Yo Nate, for reference, I just wanted to lighten up the mood a little bit

Hey man.

Just wanted to make sure that the 5 minutes is now a vector space comment isn't seen as a rip of some sort, given the current atmosphere in the chat

Lmfao, don't worry about it man!
I think I'm being a little bit of a downer, I need to lighten up a bit.

I mean I wasn't too happy about Duck's comments either, though I will say it'll contribute to your happiness to not take what happens on chat too seriously, even if justified

Yeah, you're right. It really didn't bug me, not sure why I reacted that way.

12:40 AM
shrugs in $La_TeX$

23 hours later…
11:34 PM
@Dodsy what's wrong?

Hey what's up.

You said I made you depressed, is there anything I can do to change this?

Ah, I was just joking you don't make me depressed.
I am depressed though...

Oh kek

I don't think there is anything you can do.

11:37 PM
Well, in that case is there something I can help with in general?

I am just crazy stressed
So I have an advanced functions test (precalc) on monday
and then I have to write tests for the rest of the month into july
I might not even be accepted to UWO
and my girlfriend seems unwilling to accept that
keeps calling me negative.
But I just tell her "I might not get accepted."
and then if I do get accepted, I need to maintain a certain average AND finish on a certain date.

The best advice I could give you is to not worry too much about this.
To clarify
I mean that failure is just a thing which happens to people, you shouldn't feel bad about yourself if it does happen, nor should you feel like you're doomed
Every person out there who is successful racked up a ton of failures

I've racked up too many already.
But you're right.
Next year might be better for me in the long run. I can work for a year and get things togeter.

I wouldn't jump to say too many, chances are it's not terribly different from anyone else
Remember that no one writes failures on a resume except for this one Princeton professor who's trying to make the same point that I am

haha.

11:41 PM
So you'll hear all about successful people and look upon yourself by contrast, but remember that the grass is always greener on the other side
This doesn't mean that I don't think you should work as hard as you can and try to succeed

Right. I will.

Shoot for the gold, push hard, and keep hope that you'll be studying at UWO next year
But remember that things don't always work out and we ought not keep beating ourselves up over it. These things happen, take what you learned from one failure and move on to the next, repeat until success

Honestly, in comparison to how I used to be (carefree, self-destructive, fun) I am completely changed.
I used to be the guy who asked you for pencils and paper during class.
And then drew all class.
However, I think that I would be good taking mathematics as a major.
Another problem is that a lot of schools will start assessing me as a mature student
I had to sort of fight with UWO to be considered otherwise.

In terms of finances and such?

Since I failed college, if I am considered as a mature student, I will never be accepted.
In terms of acceptance.

11:45 PM
Oh, I see

yeah...
it's kind of tough.

I can tell, you seem to be going through a lot. Just remember that you still have the tools to make things work out in the end

Right.
Well, I was rejected from Queens
and I was rejected with a higher average than others who were accepted.

The end might not be next year, might not be until after some deep sorrow, but it can work out

and this might happen again with UWO

11:47 PM
Well, remember that they fucked you up

right.

Hopefully UWO is more careful

I just want to be in school studying math.

When are you gonna know?

well, I talked to them and they said that by the time they review my application, the program might be full
probably by wednesday the 21'st.

11:49 PM
Is there anything you can do between now and then that will increase your chances along those lines?

No.

So then don't think about it until then

And there are a lot of things that could happen
fist they could say, you're accepted without any conditions
second, they could say you're accepted but you have to maintain a 83% average.
now the first has no further conditions.
the second could mean that I get an 89% average in both calc and functions and then don't need to do chem
but, I won't find out my functions mark until after I do chem

This may sound like a truism, as is likely the case with many things I've been saying, but the way I see it, once the future is out of your hands, cease concerning yourself with it until it sorts itself out and happens

so then I still need to write a chem exam
right. I'll try to do that

11:51 PM
It's draining your energy to think about UWO, for now, you can prepare for the future by working hard on your exams

I just have a lot of things to do between now and august first
okay :)
thanks dami.

No problem, I'll be there for you if you'd like, just let me know

I'd like that dami.

I guess the last thing I want to say is to remember in addition to all this that things may look worse than they are

Well, I've called them
and they've expressed that they will extend deadlines if needed
so if they say that I need all of my courses done by august first, they could extend that.

11:54 PM
And I mean this specifically in the sense of, not just that you may despair and it works out later, but sometimes something happens, it doesn't sound like it's going well, but then it just does

Okay Dami.

When I was applying to colleges, I got rejected by a bunch and felt very bad about it. But I can say with reasonable confidence now that I'm in better shape here than any of them

Yeah, how much did those applications cost you?

Sorry about this very long rant, but I guess I've also spent some time feeling the whole, I'm bad at this and nothing is gonna work out stuff. I don't wanna say precisely that I've been where you are, since I don't know the depth of how hard this is, but at least being within some large $\epsilon$ neighborhood of it, it should come out okay
Each application was about $75, I think

I've spent about $1500 applying
to 3 schools.
Hey dami
what you've said, has been more than adequate.
I am sorry if I've caused concern

11:58 PM
Wow, those application fees are kinda high

oh yeah
well I'm also sending transcripts, which cost me a lot of money.
I think that you've made me feel much better
and I'm not just trying to sound nice

Ah, I see. I did everything on the common app for American schools, so sending stuff wasn't a problem. I did have to take the SAT tests, and they did cost some money
