Trump repeats his lie that Obama was "going to war" with North Korea. Stahl asks, "We were going to war?" Trump says, "I think it was going to end up in war." He then complains that the media didn't inform people of his fake information: "You don't hear that."

@GodEmperorDune who's fake information is he complaining about there? Obama's or his own?

2:03 AM
@Memor-X his own

He's complaining that the media didn't tell everyone we were going to go to war with North Korea, which as far as anyone else is aware we weren't, so like, yeah
Critics say Kushner has been dangerously naive to trust Prince Mohammed and has been easily manipulated by Saudis. But Kushner’s defenders say he’s unafraid to privately chide MBS and that their relationship pays dividends for America. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/two-princes-kushner-now-faces-a-reckoning-for-trumps-bet-on-the-saudi-heir/2018/10/14/6eaeaafc-ce46-11e8-a3e6-44daa3d35ede_story.html
I mean I'm sure it pays dividends for someone

@TimStone i recall reading an article about the idea of taking Trump down for treason through the russain probe and i read that it can only be done if you are in war time with that country and read that technically the war with North Korea never ended?

@TimStone and according to fox news, trump is america, so...

2:19 AM
I was thinking Kushner himself in this case

not sure of the timeframe but if Trump signed this after Kanye's visit, would be a funny coincidence that he did his kiss assing just before

2:48 AM
That's partly why he was there
(for the signing)

3:15 AM
Trump says GOP wouldn't have "won" on Kavanaugh without his speech mocking Christine Blasey Ford http://hill.cm/5WFQCK5
@Ash you took the words out of my mouth

user15026
Great minds think alike :P

in not crap news
The US embassy in Australia sent out this cat photo instead of a meeting invite http://bit.ly/2QLsrR0
I'd vote to keep that as the standard meeting invite

user15026
@Memor-X That is magical

user15026
That would get me to come to meetings

3:46 AM
It's not getting nearly enough coverage, but Rep.Duncan Hunter (the indicted California congressman) is running one of the most openly anti-Muslim campaigns we've ever seen, with shameful smears of his opponent. https://www.npr.org/2018/10/12/656879294/gop-rep-duncan-hunter-under-indictment-launches-false-attacks-on-opponent

Yeah, that's…wow

4:03 AM
Apparently there is still ongoing infiltration operations at metro DC DSA
And by that I mean apparently some dude walked in to the open to the public convention and took pictures of the all gender bathroom signs and sat through five hours of absolutely excruciating Roberts rules work

lol I saw

Congrats dude you obtained public documents and all you had to do was waste an entire Sunday

4:36 AM
@TimStone lol, poor Melania
Trump: Putin "probably" involved in assassinations and poisoning http://hill.cm/8sx3fqd
fake response:
> he probably did poison the Skripals, but he also probably didn't. there's other people who could have poisoned them, like china or the democrats

because you know, every time he said someone he like probably did something bad he also then points out a bunch of other people who probably did it too

(not new-news in any sense, but)
> When someone shouted, “Fake!” Roosevelt stepped forward to show the crowd his shirt and the bullet holes in the manuscript
The first* fake news asshole (*okay probably not, but lmfao)
"I've just been shot" "Pssh no you haven't" "…My dude, look"
@Unionhawk Next he'll realised he learned something and then claim it was a brainwashing exercise

@Unionhawk i take pictures of all gender bathroom signs because i think they are great
> Roosevelt warned that if government neglected the well-being of all its citizens, violence of the sort that had just befallen him would become commonplace. “The poor man as such will be swayed by his sense of injury against the men who try to hold what they have improperly won” and “the most awful passions will be let loose.”

4:51 AM
It's important that absolutely no aspect of history be considered for improving the present
The Chinese ambassador to the United States said diplomats are confused over who is the "final decision maker" in the Trump administration https://cnn.it/2CKxEp8
Oh my goodness, satan showing up on the lord's day smh
Are you a person of color who has been criticized by others in your community for being a conservative or supporting Donald Trump? We want to hear from you. https://nyti.ms/2yCb8KW

@TimStone lolwtf
how many of these trump people do we need to hear from?

Well having profiled every white conservative in the country apparently they had to mix things up a bit

@GodEmperorDune all of them?

I can certainly see people not wanting to side with Democrats but I feel like if you're jumping on board the Trump Train at this point as a PoC it's because you feel like you got yours? So not sure how much benefit there is to hearing about that perspective!
(like there wasn't in hearing about the white folk who voted for Trump who don't care about anything he's done because they weren't paying attention to begin with)
Erdogan wants to give Saudis an exit out of #Khashoggi case, hoping the Saudi king/crown prince will blame "rogue elements" for the alleged murder, then throwing someone important under the bus. This would let Erdogan walk away looking good & prevent rupture in Turkey-Saudi ties https://twitter.com/anadoluagency/status/1051680321975083008

@TimStone how is this not prevented by conflict of interest rules?

