I managed yesterday to streamline an Ubuntu installation on my laptop so it uses less than 1 GB ram after fresh boot (gnome 3 installation)
951 MB in fact
a huge saver was disabling snapd service
and a few other things, makes my laptop with its dual core amd and only 3 GB ram run smoothly

wow that's impressive :)

was hell of a work and actually im looking into what more services i can kill to streamline it even further
I suspect that tracker-miner, tracker-extract and so on as well can be disabled without affecting the system stability
as far i found out you can even disable rsyslogd
but then you only have the systemd journal

10:10 AM
which needs configuring :)

yeah i will find out, i got an old ssd asa gift from fabby and using this on my laptop now, and i wanted the same look and feel as my main pc
so gnome it is and 18.04
but if you going to install normally it is eating ram like mad and if you only have 3 GB total it gets to swapping real fast
thats the reason i streamlined it, its actuall more an experiment
