@Chippies no he'll be on Politics.SE
and then complain about unpatriotic downvoting

@Memor-X lol did this really happen?

@GodEmperorDune no but would you be surprised if it did?

@Memor-X nah because clearly downvotes are "uncivilized"

@Memor-X fake news, flagged and deported

Glad folks like this tweet! Please check out my piece today analyzing Trump’s actions and why I think they are the result of evil intent, not incompetence. https://www.salon.com/2018/06/25/is-donald-trump-truly-incompetent-not-half-as-much-as-liberals-hope/

It's so hilarious people are getting mad at corporations being corporations

@quartata well corporations are generally seen as greedy but what's funny is one businessman getting mad at another business for doing what he would have done

ooo
Apparently the ICE building in Portland?
It's owned by the city
Rented by the feds on some variety of conditional basis

gogo break the lease

@tedwheeler

surely part of the lease forbids the govt from doing war crimes on the property

I think it's crimes against humanity, not war crimes

We're suffering from a breakdown of democracy, not of civility, argues @michelleinbklyn https://nyti.ms/2yGXedt

3:17 AM
@GodEmperorDune but no, from what I understand, Ted wants to give an outward sense of not helping the feds out here while at the same time desiring a relatively quiet return to the status quo

@Unionhawk yeah I saw that leaked email

As one would expect from any sanctuary city that rents a building to ICE
Honestly

Hello! I'm taking off my news cap and putting on my socialism cap to present the following:
From Aug 10-12, we're hosting #RustBeltCon18 in Pgh, a convention of over 30 @DemSocialists chapters from across the region to share skills & support one another in our organizing. It'll cost some money to pull off. Can you chip in? https://www.gofundme.com/raise-for-rust-belt-conference

Cincinnati is roughly the southwest corner of this region, and pittsburgh is graciously hosting this conference, so any support is appreciated
I don't actually know what other chapters are included, the regions are not well defined (well I mean I assume someone has a list)
@Unionhawk reports are that this has settled
almost like they were just going for a warning shot, to the extent that the use of chemical weapons can be a warning shot

#SCOTUS upholds President Trump's travel ban in 5-4 decision
Supreme Court is ok with white supremacy too it seems
SOTOMAYOR & RBG GO THERE: Say travel ban was plainly motivated by Trump's anti-Muslim animus. Quotes from campaign speeches and all. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/17pdf/17-965_h315.pdf

@GodEmperorDune Daily reminder with every 5-4 decision that Republicans got away with straight-up stalling Obama's Supreme Court appointment.

I'm fucking embarrassed to be from this country.

afaik Janus will probably be happening today too
though that one was set in stone months ago

@Yuuki pretty much this
Fucking McConnell

@Unionhawk Is there some DSA general fund you'd recommend?

@GodEmperorDune If anything, this is going to be the one thing that'll be in every history book about this period in time.

@puzzlepiece87 there is a gofundme to pittsburgh there that will support this effort in particular

Congress just completely ignored the Constitution.

@Unionhawk I understand that. I'm asking if you all have a general fund that you think is well-used that I could donate to regularly.

no
lol
Technically National is a thing
and for $5 a month you can officially join dsa
but like
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

2:35 PM
Got it, I'll keep my eye on the individual efforts then.

noted retailer of centrist t-shirts DSA National

They also decided 5-4 that California can’t force the anti-choice bamboozle centers to have real information about abortion services, but Muslim ban is kinda sucking up the oxygen
Ugh what bullshit to wake up to

A lot of growing pains, I think, but at a certain point (now through 2019 convention) that doesn't really fly for me
2019 convention is going to be lit

/8 But the upshot is this: the majority says that the President of the United states can revile Muslims and say he wants to ban them, but as long as his law is facially neutral and someone can make up a neutral argument for it, it survives. /end

the slightly good thing that the muslim ban decision did was mention that korematsu (the decision which allowed the US to put the japanese into internment/concentration camps) was officially overturned and not allowed

2:40 PM
That reminds me I should check on the vote to send an internal letter to national about the national compassion fund that raised $200,000 and as far as I know has yet to be disbursed
to make sure there isn't like, a block vote from cville members or something