I think the rules just say "Win win win no matter what"
> As the company was bleeding cash and selling off assets in recent years, federal regulators required Mr. Lampert to inject cash into the pension plan.
Heh, bet he was pissed about that though
"But I don't wannnnna"
stares straight into the camera
> The company’s board came to be dominated by other wealthy investors, including Steven Mnuchin, the current Treasury secretary who had been Mr. Lampert’s roommate at Yale

A vending machine at Auckland International Airport is being mocked after Māori locals called out an unfortunate translation http://bit.ly/2QSnjL6

5:42 AM
lol, it's amazing how much stuff could be caught if anyone bothered to have someone check but they're just like "Naaah ship it"

7 hours later…
12:46 PM
Kellyanne Conway responds to Warren's DNA test: "I haven't looked at the test. I know that everybody likes to pick their junk science or sound science depending on the conclusion it seems some days. But I haven't looked at the DNA test and it really doesn't interest me..."
Uhhh so I take it today is already bad
But hey, on the plus side, the Saudis say they definitely didn't do exactly what they obviously did
Just spoke to the King of Saudi Arabia who denies any knowledge of whatever may have happened “to our Saudi Arabian citizen.” He said that they are working closely with Turkey to find answer. I am immediately sending our Secretary of State to meet with King!
"Cleaners were seen" going into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul today, shortly before a team of Turkish investigators was due to enter. https://au.news.yahoo.com/turkey-search-saudi-consulate-erdogan-king-talk-123357933--spt.html

@TimStone Cleaner: just here to clean some blood by orders of the king. totally unrelated to the missing journalist

"I always carry five industrial sized containers of bleach with me, for those hard to get stains"

@TimStone It doesn't matter anyway
We'll go through this dance for a bit, but then everyone is going to go back to "oh MBS is such a cool guy"
the only reason this is a story at all is because the saudis decided it was a good idea to kill the one kind of person their top defenders actually care about, a journalist
in a country that's more of a surveillance state than the united states
which, you know, as it turns out it was I guess because everyone is just going to accept the shaggy defense here

1:02 PM
Now's a good time to re-remember that Saudi Arabia wants to dig a huge trench on its border with Qatar and fill it with nuclear waste, perhaps the single most comic-super-villianesque act of state ever
@TimStone In light of having apparently taken a DNA test, Warren is now reminding Trump he promised to donate $1 million to charity if she did and it showed probable Native American ancestry so I guess this will somehow end up being this week's news cycle I'm sorry everyone I don't make the news I just share it

@TimStone i seem to recall that happening on Captain Planet and it was out in a desert

@TimStone Oh that must mean everything is totally fine
That said I am happy Trump has said killing a journalist is bad, because I was really afraid he was going to praise it with some comment about "Fake Liberal Media"
like not so directly, but well, he's made it pretty damn clear what he thinks of reporters...

@TimStone We've actually already advanced to the moving of the goal posts part of the cycle, in which the assumed percentage of ancestry is "insufficient" (which like, this is all stupid, stop trivializing native folk, but still)

attempting to appease the phrenology right to own the libs
dumb

Yeah it's very bad and she definitely should not have done this
There is literally no upside
Trump won't pay the $1 million, he can't be owned unless you make rich people not want to pay any attention to him, which can't happen while he's president
It is all very bad and pointless

1:21 PM
elizabeth warren: i have released a dna test proving my native american heritage guy who believes in pizzagate: ah sorry, we were wrong

Basically
Trump is talking to reporters on the WH lawn right now and saying repeatedly that the Saudi's are denying killing Khashoggi. He also suggests it could have been "rogue killers" per pooler.
chef's kiss

It works every time

Someone passed along the new narrative but I assume he didn't fully understand and now thinks completely random people entered the consulate to kill Khashoggi

1:59 PM
Saudi Arabia aside, I am repressing some anger towards my fellow Asian-Americans for allowing themselves to be so easily turned against other minorities by this Harvard admissions case.
They're under this some weird delusion that getting rid of affirmative action will mean more Asian-Americans getting into prestigious colleges because we're collectively better students.
No, the only thing that getting rid of affirmative action will do is that all minority admissions will go down and admissions for white applicants will go up.
I'm trying to find information on the organization leading this case. I know the founder/leader is Edward Blum and I would also hazard a guess that there's not very good minority representation on the board of Students for Fair Admissions.

