I'm sitting on the floor with my laptop on a small stool, which is definitely better than it being on the floor or a pile of pillows, but I need space for pen and paper too

@Zanna Stool is far better than mattresses or pillow. I've personally experienced that laptop becomes way too hot when I put them on latter. There is no scope for heat to dissipate there.

indeed, and my keyboard has become a bit resistant too so I need a hard surface to press the keys easily enough

these stools I bought are both useful and nice to look at... but I suppose an upturned bucket would do as good a job for this purpose!