@GodEmperorDune small yay

@Yuuki i feel like this was done so the court could point to it and be "see i'm not racist, i did a good thing"

ok cool so far it's just "we aren't going to get answers from national" and such, which I think is likely, but we should at least make them not answer our questions

And now I see why you can't recommend

Like I said, 2019 convention is going to be lit
NPC recall, uh

abolish the NPC

Documentary on corporate tax evasion and the effects on the US economy.

idk what other resolutions are likely to come up
probably one to officially endorse bernie sanders for president nationally
from the Our Revolution types

> This documentary was mostly really well done but it's extremely frustrating that they destroy the entire message at the end by taking the responsibility off of government to fix the problem and saying that the 'greedy corporations' should just do the right thing and and just pay more, whatever that means.

Corporations absolutely love the 'evil greedy corporation' narrative because it makes the problem seem like it's a problem with the businesses and not with the government (and therefore that's where we should seek a solution) whereas the corporations know that regulation is the only way

@Unionhawk but then who will give quests?

2:44 PM

@Unionhawk I think you meant joe kennedy

@Yuuki good analysis

Kennedy/Biden 2020, double your joe

@Yuuki i mean this also seems like shortsighted thinking, because if corporations are bad and greedy then it should be no problem to pass harsh regulations preventing such things, right?

@quartata Honestly I would not be surprised if a particular caucus brings forward a resolution to endorse whoever the democratic nominee is
like, 100%
that is within the realm of possibility
I think such a resolution would get destroyed, however
yeah

2:47 PM
i think weve all come to terms with the fact that the 2020 nominee is probably going to blow

As it turns out, organizing is super complex because it involves a lot of people
with many different visions of how to do politics

@quartata I certainly have

warren is probably the best we can hope for, and thats pretty unlikely
it'll probably be Biden.....

I think warren could be good
I dunno
some people don't like her

I'd be okay with Warren too

2:49 PM
but

Warren, Harris, Booker are all my co-#1s
Booker's my favorite politician but everyone else doesn't like him so he won't get it

Like, I wouldn't be happy with pretty much anyone they nominate
but I'd be ok with some

I do not want any 2016 frontrunners

trying to think what we would do if we had president eric garland

You would get blocked by his Twitter account for sure

I'm reading Thomas' opinion in the crisis pregnancy center case, and the rationale is airtight: things five people on SCOTUS don't like are unconstitutional, but things exactly like those things are constitutional if something something 1787

big surprise
expecting the supreme court to be impartial in 2018

Republicans: "Justices should only interpret the Constitution within the text!"
Also Republicans: "Judicial activism is okay when we have the majority."

lol it looks like there are Joe Crowley signs illegally close to every NY14 polling site

@Exeggutor It's never too late to move to Canada! We could be Canadabros.
In fact there's a Google office in Toronto I think, you could just transfer there!

Uhhh trying to give props to the farmers by lamenting a Monsanto R&D loss is mmm
The whole section is actually about trade warring with China and nothing to do with farmers themselves, lol
Reality Winner, a former NSA contractor, formally entered her guilty plea in court in Augusta, GA. Agreement is for 63 months in prison, 3 years supervised release

3:35 PM
@TimStone Seems like a straightforward theft case (taking seeds from a farmer's cornfield) because I think reverse-engineering isn't illegal by any means.

mm it probably is in this instance somehow but yeah it doesn't make sense
My mistake was mentioning Sonny Perdue the other day so naturally he's appeared to say something dumb
It's a patent violation/IP theft situation mostly which I doubt any farmer actually gives af about except for the fact they got screwed by Monsanto and China didn't

@Wipqozn there's one in Kitchener as well! Lower cost of living, more rivers, right next to Guelph

3:55 PM
Jesus fucking christ
Hearing that Team @JoeCrowleyNY is taking our campaign posters, affixing them to trees, and then reporting them to @NYCSanitation to fine us. They are trying to ratchet us into $10k worth of fines. If you see anyone affixing our posters illegally, STOP THEM and take a photo.

