I think it's a matter of perspective of what we mean by "perceive." You DO perceive the nouminal, but only through the phenomenal. If you did not perceive the nouminal at all, then you would not react to it.
I can accept that. We indirectly percieve objects. We don't see the real objects, but we are aware of them, because we see their visual representations.
Like, I can't see the wind, but I can see the tree's bending, from inside a building. I'm aware indirectly how strong the wind is.
