Hi, everyone
I am new here, and altogether new to ESL. I promise I'll read up on the meta section questions; perhaps in that way, I'll learn more about my role here. In the meantime, I was wondering if it was possible for who has been doing this a long time to check on an answer I gave to a user here. I think I went way overboard in my explanation. I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence.
If someone could check, and leave a comment where I can find it, I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks so much!

@Susan I don't think you're insulting anyone's intelligence. Collins has a definition for -speak listed as "suffix forming nouns", which makes sense to me, although I think their definition is a little too narrow: collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/-speak

I was looking for some definitions to refer to, but I couldn't find ones that seemed 100% right

Personally, my opinion is that as long as you're trying to help, you shouldn't worry too much--people will give you feedback if they think you've made a mistake :-)

@snailboat - thank you, snailboat. That's a help and an encouragement. :-)

There's something very funny about seeing the Frosty the Snowman hat on Samuel Johnson

@snailboat Glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was sort of Christmassy to dress the most notorious depressive in English literary history as a 'jolly happy soul'.
@Susan I think it an admirable answer. I don't think you can give too much explanation to our audience. Any given learner may be having trouble with lexical or morphological or syntactical issues; you explain them all, and explain them in terms which will allow the reader to 'generalize' the answer, see how it applies in other cases.