2:15 PM
It's just him
He co-opted some Asian-American students to push through his anti-affirmative action agenda
It's like his whole gig

Yeah, I'm annoyed at how easily it seems that Asian-Americans will turn on their fellow minorities.
Especially if they actually think about it, it won't really help them/us.

user15026
@Yuuki yeaaaaah

2:49 PM
Hunt down any publication of theirs and add quotes around "Fair"

you see, "equity" is just code for "racism against white people", which is a real thing that can happen

@TimStone You'd think Asians would recognize when white people are taking advantage of us for their own gain.

tbf turning folks is a common tool of white power structures and I'm sure he sold the bit convincingly
It's not good, but if you're made to believe you're being wronged it can be hard to look past that

3:53 PM
These E-Trade ads are so weird.
"You like <co-worker>, but you'd like <co-worker> more if you made more money than them."
excuse me wtf?

They always start with good anti-capitalist analysis like "the harder you work, the better vacation, YOUR BOSS, will go on" but then propose their solution of "just invest your extra money"
it's a strange dynamic
"don't get mad" but y not tho

@Unionhawk I mean, don't get mad at your co-worker, yeah.

4:10 PM
I can't even look at it

@Memor-X No no, you have a fundamental misunderstanding so your confusion is natural, his supporters are only horrified that the federal government is selling their personal information if the libs do it

@fredley lmfao, I saw this on Twitter but I didn't understand where it came from
Just amazing

It does seem like the artist has done this for at least one previous president.
But did Obama have his displayed in the White House?

@GodEmperorDune That robot is nearly ready to take his revenge on the guy who pushed him down and knocked the boxes out of his hands.

I'd suspect not, but. I mean, and honestly I suppose we really shouldn't make fun of some random artist for doing their thing, it's not even specifically Trump worship or anything
I think Teddy would suplex him into the table though, just for fun

4:21 PM
@TimStone The picture is the picture, I don't think it's an objectively great picture, but meh. The decision to hang it though...

Indeed

@TimStone Booooo try harder. Not even mentioning GDP growth and unemployment rate? I'm not saying those are end all be all measures, but CFPB, seriously? Like any average citizen even knows wtf that is xD

UVA claims to have waived all outstanding medical bills related to the events of august 11 and 12 2017
which if true would be great news for DSA national's absolute failure to distribute funds

4:42 PM
@TimStone Have been in disbelief since learning about this in high school that he didn't go on to win that race

The best person I could imagine to respond to Trump's ridiculous Medicare for All op-ed is @AbdulElSayed, so I'm very pleased to publish this article from him and Micah Johnson about why M4A is necessary and the criticisms of it all fail. https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/10/caring-for-all

1 hour later…
6:06 PM
@TimStone i mean it conflates the "lincoln was a republican" meme
and expands it to many other republicans who would probably start a fight with trump
nixon would be right at home though
i was mildly surprised that darrell issa was involved, it struck me as more of a nunes move

more like darrell isn'ta

n-hue-nes
NEW: The Trump admin has just appointed Mary Mayhew as the new head of Medicaid. She was previously the top health official for Maine Gov. Paul LePage, who refused to implement the Medicaid expansion voters approved a year ago.

> refused to implement
> voters approved
sick representation

it happens all over
DC council just repealed initiative 77

6:21 PM
paul lepage is a piece of work though

good democracy
just vote
and things will be good
:)

I remember in school being taught that democracy is the ultimate form of government and anything other than that is inferior in some way.
I may have been deceived.

yeah ultimate as in it has never been realized
so as in last
idk

Well, when your democracy isn't being democratic...

that sounded 20% smarter in my head

6:23 PM
Or your republic isn't being republican.

I don't really have a proposal for something that would be better.

@InvaderSkoodge we are all waiting for democracy to assume its ultimate form

Any government could probably be corrupted.

i mean how do you design a voluntary system that doesn't assume all the participants will be working in good faith?

that famous thing that democracies do, repeal direct referendums by representative vote, and have two legislative bodies that somehow both manage to fail to be represented in any real proportional manner to the number of votes recieved

6:27 PM
Democracy is the worst form of government. Except for all the others that have been tried

@SaintWacko I dunno, complete anarchy due to lack of humans seems to work pretty well.
Perhaps better than democracy.

@Yuuki Well, yes
Really, involving human greed in any form of government is what breaks it

6:45 PM
ummmmm why is the king of sparta giving a press briefing at the Defense dept instead of an actual public official?

... Gerard Butler?

@Yuuki yes

@GodEmperorDune Whuh?

