@Zanna I made major changes to the post since showing you the draft, most of which were either motivated by your input or figured out by discussing them with you. In particular, Perl's behavior of being willing to treat barewords as string literals when strict "subs" is not enabled is central to the post, and I'd be doing readers a severe disservice if I passed that off as either (a) normal for programming languages or (b) weird but only for an obscure technical reason.
The form that paragraph now takes, including my having added a version of the dog example to it, is entirely due to your having pointed out that it didn't make sense as I had written it. There is also the matter that I would probably never have posted it if you hadn't read (a version of) it over first, because it seemed to me that the whole thing was incomprehensible and of minimal value.

I read the version you posted :) but I haven't read it since then... (2 days ago I think, since I was happily preoccupied watching A Wrinkle in Time at the cinema and subsequently annoyingly preoccupied with being stuck in a broken down car for the whole of yesterday)
Therefore I lost track of site-time since I did nothing on the site
I'm happy you made the post and that my reading the draft of it was helpful :)

Yeah, I mean the version I was having great doubts about -- the one I pasted in here.
Broke down car? Oy!
I haven't seen the new A Wrinkle In Time movie. I've read the book several times. Did you find that the movie was good?

Mum's car. I don't drive. If I'd been on my own I might have passed the time on the site. Anyway, only had to wait 4 hours total to get picked up in the end. Could be worse

Were you able to do any Tamil reading during that time?

@EliahKagan I found the movie excellent! Very touching. The themes and characters were great. But those SF fans who refuse to tolerate unsciency stuff might find some parts objectionable haha. I tend to evaluate pop culture stuff from an ethical perspective and on that level it was 100% awesome
@EliahKagan Alas no :( my mum was upset about the car and other things so I had to give my attention to her
I generally refuse to leave the house without a book even if I don't plan on reading, in case of such disasters

interesting problem :) not sure I have time to work on it today

I don't think I understand what is being asked there.

@Zanna ...what do they want to be able to choose to delete?

the filename from the list I think?
