Hey everyone :) A client came with me with a strange phenomenon .. They claim that featured images regularly get removed from a CPT. I can confirm that there are posts of that type without a featured image. - But how do I even start to debug this further?
I can't reproduce the problem as the client doesn't know, when or how this happened.
I can log changes to featured images of that CPT, but will that really give me any insights? I'd have to create a real elaborate logging to know why it happened in these cases (instead of just checking postmeta changes and log whenever one about the featur

maybe the assigned featured images are being used elsewhere and being deleted for other reasons, afterall an attachment can only be attached to one thing, but it can still get used in lots of other places
and we don't know if the attachment is being removed, or if the featured image is being removed, they're not the same
the only way to know if it will give you insight is to do it
simply put you don't have enough information to solve or direct debugging
so find out as much as you can
if a route of investigation turns up nothing, that's eliminated a number of causes and gives you more information to narrow down what's happening
so look for clues

Good points, Tom, thanks

Around the globe, we look forward to celebrating traditions that are unique to us, our families, and our communities. The season gives us a chance to reflect, makes us smile, and helps bring us all together.

This year is a special one for the Winter Bash tradition. A hectic end of the year (that included a company-wide Meetup and a ramped-up focus on delivering improvements across other parts of our Q&A experience) means this year’s Winter Bash theme is the same as last year’s. But don’t despair, last year’s theme was awesome! …

Q: Misleading migration reason in automated text box

fuxiaWhenever we migrate a question to Stack Overflow now, the justification text is misleading the person who asked the question (and probably everyone else): This question was migrated to Stack Overflow because it can be answered by professional and enthusiast programmers. This is just wrong...