@GodEmperorDune Larian: Good quest design means you can finish the quest even if you kill almost any NPC.

@puzzlepiece87 I'm not sure if you can call Bethesda's recent offerings as "good quest design".
"Another settlement needs your attention."

4:12 PM
@Yuuki I think Larian would argue that's more of a Bethesda quest design problem than a NPC problem.

Trying to remember another game where you can kill like every NPC.

@Yuuki That's neither Larian nor Bethesda, or just not Bethesda?
Also, I think but can't say for sure that you can do that in Spiderweb Software RPGs?
@Yuuki You know who Larian is, right? Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2?

> Medium- to higher-wage workers and diabolically anti-union employer .... Includes most private sector employees, ...
:(

I actually haven't played Divinity.

@Yuuki I haven't played D:OS yet but that's on me, they're very well-reviewed.
@Yuuki Out of the 4 principal RPGs that came out of Kickstarter's prime (Wasteland, Pillars, D:OS, and ... what was the other one...

4:16 PM
Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Shadowrun
Out of those 4, the general consensus among my friends was that all were at least good and D:OS was #2 behind Pillars
If you like RPGs, you should probably give it a spin
@Yuuki This is in my backlog

I have Pillars but haven't really messed with it.
I also only played Tyranny for like 30 minutes.

What have you been playing instead? (so I can judge you)
(So you can judge me) I've recently been playing Homefront: The Revolution, Minecraft, and Mad Max
I was also pleasantly surprised to see that Dontnod's (Life is Strange) newest, The Amazing Adventures of Captain Spirit, is actually free

As far as all games go: Hyrule Warriors, Mario Tennis, Jurassic World Evolution, World of Warcraft, Rainbow 6 Siege.
Actually not a lot of RPGs.

Oh okay, you're probably never going to get to them then

4:21 PM
The last RPG I really played the heck out of was Atelier Lydie & Suelle and Xenoblade 2.

Not only are you multi-platforming, you're also AAAing hard.

A worker must have bread, but he must also have video games - rosa luxemburg

Indeed, slot it into the next negotiations

Kinda slowing down on World of Warcraft though because I've got level-capped characters and the new expansion isn't for another month or so.
And so there's no motivation to push content because the current gear treadmill is just going to get slashed and burned with the new xpac.

Indeed, who has time to play indie RPGs when you're working two jobs? xD

4:23 PM
Rainbow 6 is pretty much only played with friends.
@puzzlepiece87 Yeah, progression raiding is a hell of a thing.
It's why I'm rolling DPS this xpac, so I can feel less guilty about skipping raids when I feel like doing something else.
I used to be one of the guild's two tanks and it ended up burning me out halfway through this current expansion.

I think The Bridge is leaking

Makes sense, good for you making that decision
I'm playing Homefront/Mad Max/Minecraft on hardcore, that's my self-punishment, I like a challenge so I start over when I die.

@SaintWacko I mean I can tie this back to capitalism being bad or some shit it's fine

@Unionhawk Haha

@SaintWacko I blame lack of investment in infrastructure.

4:26 PM
there is no ethical consumption of video games under capitalism

@SaintWacko Just link a tweet to dystopia and we'll be back to morosity in no time xD

> Trump: "We're going to rebuild our infrastructure."
Also Trump: "F--k kids."
Also also Trump: "No literally, f--k kids."

@Unionhawk @Yuuki looool nice from both of you

I mean, if we actually re-invest significant capital into infrastructure, I'd be super happy.
@puzzlepiece87 I mean, he has on record barged into a Miss America changing room to basically leer at the contestants.

That does remind me I should probably push Blood Sweat and Pixels up in my queue considering it's a library book that I've renewed like three times
but I am slow

4:28 PM
@Yuuki Was referring to the infrastructure joke

Laughing in This Is Fine is probably off-topic or something.

jokes are illegal

Using the term "off-topic" is off-topic

@Yuuki @Unionhawk Depends on who's doing the laughing.
You or I, no. Obama or Tim Stone 2020, laughing is news.

oh boy square enix just emailed me to tell me that i can dress like a prince or princess.

