@Unionhawk i thought that was a soyboi thing

@GodEmperorDune Guy agrees to plea deal, immediately breaches it by continuing the same behaviour.
Does he think he's smarter than the investigators or something?

@Frank he is addicted to CRIMES, i guess

@Frank naaa, he's expecting Trump to pardon him of all said crimes
> Manafort: ok i agree to talk for a plea deal but then Trump wont pardon me, so i'll cover him with lies so he knows i'm still on his side so even if the plea deal is broken he'll still pardon me

@Memor-X That's some twisty thinking.

12:16 AM
@GodEmperorDune wait what
@Unionhawk lol

@TimStone yo dawg, i heard you like CRIMES so i have broken my plea agreement to do CRIMES in the middle of CRIMES

BREAKING VIDEO: 1 dead, 6 others seriously injured when minivan mounts curb in Chinatown. via @MylesMill https://t.co/Uj7kiBEnyA
Apparently a parallel park job gone horribly wrong? :/
Fascinating story about a federal agency that is down to its last employee, who writes reports no one reads and waits for decisions no one can make, because the Trump administration is neglecting to operate significant portions of the federal government. https://apnews.com/edd1f5eaca37478abb79ed5f9eedb0b9

@TimStone oh the video is of the aftermath, not of the incident

(not entirely on Trump, but a culture of not caring)
@GodEmperorDune Ah yeah, somehow I didn't even realize it was a video

> That’s a problem for the federal workers and whistleblowers whose 1,000-plus grievances hang in the balance, stalled by the board’s inability to settle them. When Robbins’ term ends on March 1, the board probably will sit empty for the first time in its 40-year history.
you'd think that trump would be excited to fill all the spots with federalist society peeps
and the first appointment was up in 2015, so that's on obama for not filling it
ah and trump has nominated people and they don't want to schedule senate votes, so that's cocaine mitch's problem

Donald Trump says he doesn't believe his own government's report warning about climate change http://bit.ly/2Bz6Vdt

Labor says the government is taking too long to protect gay students - so they'll do it themselves #auspol http://bit.ly/2KzH7kp
tldr, private faith based schools want to preserve their religious freedom to discriminate against LGBTI students and teachers
i want to say let them so people can see what pricks these schools are but i don't know why a gay student or teacher would want to go to a school who's faith is against who they are.

@Student because their parents make them

user15026
@Memor-X They don't get a choice?

user15026
Their parents choose, it's the only/best/safest school, etc etc etc etc

yeh, maybe i'm more thinking of a parent who is more supportive for their child and would not want them to be discriminated against
but certainly there would be parents who even if their child came out would ignore it or even think they can "fix it"

@Ash you know he was going to say that after last week saying "i want great climate, we're going to have the best climate"

Speaking about his Cabinet, President Trump says, "I could leave it the way it is right now and be very happy, or I could make changes and maybe be even happier with those positions.”
🤷

@Memor-X One week later "Well done folks, we have the best climate now! Let's get back to ruining it!"

Oh god that's not even a joke we probably are in the realm of "we have great air, clean air, some people might say too clean, but what can you do?"

@SaintWacko a sound strategy, you can have endless iteration of marking it as an achievement when you clean it up
Election Year: we have horrible climate, only my climate can fix it
Mid Terms: we have great climate!

Fake snow falls on Trump. He marvels at it and swats it away in dramatic fashion. He begins, "Look, snow, I didn't know what was going on, this is, I said, are you sure this is indoor, that beautiful snow looks so real, that's the end of my suit, that's the end of my hair..."

Yeah ur right dude supporting a right wing coup absolutely worked in Honduras and definitely did not contribute to the current situation

Jury selection is going slowly in the trial of James Fields Of 17 jurors sent home from the courthouse, 13 have been struck, 4 told to report back

"having exhausted all other options" idk man have you considered negotiating with the workers regarding their safety demands

Yeah I've already angried at my MP about this
Which he's going to ignore just like everything else, but

@Memor-X Missing are the words "after he was thrown into a wood chipper".

I'm terrified of the next federal election but I look forward to voting against him

3:01 PM
I want to know what options they exhausted
1) politely asking workers to not
2) welp we're out of ideas

3:19 PM
Is there a think of the children take about Christmas present delivery?

justin trudeau just cares about children too much to give in to the demands (like I said, afaik, safety demands) of the workers
who knows though, illegal didn't stop teachers in WV
@Unionhawk jury selection day 2 is under way, will likely take all day again

I'm a little leery of the details here, but
Manafort held secret talks with Assange in Ecuadorian embassy https://trib.al/7FgHDm8

How does one do anything in secret at the ecuadorian embassy

I mean I assume at the time they were like "idgaf" and then they retreated to Assange's pantry under the stairs
But yeah I'm just not sure all the claims make sense? We'll see
I've been writing about the opioid epidemic all year, so when I saw that the number of overdose deaths in Dayton had plunged, I was really curious as to why. I went to visit and asked lots of people about it: https://nyti.ms/2zs9w7P

The entire detainment system is a clusterfuck and I’m sure there are horrific stories that haven’t even come out yet

@TimStone I’d say no except that people are dumb enough to go on, so....

@Unionhawk Yup I hate this. I suspect the Supreme Court is going to slap them for it just like they did when the Conservatives tried the same thing a few years ago. The liberals claim their bill is different, but they haven't clarified how... Odd, that.

💛 We are sad to share the news of the passing of Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants. Today, we are observing a moment of silence to honor his life and work. 💛
:(

Oh wow, I didn't know he had ALS

The most insulting part, and you'll just looove this @Unionhawk, is after announcing they planned to go this the liberals said they didn't want neither the company or union to cease finding A settlement on their own. Except uh, exactly why would Canada post bother if you're just going to end it in their favour anyways?

