I am cleaning up a couple of stars. As a reminder, please reserve stars for news items as mentioned in the room topic.

@murgatroid99 Thanks for that. Never be shy about clearing out stars on non-news items. Same goes for the room owners.
Oh right the only non-mod room owner is @Yuuki anyways,
so same goes for all @Yuuki's

In addition to Whitaker’s $1.2 million personal haul, he may have violated the Hatch Act by taking donations from three politically connected Iowa donors to his senate campaign earlier this year while he was working at DoJ. ⁦@kenvogel⁩ and me https://nyti.ms/2DzffeF?smid=nytcore-ios-share
His senate campaign. In 2014

@TimStone the veinsssssss

I mean I dunno about the Hatch Act but I feel like it at least violates the "You better have a time machine because that shit ended four years ago" rule

What a start to Thanksgiving week for Leader Pelosi. Tim Ryan/Moulton wing continues to struggle to recruit a challenger. And Ocasio-Cortez knocks that wing, lifting Pelosi w/ left. Big donors are calling members on her behalf. Obama heaps praise on her. Fudge drops & endorses.
Who could have foreseen this coming?
Narrator who is just Pelosi: *sly shrug*
Oh, Mia Love actually lost?
That brings the House count up to +39

@TimStone The fact that her opponents have yet to select a challenger rankles me a lot.

3:23 AM
They probably know they're gonna lose now so no one wants to become the figurehead

It screams of change for change's sake.

It would appear AMLO got a big honking assist from the federal judge overseeing El Chapo’s trial in Brooklyn today. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/20/nyregion/el-chapo-jury-hears-about-bribes-to-mexicos-public-security-secretary.html

Oil prices getting lower. Great! Like a big Tax Cut for America and the World. Enjoy! $54, was just $82. Thank you to Saudi Arabia, but let’s go lower!
🤔

Upset by Trump's Iran waivers, Saudis push for deep oil output cut: "The Saudis are very angry at Trump. They don’t trust him any more and feel very strongly about a cut. They had no heads-up about the waivers" https://reut.rs/2FowzWs
@GodEmperorDune Surprisingly good turn of events, huh

Texans for Vaccine Choice, a group focused on anti-vaccine policy, says it has received hundreds of calls and emails from parents of children without vaccines who were rejected by private child care facilities. They're trying to end those denials. https://bit.ly/2Q8Km7v
Oh, oh, I know this one! You can end the denials by getting your damn kids vaccinated

1 hour later…
3:36 PM
@TimStone Spoken like someone who only cares about himself and, being a New York native, has no involvement in oil production.
Unless the low oil prices are sustained for quite sometime, Houston should be fine though.

3:51 PM
@TimStone the problem is that the way the vaccine schedule is set up is so you get specific vaccines at specific ages, and once you start messing around with the age you get the vaccines, the vaccines don’t work as well
Iirc there is a standard schedule and like a catch up schedule but it’s not like you can take all the missing vaccines at once and be fine
@TimStone oil embargoes are so easy to win

@GodEmperorDune An oil embargo would raise the price of oil.
Current falling prices are associated with a glut of American-produced shale oil, instability in the Middle East, other countries lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and coming down from a recent artificial price hike (or production halt, I can't remember) from Saudi Arabia.

@Yuuki right and that would make almost everything cost more to cover transportation costs, but also stimulates growth in the oil industry to open up new wells and do things like fracking

Whoops, thought you were replying to the Trump tweet about low oil prices.

No worries
Minor correction on the vaccine thing, there is no official alternative schedule, just the regular schedule and anything else is untested

@GodEmperorDune Oh, yeah, which is why you shouldn't try to avoid getting your kids vaccinated for non-medically justified reasons to begin with

4:07 PM
Yep the safest thing to do here is get the damn vaccines unless your kid literally cannot handle it because of allergies or compromised immunity or whatnot
I think the only vaccine we skipped with my daughter was her first flu shot because it was July and the shot was for the previous season
And we got the new season’s one a few months later

@GodEmperorDune Bonus points if it turns out that the unnamed slaughterhouses gifted Sonny Perdue something recently
We haven't really heard much about him recently until he decided to use "cotton-picking" the other day, so it's about time

> rosecutors, however, have decided not to charge Warren, 41, with a crime. He did not intend to kill Magnuson and acted in self-defense during the Sept. 26 incident, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said in a memo released Monday.

