@MartijnWeterings if you don't ping me, I'll never notice you wrote me :-) I've been both in academia and in private industry and trust me, it's not the same. The probability of your code failing when its' run hundred of thousands of times every week, mostly from completely unskilled people, in multiple different machines/operating systems/environments, is much higher....you don't have a team of Quality Assurance Software Engineers in most academies. You have it in most companies

@DeltaIV I believe you, it is (very) different. But universities are changing a lot.
In Switzerland we have the institutes of technology which are unions between universities and research institutions. While there aint qualitity assurance departments they do have software development teams, for all the stuff that they want to put into space, on superclusters, into telescopes, for datamining and artificial intelligence projects projects.
And also the students in these places eventually become in control of the electrical grid, selfdriving cars, communication systems. Often the big software companies, with their Q&A departments, may cater for these productions, but also certain small players might add some little components to it.

Did you remove something? Anyway, interesting! I didn't know Switzerland was closing in on self-driving cars, I thought Waymo's and Uber's advantages were too big
Institute of technology... something like ETH or EPFL?

@DeltaIV selfdriving cars were just an example of the multidisciplinary research. But anyway how these things commonly go EPFL or another university early development -> university makes a startup e.g. in this case bestmile.com -> big company buy small company (and only at tha point you see dedicated QA teams). It may likely be Uber which is only 2km aways in San Francisco, although this development could very well be independent and outside from California.

yes, yes, I know how it works in the Silicon Valley - my company actually bought an AI spin-off sometime ago. I was just wondering if the same was happening in Switzerland too, for AI startups. Cool
this bestmile is Swiss - cool!