4:30 PM
@puzzlepiece87 Man I wish we could have Obama back

You know what? I'm content that he's gone. Clearly the job was terrible and I just want him to be happy.

@SaintWacko Sooooooo everything's currently shitty and Obama would be a massive improvement over that, buttttttt the Democratic party has been forced way left since his time and I'd prefer to have someone that at least pays lip service to abolish ICE, stop the drone madness, doesn't insist on prosecuting Snowden, etc.

I mean, he had sorta paid lip service to stopping drone madness by literally telling Congress to stop him.
But you know, Republicans love bombing.

@Yuuki Boooooo, no one was forcing Obama to do drones.

I mean, that's literally "lip service".

4:34 PM
He literally would not have even needed an EO to do that.

Actually, the Republicans got the best of both worlds there

@Yuuki Technically correct: the best kind of correct.

They got to complain about what the president with a different skin color was doing AND other people with a different skin color were getting blown up! Win/win!

Did they ever complain about drones? I never heard anything about drones except from Democratic representatives.

I...'m not sure they were the ones primarily doing the complaining about the second one

4:36 PM
Oh no, those were two different things
They were very much only complaining about the first one

WTB a president whose most serious scandal in the first 100 days was mustard
Actually, was that in the first 100 days?

I mean alternatively WTB one with good politics but /shrug
oH NO
dude

@Unionhawk Technically, you wouldn't be able to buy one with good politics.
As presidents with good politics wouldn't be able to be bought.
(English?)

4:53 PM
@Unionhawk wuh

Dr. Prof. Jordan B. Peterson is coming to Cincinnati lol

show him my tweets

Tickets starting at $38
but going all the way up to $103

lmao

it is not clear to me what tier 1 tickets get you

4:55 PM
imagine paying $69 to have someone tell you that postmodernist criticism is anti-white

oh, I think I see?

when you could go onto /pol/ with a text to speech for free

$38 for balcony, $58 for loge, $103 for orchestra?
the tiers don't correspond to the seating chart in any real way other than there are 4 sections

how appropriate that it's like a play
a farce perhaps

I mean it's at a theater so
the tickets are labeled just tier 1 through 3
lmao Fox has had a guy at the Red Hen since Monday apparently
they're closed mondays
and are only open for dinner
great stuff doug
there's nobody there, it's just him
I guess they assumed there would be some horde

love to be an opposition party

these guys are going to lose every seat in 2018
love to spend time on this shit, at all

On the one hand, I get that there's this justification that they don't want to look like jerks before the mid-terms. On the other hand, I don't want to live in a country where some people legitimately think voters will forgive literally everything the administration has done because some official got kicked out of a restaurant.

@Yuuki i don't get why dems are worried about this when republicans will literally not hold town meetings because they are scared of consituents and trump is calling out specific people and companies nearly every day
maybe the left will be civil when the trump admin stops being monstrous assholes

8:09 PM
no

@GodEmperorDune Honestly, because this country has demonstrably shown that the voting population holds Democrats and Republicans to different standards.

to be clear

@Yuuki and that's bullshit

Oh, it's definitely bullshit.

The democrats are just unwilling to fight for people.
it's not complicated
one might be tempted to think a lot of high level democrats and the associated cloud of consultants and foundations and think tanks only care about keeping their jobs and protecting their friends and keeping their donors happy and looking principled and you'd probably be right

8:12 PM
that tweet is why I posted it here naturally

@Unionhawk its that the dem politicans (and sadly many dem voters) are too hung up on potentially losing their own privilege to want to put it on the line for anyone else's

yep
we do not have a party in this shitty country that cares about working people

And also, it does not seem like working people even care about working people.

i mean,,, i would normally joke about the peace and freedom party
But wasn't Roseanne their candidate

and dems somehow have their heads in the sand that trump will blow over after so many years and they'll be left standing and that scenario is definitely not guaranteed

8:13 PM
@Yuuki I mean it doesn't matter because neither party does

@quartata iirc it was before she went alex jones

"I won't kill you but I don't have to save you" vs culture wars stuff

@quartata Love too be so bad at your job that you can't even pivot the conversation back to ripping kids apart from families.