Magnuson’s death from the fall was precipitated by “extremely poor health,” a medical examiner concluded, and the punch itself was not fatal, Senior Deputy District Attorney Adam Gibbs wrote.

Warren was within his legal right to challenge Magnuson’s “racist vitriol,” Gibbs noted, and said that Warren’s decision to confront Magnuson — rather than

@GodEmperorDune interesting how the fox news headline leaves off that the guy throwing racist slurs also threw the first punch
no mention of the punch until the 4th paragraph

Just 37 per cent of Canadians surveyed looked at the U.S. with admiration, according to new research from Environics Institute, which has been tracking Canadian public opinion since 1976.: globalnews.ca/news/4684301/canada-public-opinion-america
> Their survey shows that while more than a third of Canadians view the U.S. favourably, that drops to just 13 per cent when it comes to how they see Trump.
> It’s Canadian’s lowest overall opinion of the U.S. on record, down from peak admiration at 83 per cent in 1983.
> Notably, admiration for the country at large cut across party lines. In the 1983 Focus Canada survey, Conservatives felt the most positive (87 percent), but solid majorities of Liberals (82 percent) and New Democrats (71 percent) also admired the US. America in 1983 gave the world “Billie Jean” and The Return of the Jedi. It also declared a national holiday to recognize the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
Interestingly the first major drop happened in 2002, the first year after bush was president

@Wipqozn return of the jedi was fun

@GodEmperorDune but the ewoks
I'm curious what the party divide would look like now
because that was really close back in the 80s

CENSUS CASE UPDATE: 2nd Circuit denies a stay of the trial proceedings in the Census citizenship question challenge in a brief order, meaning DOJ likely will go to SCOTUS seeking a similar stay soon.

8:27 PM
@Wipqozn ewoks were great tho
@TimStone wasn't the judge pissed that they asked for a stay already and were denied already like 2 weeks ago?

That was the District Court judge
This is the Appeals Court affirming his ruling

ah
thanks DOJ for wasting my taxpayer money on the same damn thing, over and over

But yeah, he was like "wtf" and contemplated aloud that such nonsense might be sanctionable
So now it'll go to SCOTUS, presumably
Who already denied a motion to stop the case
And would be asked now to stop the judge from finishing said case they had no interest in stopping

@TimStone i guess it comes down to JK
"also we included some coupons for beer with our paperwork" ... "motion granted"

Thank god I didn't buy a fancy IoT CPAP machine.

> When his doctor prescribed a CPAP, the company that supplied his device, At Home Medical, told him he needed to rent the device for $104 a month for 15 months. The company told him the cost of the CPAP was $2,400. So Levy looked online and discovered the machine actually cost about $500.

@puzzlepiece87 wow

> Levy said he called At Home Medical to ask if he could avoid the rental fee and pay $500 up front for the machine, and a company representative said no.
> For instance, Neufeld owed $25.68 for a disposable filter under his Cigna plan, while the supplier was paid $7.50. He owed $147.78 for a face mask through his Cigna plan while the supplier was paid $95.
> His doctor prescribed a new mask and airflow setting for his machine. The medical supply company sent him a modem, giving them the ability to change the setting. When the mask didn't arrive, Umansky called the company. Surprise: a service representative told him his insurance might not pay for the mask. “On Tuesday, you only used the mask for 3.5 hours and on Monday, you only used it for 3 hours.” “You are using this thing to track my sleep and deny me what my doctor says I need?”

but you see, under single payer or a nationalized system, you'll have someone between you and your doctor
which does not happen under a private insurance scheme

@Unionhawk hue

look at me im the wall street journal taking a look at the nhs under austerity and constructing numbers to my liking to make it look like there's some magic months wait time for truly emergency care

that is just dickish
