A: Link to Skyward Database to MS SQL Server

Pimp Juice ITConfirm you have access to authenticate Based on your screen shot showing the use of Integrated Authentication and it failing, you will want to confirm the account which you are signed on as and running the ODBC connection test as has appropriate permission to connect the applicable SQL Server ...

First, tell me about the which driver i will use for connecting to Progress database in ODBC Administrator because I have to connect to MS SQL Server. SQL Server is on my local machine and Progress Database is on Cloud.
"DataDirect 7.1 OpenEdge Wire Protocol" is Skyward OpenEdge ODBC drivers. right?
I downloaded DataDirect 7.1 OpenEdge Wire Protocol drivers and use it but still, connection failed. You can see my screenshots. I already using it

@ZubairSultan Does it allow you to use something other than Integrated Authentication though like a SQL Login? Do you have access to the Progress DB to ensure the security permission at that level is setup correctly for what you are connecting to? Have you confirmed the port number is correct? This document goes into detail on specifying ports, etc. if you look down it a bit if this is applicable in your case: support.skyward.com/DeptDocs/Corporate/IT%20Services/…

Progress DB is hosting on the cloud by "IS CORPS" They gave me only hostname, port, username, and password.

Okay, I assume you put in the username and port number into the ODBC connection then as I didn't see that in your screen shots? I know you hid the host name but I didn't see where you had a field for Port or Username and Password so I wanted to confirm this. Can you use telnet and OPEN <HOSTNAME> <PORT#> and confirm that it's indeed listening and responding as expected on that port from where you are at? I want to confirm you are not overlooking something simple like this?
@ZubairSultan In addition to the comment I left above since your last comment, can you tell me what the exact error message in that you see word for word when you press Test Data Source? Be sure to read the comment above this one too since I forgot to tag you in it.

If I select DataDirect 7.1 OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver then it will not ask for username and password, and if i select DataDirect 7.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol then it will ask for username and password.
check the screenshot on post
on testing its show error that verify your hostname and port

@ZubairSultan I wanted to ask the obvious here, but have you reached out to them yet to confirm what you were given is accurate and to ask them to help you figure out if there's something obvious you are doing incorrectly? Perhaps they had a typo in what they sent you or gave you inaccurate detail. Never hurts to ask just in case.
I'm just not sure what else the issue could be other than wrong username, password, port or host which is exactly what they give you so....
I wish I had something to test with this setup so I could confirm but typically ODBC setup is not difficult at all in my experience. I assume ODBC is the only method you have to connect and not with a DSN-less connection with a connection string, etc., right?
@ZubairSultan Perhaps some of the other options need selected to specify the security encryption, etc. with the SQL Server Wire Protocol such as TLS, etc. I see Connection Option Descriptions for SQL Server Wire Protocol Maybe in the Advanced or Security tab options?

yes, i see in security tab
yes you are right ODBC is the only method to connect

Did they tell you what you may need here to connect to their Progress DB instance or whatever from the security tab and TLS, etc.? Have you tried with and without otherwise or various settings with security and advanced. Do you have support with this Progress other than someone telling you the username and password like one of the admins on their side?
Do you have access to telnet?
I can tell you a command to run and you can tell me the output
if you can telnet

ok tell me commands

telnet
and then enter
and from within the telnet screen type....

I will also email to IS Corps for this issue
then?

5:06 AM
Sorry
one sec
open skywardhostname 42400

tell me exact output or screen shot of what you see, etc.

on browser?

mask out IP address
not in command line
in command line type in telnet and press enter
what does that do
telnet

i will write <ip[ address>:<port> ?? right?

5:08 AM
yes but not in web browser
you need to do open <ip[ address>:<port>
from within telnet prompt
open <ip[ address>:<port>
but first open telnet
and then open the connection from within a telnet session... I think putty can telnet too

could not open the connection to the host on port 23: connect failed

You need to specify the 42400 port that is why
23 is default if no port parameter specified
you do not put colon actually

i write like this :
xx.xx.xx.xx
sorry
open xx.xx.xx.xx:42400

open XX.XX.XX.XX 42400

oh
could not open the connection to the host on port 42400: connect failed

5:12 AM
Sounds like this host or IP address is not listening on that port then man
Do you have a different Internet to try telnet from to be thorough though?

different internet means

If you get same from two separate Internet ISP connections then you can be more assured its nothing on the local network of each or the ISP of each blocking it
Like your business Internet, and your Home Internet, and/or your mobile phone hot spot
try telnet from all to see if all has the same result

i have only one internet connection right now

ok can you call Progress support?
Or skyward
They need to confirm they gave you the correct info
Do you have something like this available to you with this system or what is the status of it at this level?

ok i will call for support to skyward
will i call support to skyward or IS Corps?

5:16 AM
Be specific with them and while you get them on the phone see if they will step you thru ODBC connection while they reset password, etc. to ensure it's working as expected
Ask to confirm they have not locked out the account, blocked your IP address you connect from, etc. too if you still have issues connecting while they are on the phone

ok
i don't have their number only email address i have it

Be sure the hostname/IP address as well as the port number is correct and ask them about which ODBC driver they recommend to use and perhaps any special security settings or advanced settings to use such as TLS, etc.
I see 1 (800) 236-0001 on Google as Customer Support number so maybe they can tell you the technical support or you can explain to them what you need and how you can talk with someone. See if you can "talk" with them if possible otherwise go with an email or online ticket submission if applicable

ok, Thanks @PimpJuiceIT for your support :) I will contact them

5:36 AM
Good luck and let me know what you determine or if you get any closer or even still have issues I can help you with. It's not a problem at all and glad to help!
I guess I forgot my chat room name shows up as my alias name.... in case you were wondering about that.

Thanks, I will let you know :)
