100%

can not find ... if i put download

2:37 PM
its case sensitive Download not download
cd /home/mrgreen/Download .... assure there is a space after cd

cd /home/mrgreen deletes all my files?

cd just means change directory so cd /home/mrgreen will just get you into your home directory it does not change any file just the location in the filesystem you are in
after you cd into your Download directory issue following to view the largest files in that dir ls -lsSr
cd /home/mrgreen/Download && ls -lsSr

after cd home mrgreen nothing happens. but also no error

great ... now issue following command it changes nothing just shows you largest files in Download dir
cd /home/mrgreen/Download && ls -lsSr
generally every file in Download dir can be deleted ... to delete all files in that dir issue
rm /home/mrgreen/Download/*

not found is the message

2:37 PM
you have a typo even if the dir is empty it would not say that now type in following
cd /home/mrgreen/Download && ls
what did it say when you issued above ? above command will list all files in Download dir ... to show what directory you are in issue ... echo $PWD ... all these commands must be typed in exactly .... if above shows many files great then we can delete them

if i try to remove it comes error - delete not possible, data system only readable (sorry, translated from german)
typo was Downloads in Germany ^^
i get the same error all the time : das entfernen ist nicht möglich. Das dateisystem ist nur lesbar
I will try again tomorrow morning. Thank you soo much! I understand much more now. I will get it fixed.!! when i type cd home ..&& ls i can see my document. soo its still there :-) thanks again and leave me a note if you have an idea what it could be that i can not remove data yet. it always said that its only for read. removing not possible.. Have a good night and greetings from north Germany :-) Power!

issue following to put into normal write mode
mount -o rw,remount /
see you tomorrow good night
