Hi there and welcome to IPS. I don't think this question is a good fit for this stack, because it's not about behaviours used to interact well with others. It's more a matter of intrapersonal problem. We can't tell you how you can control your feelings or inner issues. Please check out our meta site et read How to Ask. — OldPadawan 52 secs ago

Hi Gabriel. Can you clarify some points please? 1. who are these people (friends, colleagues...)? 2. Is this happening in a professional or personal setting? 3. what culture/country? 1/2 — OldPadawan 36 secs ago

I took a look at the links and those were the issues trying what was suggested: 1: They speak loud enough to be painful but doctors haven't diagnosed me with hyperacusis. In fact they even laugh when I mention that. 2: I already tried to expose my issue as I already mentioned ("I need to do..."). People usually ignore. 3: Already tried to expose the issue during a non-rush time and people usually brush it off or say that I'm being obnoxious. 4: I had this issue in the workplace as well and the coworker ignored me and the manager told me to stop complaining. — Gabriel Diego 23 secs ago

And the afore mentioned questions: 1. Those people are of several types of relationship. Friends, coworkers, classmates, covolunteers, and relatives. 2. In several settings, professional, semi-professional and personal ones. 3. I live in the United States, but this has happened with me also in Brazil and France. I have a very diverse network and I did noticed that this behavior is more common in people with certain backgrounds than others, however, I prefer to not pigeon-hole people based of their backgrounds as that would be discriminatory. — Gabriel Diego 2 mins ago

Actually, for the link 1, laughably (except for me), I do have difficulties to find help about my pain to loud noises and even the people in the SE.MedicalSciences deleted my question on how to communicate that properly to a doctor and avoid the weird faces. People tend to judge the noise level as not painful and say that I'm wrong to say it is painful and distracting. — Gabriel Diego 28 secs ago

Hmm. Dealing with almost everyone in almost every setting is a bit too broad for this site, sadly. Asking for a bit more silence from a stranger in a library is different from asking this of a group of coworkers in an office space, is different from asking this from family at a birthday party, for example. So I'm afraid we can not really help you with the Interpersonal Skills to succeed in every situation, we'd have to write an entire book to cover those. — Tinkeringbell ♦ 2 mins ago

It is almost always I person that I know. I never has this problem with strangers. In fact, it is very uncommon this to happen with strangers, so I guess that the image people have with me may be low. — Gabriel Diego 14 secs ago

It is not really broad, it is very narrow: I need some silence to do a task requiring so. People who can see me doing it make some noise making my task difficult or impossible. I ask the person to help me to do what I'm doing by keeping the noise level low. People get angry or ignore me. I don't see this happening to others that often, in fact never saw that happening to other people. — Gabriel Diego 19 secs ago

@JanNiklasFingerle It might be a bit unusual, but even if the claim is factually "wrong" such as "Earth is flat" I see no value in pointing out how my view's better even though most people would consider mine most accurate. The story of who's right and wrong is the same as the story of who's the villain in the war: winners write history in all cases, and so the reason I consider myself right is simply that I consider my chances to be convinced "Earth is flat" to be very slim. — Arthur Hv 1 min ago

Yeah, you're saying it's narrow because you're asking about one thing, and this site asks you to make your questions specific enough to be answered, which includes narrowing down the cultural context and who is involved. If you never see it happening to other people, that's probably a good sign you're doing something wrong, but unless you make your question specific enough to be answered, we can't help you pinpoint what that is and where you could improve yourself: We'd be throwing mud at the wall hoping some of it sticks. — Tinkeringbell ♦ 22 secs ago

Is your teacher suggesting things that actively promote, defend or downplay systemic racism? If the situation is that extreme it might make more sense to get another authority figure involved. — Peter 2 mins ago

@ArthurHv The flat earth example might seem harmless (even though I would argue that it undermines a fact based world view, which is the basis of many evils), but there are some "opinions" that can be linked directly to the mistreatment of other humans. Most people will not accept those as equal in principle to their own opinion, and for good reason. — Jan Niklas Fingerle 2 mins ago

@baldPrussion Correct: If you argue from a point of human rights and the other side only sees it in a framework of a given, different, value system, the discussion of the issue will be futile. But: You might take a step back and try to discuss the value of human rights. In any way: It's a good thing not to take an overly relativist approach in those cases. — Jan Niklas Fingerle 3 mins ago

@Peter what my teacher did was assume that the reason that more African-Americans were in jail was because of a flaw in the justice system, not because of something else. He then voiced this assumption to the whole class. What he did was chalk up the entire problem to systemic racism, instead of knowing that there could be other reasons African Americans would be in jail. — Ekadh Singh 1 min ago

I would recommend maybe saying “can you please be quiet, whenever it’s too loud it hurts my ears a lot.” In an informal setting (United States), because otherwise people might think you’re just being obnoxious. (At least I know I would think that if you don’t say it’s hurting you) — Ekadh Singh 1 min ago

@Tinkeringbell: I think this is one case where the question is on-topic ("how to can I communicate to my partner that I want more X" is clearly an interpersonal question with a very specific rule). I imagine the down/close votes are due to the controversial topic (phrased somewhat poorly in addition). That doesn't sit right with me, it would be better to e.g. state that sexual questions are off-topic in the rules and burninate the sex tag. — Peter 6 secs ago
