Hey were you talking about slereah ?

Obviously (but there are others as well)

Today seems the most boring day of The h bar without JR

Balarka and 0celo used to be that team until some incident cause them to become weird enough so that their probability of spontaneously ignoring me and not trying to understand me explaining myself is no longer at critical levels
which also explains why math chat rarely got spam attacks and floods recentlty

hmm
hey @Secret uhm what do you generally do to relax yourself ?

Well actually, my default mood is often tranquil ,thus by default I am quite relaxed. There are only a few things that can send me to the edge:
1. Faulty internet
2. Loss of data
3. People not answering my questions and I don't answer people question (if Ihave not said I cannot or unavaiable (help vamprie protection mechnisms lol))
4. People thinking I am a lunatic and thus refuse to understand from my point of view and willing to discuss our perspectives together
In particular, 3 is the main reason I hate being ignored and I hate using the ignore button. Because I want every event to be well documented and traceable in case future reference is needed
Slereah usual offense is 3 as he skipped some of my questions in the past (this feat is now transferred to Tobias Kindletoft, which explains why sometimes when onl he is on, I start flooding the math chat with infinity nonsense)
Some time later, Slereah stopped doing so (the exact reason is some kind of resolution stuff going on so that he found me tolerable again (details somewhere in transcript))
But then a recent event caused Slereah to violate 4 because he thinks I am a lunatic and thus whatever I said don't need to be taken seriously
The incident itself is documented as follows:

2:26 PM
@Secret i got you , you're actually quite chill dont worry !
@Secret So , i want your advice on something
When you're studying all day getting bored , and have no one to play outdoor with , what's the best way to relax myself ?

I will just listen to music, read some books, or sit near somewhere sunny and green

2:45 PM
Okay
@Secret Do you read poetry ? What kinda books do you read ?

I once read the first two episode of the ulysss moore door to time, but after that I mostly read popsci magazines
I actually have not read much books

okay
@Secret can you have private chat rooms in here ?

Users open chat rooms all the time, often to resolve problems and disucssions from the main

but can there not be private rooms ?

3:00 PM
only mods can made those

okay
Hey i have a trivial question
@secret if $x^3=2$ , how do you estimate or even say clearly what x is ?

If you onyl need a rough answer, well you can always use inequalities e.g. $1^3 < x^3 < 3^3$ thus $1 < x < 3$
and then repeat the procedure again

Uhm , i dont really get it
i mean the actual answer is 1.26

3:23 PM
actually, I need to revise, I don't quite remember how the babylonic method works...
Otherwise, you can differentiate $x^3$ to get the error term, then plug in some $x$ and use the error term to approach the answer, or you can even use a taylor series of the cube root

@Secret how do I find this function ?

that looks quite nasty...
hmm...
o wait a sec...

yea

$f(\frac{5x-3y}{2}) = \frac{5}{2}f(x)-\frac{3}{2}(y)$. It's linear wrt its arguments
so $f$ is some linear map, hmm...

Exactly what I'm not getting
how did you figure that it must be linear @Secret

3:36 PM
A linear function has the form: f(ax+bx)=af(x)+bf(y)

Okay ,
what if it would be $f(\frac{5x-3y}{2}) = \frac{9}{2}f(x)-\frac{6}{2}(y)$
would you still call it linear ?

It is no longer linear

okay
@Secret can you go here and star it for me ?

which

A linear function has the form: f(ax+bx)=af(x)+bf(y)
No you write this in the problem solving room so i can star it

3:41 PM
also btw, your above modified example is called semilinear

Okay , so are there more such typical expressions/formulae to know if a function is quadratic , cubic or of some particular degree ?

Functional equations are generally very hard to solve, with no known general method. Only a handful of them actually have closed form solutions

do you know those general forms ?

Not all of them, I only knew very few and I only can recognise it when i see the problem

oh okay
I have another question
@Secret

3:54 PM
change of variables $u = x -\frac{1}{x}$ then solve by plugging in all instance of $\int_{-\infty}^{\infty}f(x)dx=1$
also two more questions, and I have to focus on something else in math chat and you have to find someone to ask your questions in case you need help

Okay. @Secret Thanks for all the help ! :)
Oh and @Secret could you see if its correct ?chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/91179/…
i wrote an answer here , I'm not sure if its the right logic or is it even understandable

Oxygen is quite electronegaitve it will prefer to go fully filled shell than to go half shell. I don't know why at the orbital level, cause I never learned that before, you might have to check later

okay
