Yeah, I have to agree there's nothing about hiding your beliefs in simply not saying "I'm praying for you". If the urge to say that is so overwhelming, one might ask if that need isn't the problem. That's where focusing on the other person can be helpful. One could argue that truly focusing on the other person's needs can include letting go of your own needs, including the need to say "I'm going to do _____ ". — Mike M 1 min ago

Might be worth also considering placebo effects of given statements. The power of suggestion itself has been known to both reduce pain (placebo) or induce pain (nocebo), besides other effects. — SSight3 1 min ago

It seems that it's best not to tell them because while randomized trials on the efficacy of intercessory prayer generally produce a neutral result, there is some evidence to suggest that where the subject has been informed of the intercession, the outcome has been less positive. — Strawberry 12 secs ago

@EmC: I find this a little confusing now. Cause OP now reads like "I told him yesterday about it and it is just one day, how can I tell him about it?" I am not sure if this suites the purpose, as my immediate question was "Why does OP ask how to do something they just already did?" Until I read your comment announcing the edit. But lets wait what OP says about it for now I'd say :) — dhein 1 min ago

Most people I know brushes their teeth 3 times a day, once per meal, or sometimes more. Showering two times a day when you go to the gym is pretty standard too. I don't think is accurate to say "most people". I think it would be more appropriate to say, most people you know. Also I don't think she is on an extreme hygine level either, because as I said everyone I know does what she does. And dentists recommend what she is doing. Also depending on the weather, but showering every two days can be quite problematic. So I don't think she is unrealistic. I do agree they have different standards. — Mykazuki 7 secs ago

She doesn't expect that from her bf, she wants him to brush his teeth every day and shower when he comes home all dirty and full of mud. If she works out 2 times a day you coul wind up showering 3 times a day. It is Interesting you saw articles that talk about brushing 2 times. I always heard dentist recommended once in the morning, and then after every meal. So depending how you do it, it can be from 3 to 5 or 6 (depending how many times you eat and all). However I wouldn't think 2 times a day is bad. Once every 2 days is bad though. — Mykazuki 1 min ago

'By doing it you're in a stronger position to talk to your boss about not doing it in future' I disagree with this last statement. Usually when you do something it will be easier to say to the other party: "Hey, i don't see the problem, you did it before." — Ivana 2 mins ago

@EmC: I would love to, but as mentioned above, I am not sure what OP might have meant here. So I also can't really suggest what else might have been meant. I would just be guessing aswell. I'd say rather for now I am gonna VTC this till OP was able to clarify their intend. — dhein 1 min ago

@Belle That's what I've been saying for $(AGE_OF_BOT)!
@luchonacho - your experience is highly biased and does not agree what the rest of us observe. When people start talking about prayers, I can almost 100% tell they are not gonna move a muscle to help beyond that. — Davor 2 mins ago

I was always terrified of people coming up to me an offering to help - even in good faith! It's just scary to have to respond [..] even if you know you're doing nothing wrong. Most of the time, after someone asked, I would just leave, because it made me too nervous. I have the same reactions regardless of what I'm buying. Books, headphones, clothes... — Džuris 1 min ago