@GodEmperorDune >implying people change

to say that "people are voting against their interests" implies that anyone in establishment politics cares about anyone's interests

8:15 PM
"I can see why a lot of people are so upset about ICE ripping kids away from their mothers at the border - it's monstrous." That's literally all you had to say Chuck.

other than the donor class

@quartata ehhh most of the third parties have candidates that are pretty far from the mainstream

@quartata If you've seen that documentary by that kid on her father being slowly propagandized by Fox News and talk radio, people can definitely change.
And change drastically.

Can't even say "gently admonish ICE"

Unfortunately, it does seem that that change is by and large typically for the worse.

8:16 PM
@quartata So bad at job

i liked some of jill stein's stuff but a doctor cozying up to antivaxxers... declaring that trump and hillary were the same, ... its too much

@Yuuki when it comes to racism I'm inclined to believe most people have it internalized to some extent, and it's always there

@GodEmperorDune And making strong Russian appearances.

@puzzlepiece87 at the time i thought that was dumb but not as deeply problematic as other things. in hindsight, yep

The problem is that Jill Stein and Gary Johnson were barely anything more than single-issue candidates. And if you've seen their interviews, they didn't even know their own single issues that well either.

8:18 PM
@Yuuki there are some former white supremacists doing great work to try and pull other people out of the movement
@Yuuki yeah john oliver did a good segment on this

@GodEmperorDune Agreed.

ah yes, exactly what i need, an explainer on big dick energy. thanks promoted tweets
and i think i ended up on some sort of blocklist, because i'm being blocked by people i never interacted with. weird

8:54 PM
and of course while the left debates whether we should be civil or not, the right debates whether actual civil war is necessary or not
The LEFT DECLARED WAR on AMERICA. Ask Steve Scalise. War was necessary to FREE THE COLONIES. War was necessary to FREE THE SLAVES. A fight might be necessary to SAVE THIS REPUBLIC from the LEFT. It's NOT what I want but OH WELL. FOUNDERS & LINCOLN didn't want it either but had to

@GodEmperorDune The left calls out people refusing service at restaurants, the right is perfectly okay with running people over with your car.
@GodEmperorDune ... huh?
Is he saying the Civil War was about slavery?

@Yuuki ikr
its not verified, so not sure if this is a parody account but it has about a million followers and trash in the mentions so it seemed legit

Tough words from VP Pence in Brasilia today: He told Latin American nations: "Just as the United States Respects Your Borders and Your Sovereignty, We Insist That You Respect Ours."
lmfao

Maybe it's because I know some relevant history, but "SAVE THE REPUBLIC" reminds me of Cuba, Iran, and China.
Except word-swap "republic" with "revolution".

@TimStone lololololol

8:58 PM
Oh and France.

love to own goal during the world cup

@GodEmperorDune I'm pretty sure it is? He got unverified after he was hacked I think and it was funny

@TimStone That's just...
@GodEmperorDune Look, if the US team isn't going to play, then the administration will have to pick up the slack.

Somewhere Kissinger choked briefly on a roll as he felt a disturbance in the force

@TimStone maybe this means they don't want regular people from latin america to come in, only spies, assassins, and elite military units designed to destablize the govt and support a military coup?

9:01 PM
@TimStone when have we ever respected borders

@quartata before they went bankrupt
they were a decent place to get books

nice

i actually have a bookcase I snagged from a closing Borders

@puzzlepiece87 This basically eliminated us from World Cup qualification

> It’s a country whose law enforcement officials (and school administrators) generally have very few qualms about enforcing arbitrary, unjust, or downright stupid rules, because The Rules Are The Rules.
Yup, that's my country

I didn't know you lived in america

> It was written by a socialist
@Unionhawk Everything you've ever known has been a lie.

steve king has literally sorry not sorryed
Steve King explains his retweet of a message by a Nazi sympathizer. He told me it was unintentional because he didn't know who the person was. But he's not sorry and won't delete the tweet, and supports the message in tweet railing on mass immigration http://www.cnn.com/2018/06/26/politics/steve-king-retweet-nazi-sympathizer/index.html

@GodEmperorDune See Chuck, you can literally get by never apologizing for **** but you're going after Maxine Waters, and again, you had one job: return the conversation to kids being ripped away from mothers.
You're a failure in this regard, Chuck. Colossal.

