I've got an idea for a feature on the site (about which I am only being moderately facetious): if a user nominates a question for closure as a duplicate, and the question is later closed as a duplicate, then they are awarded 15 XPs (the equivalent of having their answer to the question accepted). They should also be awarded XP in the tag, moving them that much closer to possession of a tag-specific dupehammer.
Those with the dupehammer don't get the XPs. ;)

@XanderHenderson I'll just mention that you can find a bunch of posts on similar ideas on Meta Stack Exchange. For example, Reward finding duplicate questions - +10, +2, -5 or Give an incentive for finding duplicate questions.

@MartinSleziak Awesome! I love it when my ideas are unoriginal! It means that they might not be terrible. ;)

And quite a few other posts which gained a bit less attention: Reward <3k reputation users for finding duplicates or Reward duplicate closing: +5 for the first voter, etc.

Aw... declined. :(

By a quick search I did not find a post on this topic on Mathematics Meta. (Nor do I remember a question discussing this from the top of my head.)

@MartinSleziak Yeah, I didn't find anything there.
And I rarely use the main site, so the existence of the main meta is something I often forget.
