@StrixVaria Read a few more chapters. So far I'd rank it below the original Mistborn trilogy, but above all the wax and wayne books (including Alloy of Law). Still too early to tell, but so far I think your characterization is better than the characterization in the Wax and Wayne books.

I'm mostly happy that you're invested in the characters at all, because I looked back a few times and thought "why would anyone (other than me) care?"

Making it so readers care about the characters is the single most important thing imo, since if I don't care about your characters then I'm not going to like your book

that's why I hated the fourth ASOIAF book

Didn't care about or like most of the characters that were mains in that book

So I guess that means that, so far, you're above a feast for crows too!

Because sorry GRRM, but the iron islands are lame

I care about the characters so I wonder how much of it just translates kind of naturally to the pages. I imagine GRRM really doesn't actually care about his own characters.
