I started another play-through of Half-Life 2 over the weekend. My last time was probably three or four years ago. The story holds up remarkably well. The gameplay is still good, but I found myself having more fun shooting Combine than shooting zombies. There have been a few areas that are completely mystifying as to how to get to where to go next, even after several play-throughs. The physics, while great at the time, are really dated today. More to come after I've finished it (I'm about 3/4).

6:15 PM
Gravity Gun is still as fun as ever

@EricTressler oh is this your game?
apparently it is :) I'm already stuck in the fourth level
can someone maybe give me a hint?

8:48 PM
@AdmBorkBork Shooting combine is legit the best thing ever
@flawr I can if you give me a screenshot

9:41 PM
@DJMcMayhem thanks! this is it.
I don't see how you can continue from there without guessing.

well, does the 2 have any implications for flag placement around the 5?

@MartinEnder ah thanks! :)

@flawr that's why the level title is "You Never Have to Guess" -- you're not the first person to wonder if there's something wrong at that point

@EricTressler hehe I thought so, but couldn't find any spoilers anywhere:)
@EricTressler and I too hate the questionmarks :D

there's a commented video walkthrough on Steam: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1177190743
but I'd suggest asking for hints in here instead

9:48 PM
Yeah, I was debating whether to even mention the videos. I think hints from us will do a better job of helping while not simultaneously ruining the puzzles

@MartinEnder thanks, I hope I don't need that too many times:)
@MartinEnder @EricTressler Thanks, I probably will:) I'm currently at lvl 9, already seems quite hard.

@flawr IMO, It gets steadily harder up to around 40 where it mostly plateaus. Until 80-ish where it gets drastically harder

@DJMcMayhem Not sure I'm gonna play this game for that long O_o
@AdmBorkBork did you ever try Black Mesa?
@EricTressler Did you design all those levels "by hand" or did you write some programs to generate them?

10:05 PM
I designed them, but I wrote an algorithm to populate them with mines (mostly).

I had my brother try it a few days ago and he really liked how the game forced you to grow in bite-sized ways throughout the "tutorial" levels (though he didn't do level 10). He also commented on how each level seemed significantly harder than the last, which was also my experience. He was pretty impressed at how well-designed Tametsi was with regards to level placement and structure.

@El'endiaStarman thanks for sharing; feedback like that is the main thing I get out of working on the game
Why "tutorial", though?

11:59 PM
@EricTressler I don't quite remember if they were labeled as such in the game. In any case, they sure don't feel like a typical tutorial. Most game tutorials are easy and are just intended to teach you the controls/mechanics. Tametsi's tutorial does teach you its controls, but it's not easy. Each level after the first couple is a challenge.
