12:38 AM
Suggestion: IRC + Markdown chat.

1:24 AM
@ATaco Would rather have something with a transcript tbh

1 hour later…

2:48 AM
IRC can be automatically transcripted

Anonymous
Just have a server service handle saving the transcript

4:33 AM
@ATaco you mean like a PPCG-v2 IRC chanel

@Downgoat Yes, but with a client embeded into our site, with markdown rendering.

IRC is great because it's a well known standard, but it's limited in it's transcript ability and inability to modify or delete older messages.

@ATaco Yeah, it's impossible to edit messages, and deleting messages can only be done by IRCOps iirc

Anonymous
IRC is too simplistic for modern chat

@Mego Is it really, though? Is editing messages necessary?

Anonymous
It's a very useful feature

Anonymous
It means that you don't have to post another message to correct a mistake

If we host our own IRC server that means we can hack in features. IDK if that's practical though.

5:44 AM
It's really not

At that point, we may as well just write our own chat protocol

We can have IRC as a placeholder until that gets built, or just link to TNB

We were talking about using Discord originally, which has most of the features of SE chat (and the features it doesn't, like stars, can be added through bots)

6:28 AM
surely rolling our own crappy chat engine can't be too hard :P

4 hours later…
10:55 AM
I'm having trouble logging in a again. The jwt thing is giving a 403.

4 hours later…
2:59 PM
@Mego can you restart the server

4 hours later…
6:45 PM
Login is completely borked here too:
> Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 (FORBIDDEN)
> Unhandled promise rejection – Error: Request failed with status code 403

In response to the profile spam epidemic: we definitely need a way to flag profiles

I've already blocked a few IPs that have been trying to perform CGI-related hacks :/

11:22 PM
@Mego CGI?

11:39 PM
Login is working again, now.

So how far off are we from the ability to post answers?

@ATaco You can post them they just don't show up anywhere yet

I'll see if I can't work on that.
