@AdmBorkBork I found a new let's player that I really like. Mathas Gaming. He's a little smaller, 200k subs. So far I've only watched his hollow Knight series, but that's been pretty good and he has a great selection of game from the thumbnails I've seen.
I'm probably going to watch his series on frostpunk since I'm really interested in that game but I don't know much about the gameplay
@MartinEnder in regards to Gloomhaven: How much of a Eurogame is it?
I know the rules are complicated, and I can handle complicated rules, but when I was on Gloomhaven's website, the author said that he loves Terra Mystica
and it says "Euro-inspired tactical combat"
My biggest complaint with TM is simply all of the disjoint mechanics that are operating at the same time (religion, building, round bonuses, etc). Is Gloomhaven the same wy?
Gloomhaven, from the very little I've played, is more akin to Descent or Dungeons & Dragons than a Eurogame. The tactical combat does have some Euro-style elements to it (like the waxing/waning Elemental Infusions), but it's a far cry from Castles of Burgundy or the like.
There are tons of minutia to keep track of, though. I expect to get more adept at that after a few playthroughs.
@AdmBorkBork when you say minutia, what do you mean? Is it like D&D, where you need to track health, how remaining spell slots you have, items & weight, and stuff like that?
The element infusion board is probably the most complicated part. There are certain cards you play that will "infuse" the battleground with an element (move it to the highest point on the track), and then other cards can "consume" that element (move it down one point) to do various special effects.
I don't think it is, really. The hard part comes from the fact that you're only allotted a certain amount of cards, and it's guaranteed that you'll lose at least one card everytime you cycle through your hand, so you have a very limited amount of time to complete the session. (If you don't have cards in your hand or discard pile, you're out of the scenario).
@AdmBorkBork I paid €200 and I still think that's worth it for the amount of stuff you get.
@NathanMerrill If I understand the question correctly, not much. There isn't a whole lot of independent goals to optimise at once. Usually, there's a single goal to complete the scenario, and the secondary goals are to get as much gold and money in the process, but since those are clearly secondary you don't have quite the trade-off dilemma you'll find in euros.
Also for the minutiae Adm mentioned, there's a really good app that helps with a lot of the bookkeeping (and also saves on setup/teardown time).
@MartinEnder Wow. Yeah, I agree you get a tremendous amount of stuff, but I don't know if you get $250 USD worth of stuff. That's a bit steep even for my splurging attitude.