@Wipqozn lol
It's almost like,,, the conservatives and the liberals are on the same side wrt labo(u)r
:thonk:

6:42 PM
@Unionhawk Yup, at least at the federal level, the NDP is the only party that's really got workers rights as their top priority.

@TimStone same

Or at least, there is some unspecified difference that is probably not real
they probably waited longer to do this,

@Unionhawk In this case both the liberal and conservatives agreed "This is a good thing. A real big good thing."
NDP objected, but when you've only got a minority of the seats then you can't do much but object.

There was a meeting yesterday between @GM CEO and @larry_kudlow, he confirms, saying "we are going to be looking at certain subsidies regarding electric cars."
Ah, well, I'm sure propping up the President's bullshit with never ending subsidies will definitely not backfire ever

@TimStone yay for leaving the free market alone... oh wait

6:45 PM
Liberals and conservatives both talked about this is important to help small business owners, which yeah okay I'm 100% in favour of helping small local businesses, but not at the expense of workers rights. Also, I somehow suspect it's not small businesses you're most concerned with...

Yeah, there's the compromise position: meet the demands of the workers 100% and help small business by ending the strike that way
bam
compromise

The Proud Boys have new rules: no fedoras, no crystal meth, and even less masturbating. https://www.thedailybeast.com/new-proud-boy-rules-less-fighting-less-wanking

wasn't the rule on #3 there already 0

Apparently only if you were a "third degree" Proud Boy and no I have no god damn idea what that means
Now the rule applies to them all!

I forget what 3 is...

Once per month quota
> The Proud Boys rules also include new restrictions on members’ behavior. Proud Boys are banned from using opioids or crystal meth—although notably not cocaine, a drug McInnes has often extolled. Also now banned: wearing flip flops, fedoras, or cargo shorts to a Proud Boys meet-up
lol

> Invictus, who said in the video that his toddler son was now the Proud Boys’ chief of staff...

@TimStone yeah i was gonna quote this because whew

6:59 PM
To be clear: I am making no part of that up, the only thing that is uncertain is if fighting people is third or fourth degree

I mean I hate these people for being racist misogynistic assholes but also just on how dumb those two sentences are alone

@Unionhawk it was fourth
> “No heterosexual brother of the Fraternity shall masturbate more than one time in any calendar month,” the new rule reads, adding later, “All members shall abstain from pornography.”

ah, 3 is a gang tattoo

> “The days of Proud Boy cuckery are over,” Invictus said.

Hmm?
The tweet is RE: The Guardian reporting Manafort met Assange, if that's what you mean

As someone who supplemented their discouragement of a friend's idea to join the Armed Forces with strong warnings regarding the high rates of brain damage/mental health issues, I'd have to include the same warnings for graduate programs. Not an absolute recommendation against, but certainly a discouragement against enrolling casually.
(My friend did not join the Armed Forces)

@puzzlepiece87 I'd imagine it's the same with any constantly high-pressure situation.
The mind isn't built to deal with a constant level of background stress.

@Yuuki Agreed.
(Upcoming quote from different article)
Not letting me post it.
> That colleges and universities have turned more and more of their frontline employees into part-time contractors suggests how far they have drifted from what they say they are all about (teaching students) to what they are increasingly all about (conducting research, running sports franchises, or, among for-profits, delivering shareholder value).

S H A R E H O L D E R V A L U E

The "running sports franchises" bothers me a lot, having gone to school at OU.
For context, OU has a very big football program.
I definitely recall stories of stagnant salaries and cuts to department funding so the head coach could get another raise.

10:43 PM
@Yuuki not to mention the labor involved. a lot of academia is about making grad students do heavy lifting at absolutely shit pay (or no pay) because "that's how it's always been" and it's clearly an abusive system

@TimStone they've been stocking up on ski masks...

depending on your advisor it can go from just physical labor or emotionally abusive to sexual harassment and worse

@Yuuki Oklahoma university?

Ten sexual assaults per month. Ten. Per month.https://www.wkrn.com/news/tennessee-news/fort-campbell-averaging-10-reports-of-sexual-assault-a-month/1594985488
onebox doesn't show the story embed, but the title is "Fort Campbell averaging 10 reports of sexual assault a month"

@William It's weird. It's "The University of Oklahoma" but everyone just calls it OU for short.

my other cousin went to OU

@Memor-X 51. Yeh, not so substantial. However, the GOP will no longer need to heavily rely on moderates like Murkowski and Collins to vote on {insert judicial nominee or legislation}

they still live in oklahoma

@GodEmperorDune Completely unrelated, but I would caution against reacting to pure numbers. IIRC, Sweden has much higher numbers of sexual assault per capita than many developed nations but they have different standards regarding sexual assault reporting.
For one, the bar's a lot lower, IIRC, as to what constitutes sexual assault. For two, for sexual assault occurring between partners, each instance is counted as sexual assault as opposed to one count for the entire history.

@Yuuki yeah the article sort of goes into how the absolute number is not the whole picture but it's still pretty fuct

user15026
10:52 PM
@Yuuki As it should be, I think - each of those is separate and should be. Just because it's the same person, doesn't chang the gravity of it occuring

Definitely, but as a result, Sweden (I think it's Sweden?) has much higher numbers of sexual assault if you completely ignore the nuance.

11:06 PM
Sen. Chuck Schumer tells reporters at his on-cam presser that Democrats’ position is $1.6 billion for wall funding - far less than the $5 billion Trump wants - but he won’t say if Democrats are shutting the door on anything more, saying he’s not going to negotiate in public.
Cuck Schumer, wyd

@GodEmperorDune Love to repeatedly make concessions for nothing

@puzzlepiece87 seriously, just start negotiations from "abolish and prosecute ICE and CBP at the hague, open borders" and take it from there
