Q: Managed backup large database to Azure

dkwGot a bit of an issue here that I need some help to solve. Hosting a database, that is about 400Gigs. This is giving us a little headache getting it to work with Managed Backup to Azure Storage Container. This is the error we get 10/21/2018 12:45:18,spid149,Unknown,Write to backup block blob d...

I'll take a look when I get into the office and can check out that SP.
I know it's due to the blocksize and maxtransfersize but I don't know how that SP decides it off the top of my head

@SeanGallardy you're a SP

@JoeObbish True story

@SeanGallardy I'm busy dealing with problems with Microsoft software

I'm writing JavaScript code :(

Finishing up the blog post
But since it's about windbg, maybe it's time for a break

4:00 PM
@Forrest by "break", do you mean that you won't be blogging for a while since Microsoft will kidnap you?

Pfffft, Microsoft supports open source now, they should be totally fine with exposing internals.
checks VPN settings
Oh LOL...I just found a years-old Paul White answer where he mentions the exact method I'm using.
Not surprised.

4:42 PM
@Forrest link

It's his offhand comment in dba.stackexchange.com/questions/141092/…
Instead of discovering things that Paul wrote about 10 years ago, I'm finding things from two years ago. I must be catching up!

well maybe
imagine if he wrong about things he currently knows

Literally can't imagine it.

neato
you should try the wt command
it lets you watch a thread for the course of its calls so you can avoid a lot of the f11 stuff
that's what it looks like to me anyway
but i'm just a bouncer so

Oooh, nice, thanks!

5:24 PM
@JoeObbish Preach
@jadarnel27 I don't even know you anymore!

@Forrest "I spent a dozen-plus hours hitting breakpoints on CheckSessionTraceInternal, and made a long list of interesting flags along with the function [method?] checking the flag. "
not posting the list

6:08 PM
@JoeObbish @sp_BlitzErik Whelp, I lost.
I tried my best, if there is something you use a bunch please back it up or rely on way-back machine.
It may or may not eventually exist.

can you email me details?

Probably not.. IYKWIM

re^0xFFFFFFF

re to the negative 1?
or is it unsigned?

dude i'm a bouncer
i have no idea
will there be an announcement about this?
do you know what the scope is?

6:13 PM
not sure.

@JoeObbish Don't worry, I'll post it.

6:47 PM
@SeanGallardy what are the domains that are affected?

7:03 PM
xquery is the worst
why can't microsoft delete that

@sp_BlitzErik don't you use that?

yeah but i'm retiring

7:19 PM
@sp_BlitzErik were you the kind of kid who would rather break a toy than let another kid play with it?

what kind of privilege

@Sean when you said "MS Blogs" the other day, did you mean the whole blogs.msdn.microsoft.com thing? Including posts by the SQL Team?

having toys growing up
check out the silver spoon on obbish

@MaxVernon you should be good to go

@JoeObbish cheers!
I thought perhaps I wasn't one of the cool kids.

7:26 PM
@sp_BlitzErik did you play with rocks and glass bottles?
@MaxVernon I will approve 95% of people that I know who request access

@JoeObbish cigarette butts, dead bugs, standing water

all at once?

only on st. patrick's day

@ypercubeᵀᴹ For SQL Team posts see their new blog site: cloudblogs.microsoft.com/sqlserver :)
You know it's good because it was the word "cloud" in it ;)

7:45 PM
@SeanGallardy clearly, anything with "on prem" will result in the blogger automatically being executed on the spot.

@MaxVernon Obviously, on prem is dead, long live on prem.
Thought of the day: If everything is in the cloud, is the cloud in the cloud? Is there a chicken/egg problem here? Does the cloud magically make more cloud out of cloud?

@SeanGallardy after the Singularity it will.

lol
this place got popular real quick... collusion?

8:09 PM
@SeanGallardy stop being unhelpful
we want the old URLs that are going away
not the shiny new thing that no one will like
!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@JoeObbish Have you met me? I'm wholly unhelpful by design. ;)

@SeanGallardy SOON

I know!
@Forrest R prepended to the registers mean that you are addressing the full size of them at 64-bits. RDX is 64 bits in SIZE, EDX is the lower 32-bits, DX is the lower 16 bits, etc. The one weird part is that some registers IIRC when settings their 32-bit components actually zero out the higher 32-bits whereas this isn't the case for the smaller register usage.
@Forrest overall nice post though :)

8:48 PM
Says the guy who accuses Joe of not speaking English

9:05 PM
@SeanGallardy I run with 128 bits

9:23 PM
@JoeObbish Joe's new name shall be XMM

9:41 PM
that's also his gender

:golf clap:

@SeanGallardy Ah, that lines up with what I suspected. Thanks!

@sp_BlitzErik you'll be hearing from my attorney

another disreputable SNAKE

Why are snakes disreputable?
Spiders... gotta keep an eye on those guys

10:21 PM
i'm looking at a query plan
does kind of a self join
it uses 8 nc indexes on one table throughout the plan
plus a key lookup

10:55 PM
@sp_BlitzErik try Brent's rule of five
HTH

five brents per brent

@sp_BlitzErik isn't that an infinite loop?

not clicking
I refuse to do any sql server stuff tonight
tonight is the day of the rest

good for you
how long have there been ignored tags?
i'm gonna ignore ypercube

11:10 PM

I'm v. welcoming

11:50 PM