9:20 PM
Abolish everything. The House, the Senate, the Presidency, the Supreme Court, let's just live in Mad Max World.
I'm sure we'd be better off.
It's terrible that even I can't tell whether this is sarcasm or not.

My current support for abolition of things is trending towards everything, yes.
It used to be nothing, now it's some of the things.

can anyone explain to me why (mass) immigration is considered a bad thing?

He discussed his immigration views. "I want to see the American civilization strengthened," King said. "That means we are a Judeo-Christian country..." Immigrants need to embrace "Americanism" and "not create enclaves in America that are the antithesis of Americanism."
Because Steve King is racist.

in my mental utopia, there would be no borders and everyone could live and work wherever they want
if there's no jobs where you live, you can move to a different "country'
keeping people from immigrating just seems counter productive to everyone

@Chippies because people are racist

9:25 PM
@GodEmperorDune okay, so I'm not just being oblivious here

and are concerned that whites' place at the top of society is in danger

yes, the immigrants are taking the jobs we didn't want to begin with, oh no

oh noes, immigrants are taking over our culture. Well, maybe if you put spices in your food...

taking over culture is something I don't get either, but I know all of the internet is against it

i can't speak for canada or other countries, but in the US the people who are afraid of immigration are specifically afraid of black and brown people immigrating. There is not a ban on people from the EU coming over, there is a ban on people coming from the middle east and africa, as well as lock ups of people coming from latin america
i agree that change is hard, but i'm sorry old white men, time to GTFO and you can go peaceably or be dragged kicking and screaming.

9:32 PM
@GodEmperorDune well, I was in Ottawa and I think I saw more non-white people than I saw white people, so I guess at least some areas don't mind it :P
my only issue was, and that is a personal problem, I found some of the people hard to understand, because they had strong accents

@Chippies Tell them to go easier on the hair dye.

but I also have trouble understanding some of the bay area accents in Newfoundland and they're all white people :P
@Yuuki I am replying to let you know that the joke has been acknowledged

@Chippies the fact that you realize that this is a thing you personally have to work on is what makes the difference

we can't all look and sound the same and I guess some people don't want to understand that

@GodEmperorDune Also, let it be said that this sentiment is strongest among people who don't have to deal with immigrants at all. Can't be said enough. In places that actually have immigrants, people are much more chill about it.

@puzzlepiece87 yes, though that gets more into that fox news and right wing radio have painted black and brown immigrants as a scapegoat for all the things wrong in rural america

@puzzlepiece87 I'm just going to handwave this fact away with good old fashioned traditional leftist infighting

@puzzlepiece87 Welcome to Texas, where those of us in the southern part of the state couldn't really give a fig about immigration enforcement and all the crazy people live in the panhandle.

@Yuuki my favorite thing is learning about the texas towns that literally straddle both sides of the border, so people used to cross the border to run errands or visit family
i think there is an indigenous reservation that still does this

@GodEmperorDune ye, they actually have special permission to cross freely

@puzzlepiece87 I think a lot of that is fear of the unknown

It doesn't excuse it, but it does explain a lot in my encounters with people

because it's their sovereign land

@Ash And blameshifting, but yes, you're right :)

user15026
@puzzlepiece87 yes, that too

even though it's also completely stolen still in the context of "there is still a '''national border''' in the middle of it"

@Unionhawk yep
i mean if you want to get pedantic about it, technically the reservations are sovereign nations and therefore the US border runs right up to the rez, then around the north side of the rez, then reconnects to the mexico border on the other side

good thing not getting pedantic about it benefits colonizers :)
and is also how it's implemented in practice

colonizers can go in the sea
(from whence they came, actually)
speaking of colonizers