Gerard Butler briefs Pentagon press on his new movie “Hunter Killer” and his experience filming aboard a U.S. Navy attack submarine

The previews for that movie, lol

6:50 PM
When your government is involved with a movie's press junket tour.
:/

the pentagon is involved with every film that depicts the military lol

when your movie is barely concealed military recruitment propaganda

@Unionhawk Eh, there's a difference between the Army making sure all of Michael Bay's movies make the armed forces look good and literally doing movie press releases from the Pentagon.

I mean this movie is basically like a plot from C&C Red Alert or something

@TimStone damn, i gotta watch it now

also my man lookin like chris hardwick
tbh

The Russian Defense Minister kidnaps the Russia President

@TimStone this can't be c&C Red Alert without stalin and time machines, tho

Gerard Butler already has his facial hair back so I assume he has one
(they obviously stopped filming a long time ago I know don't @ me)
Also random Common, lol

wtf is this, a SAM site that fires torpedos that arc into the water? a SAMAW site?

6:56 PM
See I told you it's Red Alert, everything is Extremely Extra

yeah this movie is going to be terrible but i will probably watch it on netflix eventually anyway

Not sure I'm following. So they send in some kind of spec ops team to save the Russian President and the submarine's supposed to provide some kind of support?

@Yuuki i think the submarine is part of the spec ops team

The submarine is delivering the team, covertly by traveling under the polar ice
As far as I can gather
I think perhaps the actual ops part comes a bit after the sub is already deployed, idk
EXPLOSIONS

and at some point they were like "underwater fights are boring, what if we made it so that the underwater fights had both aerial and on land explosions too?"
not sure if they are trying to do a political message of "russian president is actually good" intentionally or just accidentally
poor old vlad getting pushed around by "rogue elements"

7:01 PM
Hmm, filming started in July 2016
Also it's based on a novel!
> “The plot unfolds like a summer blockbuster.”—Publishers Weekly
Ah, well

@GodEmperorDune Same

lmao: :"In The Movie of Tom Clancy's The Sum of All Fears: When the time came to film the nuclear detonation scene, in which the Presidential motorcade is severely damaged by the blast, the director used real military personnel that were trained specifically for that situation. All he had to do was point to the overturned limo and tell them "The President is in that car!""
deviating, but, lmao at that example from tvtropes/Backed by the Pentagon

Wait, we have people who are trained to rescue the president from an overturned limo following a nuclear explosion which rolls it off the road?

I mean I assume it's not quite that extremely specific
or hope anyway

@TimStone Okay, I'll watch it

7:13 PM
That scene's such a stark reminder that You're Not Important, heh. I know they couldn't evacuate the stadium in any meaningful way but they just rush him out and everyone's sitting around like 🤷 and then the nuke goes off

Although having that mini-sub mounted on top of the submarine would make it so much louder
@TimStone I love that book. Never seen the movie, though
That and Without Remorse are my two favorite Clancy books

@TimStone there are binders full of scenarios for such things

It seems like it'd be easier to just not allow the nuke-in-vending machine to enter the country

@TimStone but if we open our borders to bales of weed, how can we stop the nukes contained therein?

oh shit the second issue of Build just got published
hell yeahhhhhhhh
Cincinnati is in it woo

8:10 PM
Saudi Arabia just bombed *another* bus full of civilians, killing at least 17. https://www.dw.com/en/new-saudi-airstrike-hits-bus-carrying-civilians-in-yemen/a-45877705

@Unionhawk goddammit

Did the joke first then thought about it. Sorry.

1 hour later…
9:24 PM
@TimStone if you thought this wouldn't get weirder, you were wrong
TRUMP says he will only pay 1 million dollars to charity for Warren if he can test her personally: "I will only do it if I can test her personally. That will not be something that I enjoy doing"

@GodEmperorDune I don't even want to imagine what he means by testing her personally.

@GodEmperorDune ???

@Yuuki the way this timeline is going, he'll probably tell us what that means, and we'll regret it
the true answer is probably that Trump doesn't think, and that his words have no meaning

@TimStone in birth certificate lingo, now that the regular birth certificate has been produced, only the long form birth certificate will suffice
which is why it was extremely dumb for warren to even do the blood test in the first place

It's like he moved the goalposts onto the baseball diamond
I don't even know what game we're playing anymore

9:37 PM
(eugenics and definitions of native membership aside, which make it even dumber)

@TimStone Neither do the Democrats but they're just so excited be here!

@TimStone the game of get the clusterfuck in the middle east out of the headlines

Democrats are like that one person on the debate team who spends all of their time crafting their perfect rebuttal to this one specific point.
And then the other team just goes "well that means you support eating children".

@Yuuki yep

Or something equally absurd.

