I am thinking of rereading parts of the debate between Erasmus and Martin Luther about theological determinism. On my first reading I sided with Erasmus. He supported free will, but I could see Luther's point--there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. Sure we may have enough free will to decide what we will do today, but there is nothing we can do on our own that would help with anything that matters.