9:56 PM
Basically, if you use a fallacy, then your argument does not hold together, logically. This doesn't automatically mean that your conclusion is wrong, or that anyone who points out the fallacy is right about their own claim.

@murgatroid99 yes, my point was that when confronted with the fallacy, they claim that the fallacy is wrong

I mean, the fallacy fallacy is also a real thing. Just because your opponent hasn't proven their point well, it doesn't make them wrong

ah, gotcha

Also, the "fallacy man" in that comic fails to recognize relevant subtleties in the fallacies he references, along with the obvious failure to recognize social context

I'm not sure that's actually an example of appeal to authority fallacy anyway

10:01 PM
Yeah, I was going to say that. Peyton Manning is probably a valid authority for judging football skill, so he is a valid authority to reference like that.

@GodEmperorDune he does know that grabbing her by the ______ is not a test of any kind?

@Memor-X :/ sadly relevant to historically accurate pocahontas

@GodEmperorDune Nobody tell Trump about historically accurate Pocahontas.

The only one that the character uses completely correctly is the naturalistic fallacy. But he falls victim to the fallacy fallacy in doing so. It's true that carrots are better for you than candy, but it's not because they're natural.

user15026
@GodEmperorDune what does he think that entails?

user15026
10:05 PM
(I don't think I want to know, actually)

@Ash the smart answer would be for him to say that he would need to become a phlebotomist to do it, and he doesn't have the time or energy for that, therefore he never will have to donate the money

user15026
Well yes but I hardly think that is his actual thought.

@Ash yep that is too zany of a plan
BREAKING: Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen dies at 65 https://thebea.st/2yFtxGt
bah that was a short article
was this the developers developers developers guy?

That's Steve Balmer

10:19 PM
Paul Allen actually did a lot of pretty cool things, I didn't know his cancer had come back

it seems to have taken the obit writers by surprise; they don't have anything prepped
all the stories are like the above
placeholders with what he died from and when and not much else

.@CherokeeNation official statement on @elizabethforma “Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong...Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."
god
just
why would you think this was a good idea
the right does not operate in good faith

i dunno how she thought this would benefit her

@Unionhawk No, but the right shovels truckfuls of money their way to get them to shut up and stay out of the way.

just ignore it and do the good work you are already doing on financial regulations and such

10:53 PM
PM regrets Coalition senators voted for Pauline Hanson’s ‘it’s okay to be white’ motion #auspol http://bit.ly/2QVs9Y3
i totally forgot this was a thing

@Memor-X wtf how did this get to a floor vote
do they just allow anyone to propose things and assume MPs will not be so racist?
BREAKING: Federal judge dismisses Stormy Daniels’ defamation lawsuit against President Trump - @NBCPolitics
so avenatti can go away now, right?
ugh he is appealing it, of course

@GodEmperorDune i honestly have no idea, might just be that the senate current is a breeding ground for this shit
> "I'm starting to think Senator Hanson and her former colleague Senator Anning are now locked in a race to see who can be the biggest, the loudest racist bigot," Senator Hinch said.
> Fraser Anning was roundly criticised in August for calling for a ban on Muslim migration and a 'final solution' to Australia's immigration.
context - final solution was a term used by the Nazi's for dealing with the jews

@Memor-X wow that is a mess

@GodEmperorDune no, not so long as there are women who have cases which would embarrass trump
remember that he also is representing one of Kavanaugh's accusers
speraking of which
Witches planning to publicly hex Kavanaugh http://hill.cm/jsndy56

11:12 PM
@Memor-X lol nice
they are doing a fundraiser as part of this
good work all round

@GodEmperorDune especially where they're sending the money too
> Half of the proceeds raised from the $10 tickets will be donated, split between Planned Parenthood and the Ali Forney Center, an LGBT community center.
Almost all of the unique comments to FCC opposed net neutrality repeal: study http://hill.cm/6ScnFj0
Ajit Pai: what opposing comments? everyone is happy for us cutting up the internet and selling it back in optional packages

@Memor-X sips from giant mug

11:35 PM
@GodEmperorDune He has to, it's anti-SLAPP
But also he's obnoxious
Coverage by @motherboard https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/mbdwb3/the-donald-daters-trump-dating-app-exposed-a-load-of-its-users-data
lol, you will be shocked to learn the Fox-advertised "Make America Date Again" app is Quite Bad!

> Motherboard cannot rule out that this is a not-so-elaborate scheme to own Republicans.

@TimStone I mean is it even a SLAPP when the defendant is the actual president though

Apparently, the ruling permits attorney fees

@Unionhawk what did the five lawsuits say to the face? SLAPP
